BROKEN
Chapter 7- Needing To Be Saved
My eyes narrowed towards the open suitcase lying beside her and that’s when a light bulb went off above my head. Well, not literally. But whatever you get what I mean ok.
Why was Alexandra over there?
I carefully stood up from the wooden bench and tiptoed underneath the leafy tree. Bending down next to her, I watched as a single tear dripped down her face. Feeling a pang of sorrow, I took my thumb and wiped the water off of her ashen cheeks.
Wait. She was wearing the exact same clothes as yesterday.
How long has she been here?
She shivered violently as the howling wind blew once again. Right away, I pulled my sweatshirt off and placed it lightly above her shoulders. Hopefully, she wouldn’t quiver as much in this bitter weather.
I kneeled down beside her and began stroking her back in tiny circles.
There were so many questions I wanted to ask her. I mean, I only saw met Alexandra a day ago at the pizza place and well…she seemed fine…
….until she said she had to leave.
What could have happened?
Ugh. So much guilt was running through my body. What if the boys did something to her? What if they said something?
All I know is that whatever happened to her, she most certainly did not deserve.
I shifted my eyes, only to observe the pale, broken girl resting alongside of me. Boy, she looked a wreck.
My mind was racing a million miles a minute. Although I barely knew her, I was coming up with all of the possibilities that could explain her sleeping outside in the freezing cold, crying.
but what transpired next was definitely not expected.
Suddenly, her breathing quickened. Her cries grew louder and louder and she was shaking violently.
“DON’T! STOP! PLEASE DON’T HURT ME!”
I jumped up at her sudden screams, which I was certainly not prepared for.
“OW! YOUR HURTING ME! PLEASE STOP!…ILL DO ANYTHING!”
My eyes widened in horror. I wasn’t even touching her. That’s when I realized… she was still fully asleep.
“DON’T DO THIS TO ME! STOP! OW! JUST STOP GOD DAMMIT!”
She appeared to be in so much pain and I just couldn’t take it anymore. I reached over, putting both of my hands cautiously on her shoulders and I shook them slightly.
I needed to save her from that terrifying nightmare.
Alexandra POV:
My eyes shot open.
Thank god it was just a dream.
My body was shivering uncontrollably.
But that’s not all.
My head was pounding, my throat was burning, and I could barely breathe altogether. Gasping for air, wet hot tears were filling up my eyes as tiny droplets fell one by one. Everything was so blurry.
When I finally managed to see again, I looked up only to see chocolate brown orbs glaring down at mine. Covering my puffy eyes with my trembling hands, a soft voice hummed in my ear.
“Shhh, everything’s gonna be alright.”
Oh please. I’ve heard that phrase throughout my life, but every time it seemed to let me down. Tears were now rapidly falling from my eyes as I felt strong arms cradling me in a tight embrace.
Without thinking, I nuzzled my head in the stranger’s chest, tentatively listening to his soothing (yet oddly familiar) voice and the sound of his ongoing heartbeat.
‘Everythings gonna be alright.’
He kept repeating those four words softly and after while, I started to believe them. I thought all of my hope was drained out of me, but I guess there was still a little left.
Maybe I spoke to soon….
The vision of that torturing nightmare was now coming back to me. Everything about it seemed…so….real.
It sucks knowing there’s absolutely nothing I can do about it.
These horrible memories are suffocating me and taking over my life. I’m being tortured day and night with these terrible flashbacks. I want it to go away. All of it. Everything.
I wanna be left at peace. Sadly, I don’t think that will ever happen.
But for the first time in awhile, I actually feel safe. Pinching myself to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating, I tried to shake the repulsive image out of my head so I can just enjoy this moment.
I sighed, releasing the palm of my hands from my oh-not-so-attractive-face to reveal this mystery person.
Who could it be? I mean, I definitely was not expecting anyone to find me. It’s not like anyone would look for me anyways…
My jaw dropped instantly when my eyes fell on the innocent looking boy sitting beside me.
Liam?
Was that even his name? idk.
“ Ummm…Li…Liam….why…uh….why are you here?” I managed to mutter silently.
