A Broken Chain

I walked to Veronica's room nervously. Butterflies were in my stomach. I had promised today to Liam that I would quit my job. I opened her glass doors when she looked up from her work and smiled.
"Stevie! How are you?" She smiled. I gave her a nervous grin.
"Uh, good."
"What do you need?"
"Well what-"
"Oh I forgot! Saturday is my birthday and I am having a little party! You should come!"
"Veronica I can't-"
"It will be amazing! The whole staff is coming!"
"Veronica that's nice. But I uh-"
"Oh, please tell me you will come!"
"Veronica, please-"
"Great! Now, I need to work so, you are excused." She waved me out. I left and walked back to my office.
(AT HOME THAT NIGHT)
I sighed and turned on my tv. Liam was upstairs with Ethan so I had time off. I was supposed to quit my job. But I didn't. And it's not like I didn't try to. I just...couldnt.
