BROKEN
Chapter 14- Déjà vu
Alexandra POV
Dashing towards the elevator, I began jabbing the button with the arrow pointing upwards - about one hundred times. I would've kept going, but my pointer finger was getting sore and you know, I'm kinda pooped after that tiresome run. Instantly, the minuscule button transformed into a bright red light, indicating that my desire to head to the upper floor would be completed.
Heaving a sigh, I looked down at my wrist, expecting the time to appear on my nonexistent watch. Too bad I was just staring blankly at my nude olive skin. Sigh.
Gosh, could this lift be any slower?
I felt kinda bad for violently abusing the button that was pressed against the wall, but I mean, how long does it take for an elevator to go up and down?
Like seriously.
Placing my thumb and forefinger on the bridge of my nose, I was expecting my headache to drift away. For some reason, these indescribable past couple of events keep wandering in the back of my mind and I'm incapable to stop them.
Like the kiss.
When Niall leaned in, I was legitimately frozen. I couldn't even move if I tried. How could I let myself stoop so low to kiss him when I was pissed off at him a minutes before?
Hm. Maybe I'm bipolar.
Tugging on the ends of my hair, I just wanted to scream. Everything felt so wrong.
But how can something so wrong feel so right?
asfhkllhfsadghkl.
I never thought fate would drive my life in this direction.
As of now, I don't even know where my life journey is headed. & I cant tell whether that is a good or bad thing.
With my luck, probably bad.
But, shoving aside all the terrible aspects taking place, there is one thing, well actually one person who can still keep me smiling.
Even if my world is falling apart.
& maybe that's because he doesn't know exactly all the problems I'm facing. And all the mountains I'm trying to climb.
But it's better that way.
For now, I'm happy I'm here. I'm glad I chose to stay and I'm excited to beat his ass in this little race.
To my surprise, I was still standing in the lobby waiting restlessly eager for the elevator doors to slide open.I kept tapping my foot on the floor in attempt to distract myself, but time was going by slower than I could imagine.
I was mentally debating whether or not to just take the stairs.
But that would require so much more exercise.
So, no.
Then I began to wonder how far behind Niall was. He could be close. Spinning around on my tippy toes, my eyes shifted around the busy hotel floor for a blonde headed boy. He was nowhere to be seen.
Yet.
Score! This automatically means I'm gonna win this. My competitive side was glistening and I couldn't wait to rub it in his face.
I was still frustrated that this damn elevator was taking centuries to reach to my level, but I think it's pretty clear that Niall is an extreme slow poke. Which means, there is no need for me to worry.
Although, I could've been upstairs already, coming up with jokes about his distressingly bad running pace and horrendous athletic skill. Maybe I'll say something to him like, "If you had cut down on your nandos, you could've beaten me," or " you are what you eat."
Ha ha. I'm funny.
My mind was running a mile a minute, but was suddenly disturbed by a familiar ding.
An award winning smirk was growing on my face as I took a step inside the elevator, ready to perform my victory dance.
I was halfway through when I felt a pair of hands covered my eyes. I let out a small shriek and jumped up by surprise.
"Guess who?" A husky voice mumbled inside my ear.
I turned around, only to have Niall's hands let go and fall to my waist. The distance was unbearable and I couldn't help myself from glancing down from his eyes to his plump, strawberry lips.
" Hmm. I don't know, but you look familiar?" I said, almost as if it was a question.
In response, his eyebrows knitted together, giving me a look as if saying I-think-you-are-crazy. So, I continued on.
"Oh yeah, you're the loser who lost the race," I winked as the sound of the elevator doors shut.
" Hey that's not fair! You cheated!" he quipped while letting go of me and protruding his lower lip into a sulky pout.
"I still won though."
"We shall see about that." He smiled smugly.
Niall reached towards the wall and pressed level 9 before slinging his arm over my shoulders, smiling brightly at me. I couldn't help myself from doing the same.
" You don't mind going back to Liam's room for a bit. Do you?"
Promptly, his tone shifted from silly to much more serious.
Hmm.
Studying his countenance, his upper lip twitched and his eyes were locked on mine.
Contemplating the question, I looked up at his glazed blue eyes. They were flooded with concern and I was drowning under his intense stare. He looked so god damn innocent and I just wanted to give him a giant bear hug.
However, I didn't wanna make him worry, so I guess I'll suck it up and ignore Liam.
Lets see how that goes....
"Um..yeah I guess we could for a bit...."
" Good."
From there, the bronze door swung open and the usual ding filled the stuffy air. Without a second thought, Niall pulled his arm away from me so fast I didn't even know what was happening.
"Race ya back to the room!"
Oh that little twat.
I should've saw that coming.
"CHEATER!"
He was already distancing and I just wanted to wack him with wedge hammer. Okay well not literally, but that was pretty devious of him.
Stupid Horan. If he beats me, there won't be a victory dance. Oh no.
I found myself laughing uncontrollably as my legs carried me down the hall. My pace quickened each time I heard Niall's self satisfied chuckles.
Lucky for me, I was much faster than him and was hot on his heels.
& Right before his hand extended to knock on the freshly painted door, I leaped off the ground, pouncing on him.
We both collapsed on the floor with a loud thud along the way. Niall was flat on his back and I was lying directly above him.
"It's funny we keep meeting like this," he sniggered.
I couldn't help myself from giggling along with him. This was so true. We were both in the exact same position as we were the first time we met-at the pizza place.
déjà vu.
I blushed furiously without any intentions of doing so. Along came with a moment of silence where we just stared at each other breathlessly. Breaking the peace and quiet, Niall grinned, " Did you know how adorable you look when you blush?"
Before I could spit out a word, I was mesmerized by his every movement.
He. Was. Leaning. In.
And. I. Was. Leaning. Back.
I was frozen again.
We were now only inches apart and my eyelids began to flutter closed. I could indisputably smell his alluring aftershave.
We were so close.
So, so close.
" Niall? Alexandra? What are you doing?"
Well, that was an interruption.
I scrambled off Niall's toned body as he hopped off the ground as well.
What a relief.
This situation could've been much, much more awkward if Zayn walked a second later. Phew.
Stumbling on my words, I blurted out what I could manage. " Well- uh we uh- had a race you know? And I was uh losing- yeah I was. So, I uh tackled Niall. Cause um. Well- he actually- no, it was me, yeah, I didn't want to lose so umm...that's why uh- I mean, that's how we ended up on the floor, okay yeah. "
"Wait why did you run away in the first place?"
" Well, the thing is, I um- erm.."
Niall noticed me struggling and quickly intervened. I silently thanked him with a subtle head nod.
" She didn't know about One Direction and was kind of shocked. Well actually, really shocked. But, I found her and now here we are."
Cue the awkwardness.
" Alright, well room service came. Come on in."
Zayn moved aside as we both scurried our way through the massive hotel room.
I mean, MASSIVE.
I don't know why, but I was all of a sudden becoming awkward and bulky, but Niall seemed to sense my hesitation. Protectively, he grabbed my hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. That was all I needed.
We made our way over to the designated living room area as Liam and Harry waved hello. I did the same in return, but only to Harry. I didn't even dare to look at Liam.
" I'm gonna go get my lunch! I'm starving!" Niall groaned, after giving my hand one last squeeze. Within the blink of an eye, he was already out the room.
Harry patted the seat next to him, gesturing for me to come over. Unwillingly, i did as i plopped down beside him, giving a weak smile. I could feel Liam's forceful stare burning into my skin, but I tried to ignore it. I just wanted to ignore him altogether.
" Babe, you left your phone here," Harry said, before reaching in his skinny jeans pocket and handing me my shitty iPhone. It was a hand-me-down 4s and had a pretty severe cracked screen. But hey, I'm lucky enough to even have a telephone device, considering I'm broke. #poor
"Thanks Henry."
" No problem Amanda. You know, I was really tempted to look through your messages, but it was against my better judgement."
I nodded, not really paying attention as I slid my finger across the surface, unlocking my phone.
" You're phone wouldn't stop buzzing either."
That didn't surprise me.
"Mhmm," I mumbled as I scrolled past the useless texts that I could give two shits about. Cough Jake cough cough.
To my surprise, there were about five unread messages from Samantha. Instantly, I clicked her name and read each text word for word.
"Shit," I muttered.
" Whats wrong?" Liam and Harry asked in unison.
Rolling my eyes at Paynes attempt to speak with me, I looked up at the curly headed boy and sighed.
"I missed my first day at work."
"Oh. That's a problem. What's your job?"
Suddenly, I felt kinda embarrassed. Considering, their wealthy as fuck and I'm poor as hell. They're famous, I'm homeless. I'm ugly and useless, while they all have abnormal great looks and are successful.
See the difference?
" Joes Pizza Place" I whispered in a hushed tone.
" What did you say?" He asked, with a tone laced with confusion.
" The pizza place where I met you guys."
Harry responded, but I wasn't quite listening. I was hurriedly typing away and sending Sam my apologies.
Hi Sam. I completely forgot about work today and I'm so sorry. Please forgive me? Do I have a chance of keeping my employment? :/
With that, I threw my phone on the ground, praying that I won't lose a job I haven't even started.
"Amandaaaaaa!" Harry whined. Gosh, I can't believe he's still calling me that.
"Whaaaattttttt" I mimicked him with an annoying, high pitched, complaining cry.
" Where are you from? You don't have a British accent."
" Just like me!" Niall shouted from across the room before making his way over. His arms were full of food and his mouth was stuffed.
"Nialler, she's obviously not Irish. Are you American?"
" Yep."
" Why'd you move here?"
Oh, how I was dreading that question.
"Personal reasons," I snapped, a bit too harshly. But, that was just a touchy subject for me and I didn't plan on sharing what those "reasons" were.
"Somebody's feisty," Harry growled before moving closer, his hot breath on my ear.
"I like that."
