THE MURDERER'S LETTER

Chapter 1

We stumbled out of the smoky restaurant, the darkness of the evening clouding my vision even more than the smoke had. My arm was wrapped around his ribcage and his arm was wrapped around my shoulder.

I tripped on a small hole in the pavement, “Ow! Ow!” I yelped.

“Oh Charlotte you’re the biggest klutz I know.” He laughed.

“’Charlotte? Harry, I told you never to call me that.” I laughed as we began to walk again.

“Sorry. Charlie.” He emphasized my name and I felt his ribcage shudder as he chuckled.

We got to our cars and I turned to rest my back on the outside of mine. He snaked his hands around my waist and pulled me closer to him. I locked my hands behind his neck and pulled his lips to mine. He crushed me against him and a small groan escaped my mouth.

A loud commotion sounded like the clatter of stumbling feet and Harry and I broke apart and looked at each other.

“Get down! Beg for mercy!” A voice bellowed.

“Quiet or someone will hear you!” The other voice replied.

“Do not tell me what to do or I swear I will end you!”

I looked at Harry and his eyes were locked on mine, his emerald orbs the size of large grapes. Harry grabbed my wrist and pulled me down to the pavement so that we couldn’t be seen above or through the cars. Hopefully the two people didn’t look underneath.

My heart pounded against my ribcage as Harry pulled me into his arms and we sat on the damp ground.

“No! No please! I beg of you no! I have a family! A wife and kids! I’m the only income, they won’t survive without me!” The second man pleaded.

I put my hand to my mouth to stop the scream that was choking me. I looked at Harry with tears threatening to escape my eyes. He put his index finger to his mouth signaling me to stay quiet. He appeared to be calm but I could feel his heart pounding on my shoulder. I buried my face in his chest. The worst part about the whole situation is that I didn’t know what was going on. I didn’t know if one of the men actually posed as a threat and if he did, then would that threat soon be directed at us?

“No! No!” The second man shouted and a loud, ear-splitting shot was sounded and Harry and I both flinched. I immediately looked at Harry and I could only imagine that my face mirrored his: Huge eyes, mouth in the shape of an “o,” sweat gathering on the upper lip.

Harry got up quickly and peered around the side of my car before stepping out. “Harry!” I hissed and then sat back with my mouth over my hand as he walked further away. Tears streamed down my cheeks. I crawled to the back of the cars and peered around them to see what was happening. My heart lurched. Harry was my best friend…more than my best friend. If anything happened to him my life would end.

I leaned with my back against my car and my knees pulled up to my chest. I couldn’t watch what was going on. I shut my eyes and listened, hoping I wouldn’t hear another echoing shot.

I heard the killer’s voice sound, “You! Just what I needed! An escape!”

My eyes flew open and my heart pounded harder. What did he mean?

“I don’t understand.” Harry said calmly.

“You’re just the thing I needed in order to escape this.” He said not hinting at what he actually meant.

I cupped my hands around my mouth and nose, ignoring the wetness of the pavement that was beginning to make my jeans damp.

“I’m still not following you sir.” Harry said, his voice cracking a little.

“This is all you need to know. This will help you to understand.” The killer said.

I leaned around the car and peered at Harry and the other man. My heart skipped again as the killer walked closer to Harry, his silver pistol shining in the light from the street lamps. I gasped as the killers hand went to Harry’s brown leather jacket and stuck something in the inside pocket. Harry placed his hand over the object that now rested in his chest pocket. I couldn’t see Harry’s face his back was to me.

I saw the killer place his silver pistol to his own temple, “It’s just easier this way.” He hissed.

“No wait!” Harry yelled as the killer pulled the trigger and ended his own life. Harry stumbled backward, tripping on a stone and falling to the ground.

“Harry!” I screamed and charged from behind the cars. “Oh Harry are you okay?” I asked tears streaming down my cheeks as I looked into Harry’s eyes.

“Yeah, yeah I’m fine I think.” He said looking at himself cautiously. There were small drops of blood on his brown jacket that he quickly wiped away with his own hand. He looked at his hand now tinted with scarlet. His hand began to tremble as he looked at me with huge emerald eyes. “Charlie, what do we do?” He asked, his voice cracking just like it had when he spoke to the killer.

“I don’t know.” I whispered.

I glanced back at the two dead men lying in awkward positions on the pavement, pools of blood forming around their deceased bodies.

“I don’t know.” I repeated.

Just then I heard the sound of sirens and saw flashing red and blue lights reflect off the light brick of the restaurant we were just in. “Harry.” I whimpered.

“It’ll be okay. We just have to explain to them what happened. We’re witnesses Charlie, we did nothing wrong.” He soothed, though I could tell he was just as nervous as I was.

“Get off the ground now and put your hands behind your head!” A police officer bellowed.

We stood up slowly and did exactly what was asked. “Good evening officer!” Harry croaked, “I’m so glad you’re here!”

“Yeah I doubt it curly,” The officer sneered and Harry flinched beside me, “You two are under arrest for murder!”

love it you should continue writing the story

No! Don't DELETE it! And it could be that you only have 4 chapters, and a lot of people like longer stories, so they can read longer. I don't like the stories that are longer. I like the brand new stories, fresh. They are usually the good stories. :) SO PLEASE DON'T DELETE IT!!!! =D

No, dont delete it.....because its amazing

Don't delete it! People give horrible scores not because they don't like your writing or uniqueness but because they're usually jealous or don't understand what's going on. Keep up the good work I say. xx

Omg!! It's amazing.....please you need to update
