Chapter 8- It's Story Time
Alexandra POV:
“I was on a run and spotted you lying underneath this tree,” he paused pointing above. Reaching for my hand, he slowly began stroking it before he continued. “ I wasn’t just gonna leave you here alone like this,” he said as if it was obvious.
“Thank….you…” I practically stuttered.
He shook his head and flashed a lovingly smile that seemed so genuinely sweet, that it made an unexpected warmth run through me, “No need for any thanks love. Are you alright?”
“Umm…yeah.. I’m fine.”
He chuckled, “ Don’t even try to lie to me, cause I can see right through you.”
Dammit. He must be psychic or something….but then again, I might just be a horrible liar.
I pushed my hair out of my face, while slowly rubbing my eyes. I’m a procrastinator if you haven’t noticed.
Twiddling my fingers, I looked up to come face to face with his shimmering eyes and sincere smile.
“I guess I have a lot of explaining to do, don’t I?”
“Yes, yes you do.”
Hopping up from the withered grass, Liam pulled his hand out towards mine.
Picking myself up, I quickly threw my hair in a messy bun. I knew I looked like shit, so why bother trying to hide it?
“C'mon lets go”
I reached for his hand willingly and as I walked beside him, he lead the way.
“Where are we going?” I finally asked.
Avoiding the question he responded with “ When was the last time you ate something?”
“Yesterday.”
“Well then, it’s time for breakfast.”
*
We settled in front of a petite coffee shop (x). From the outside, it didn’t seem crowded at all.
There were chairs and wooden tables left outside with a navy blue sign that had the words scribed Caroline Caféabove.
The exterior of the shop was painted a vibrant orange and had exotic plants sitting to the left. Stepping up to the platform, there was a chalkboard with almost illegible writing that stated OPEN in messy lettering.
Liam nudged me and gave a nod, signaling for me to step inside. As I pulled the heavy door, my nose was filled with the scent of coffee beans and creamy vanilla.
Letting my eyes wander, there was mix of small tables, bar seating, and comfortable couches spread across the room. A stack of old magazines and newspapers were plopped on the chocolate brown tables.
The atmosphere was tremendously soothing, yet there was nobody inside.
Living in London, you would think I would have come to this café before…but to my surprise, I never even knew this place existed.
We scurried over to the counter where there was a short, freckled, curly-headed brunette hiding behind.
She was texting away on her IPhone until Liam coughed awkwardly to get her attention. Her head shot up immediately.
“Hello, may I take your order?” she said, not taking her eyes off the boy standing alongside of me.
As I read over the menu dangling on the wall, I decided on a hazelnut latte and blueberry muffin. Once I placed my order, Liam did the same.
“You’re total is $9.26.”
He opened his wallet while taking out his cash, until I interjected, “You’re not paying for me.”
Liam had a baffled look upon his face. “ It’s not that big of a deal. Alexandra, I’m paying,” he spoke sternly.
Shaking my head, I reached for my suitcase that I had trudged along behind me and began to dig for my change purse.
I don’t know why, but I never liked the idea of having someone spend their own money on me. It made me feel pathetic and as if they pitied me. I am an independent woman who can afford to buy for her own god damn breakfast.
When I finally zipped my bag back up, he scoffed, “ Are you being serious right now?!”
“Liam, I’m bloody serious.”
As I spoke those four words, it was too late. He had already given the money to the girl at the cash register.
“What the hell!” I screeched as I slapped him in the arm.
“You’ll have to be quicker next time” he laughed.
Grabbing our drinks and paper bag, he led us to a secluded area in the far corner. There was a table and two chairs inviting us to sit down, and so we did. I actually kind of liked the privacy.
“So,” he began.“It’s story time.”
