Midnight Memories
The walk home
-----Amelia’s POV-----
I took a deep breath, the cold night time air filling my lungs as we began the walk back to our hotel. I tilted my head back, looking up at the clear sky, stars clearly visible in the black night. My mind wandered back to this evening’s goings on. It had turned out a little differently than I’d imagined, but I have to say I’m not at all upset about how it unfolded. I smiled to myself, thinking about the way he’d looked at me, the way our bodies had been so close, his warm breath on my face. We almost kissed. I almost kissed Niall Horan. Well that would be one to tell the grandkids. I cannot believe I gave him my number, I just walked right up to him, wrote my number down, kissed him on the cheek and left. I don’t know where this new found confidence had come from, maybe it was the knock to the head, but I’m not going to over think it. I found myself wondering if he would actually call me, or if he’d just think I’m another crazy fan who’s in love with him. I mean… I am another crazy fan, but not completely crazy, just… enthusiastic. But what If he did call me. What if he actually called me on my phone, I don’t know why he would but you never know. Tonight has shown me that anything can happen, especially when you least expect it. I was broken from my thoughts as I was shoved sideways.
“Are you listening to a word I’m saying?!” Evie yelled from beside me, “this was the craziest night ever and you’re choosing now to day dream!”
“Sorry!” I responded, laughing at the exasperated expression on my friend’s face, “I’m just trying to understand what actually happened tonight!”
“Okay, well now you’re listening, please do explain what I missed while you were alone with NIALL HORAN in ONE DIRECTION’S dressing room!” she laughed, exaggerating Niall Horan and One Direction whilst flailing her arms in my face.
“Okay! Chill out crazy woman!” I laughed waving her hands away from my face and continuing, “So I left you when I was feeling dizzy and I went to find the toilets, but it was so hot in that arena I had to get out so I found an emergency exit and went outside to this alleyway behind the building”
Her eyes watched me intently as I recalled what had happened.
“So I was standing in this alleyway feeling like crap and I heard someone ask if I was alright. Next thing I know I’m falling to the floor. Then I wake up with enough time to realise I’m being carried somewhere before I pass out again. Next time I wake up I’m lying on a sofa surrounded by one direction”
“Then the guys came to look for me, I was freaking out girl I thought you’d been kidnapped!” Evie butted in, adding to my re-telling of events.
“Yeah then the guys went to look for you and it was just me and Niall” I smiled at her, feeling as though I’d finished telling her all she needed to know.
“And then?” she responded, pausing to wait for my reply.
“And then nothing, you turned up and we left” I responded blankly.
“Oh no, don’t you give me that, we all saw you and Niall sitting a little too comfortably close to each other when we walked in” she raised her eyebrow at me, “Don’t you tell me nothing happened in that dressing room”
“I promise you, nothing happened” I sighed, remembering that what I was saying was true, “But something almost happened… if you guys hadn’t had walked in when you did…”
“Was he going to kiss you?” Evie squealed leaping in front of me and blocking my path.
“I think so…” I grinned, giggling at the memory.
“OH MY GOD MEELS!” Evie yelled, throwing her arms around me, “okay so I’m going to be maid of honour, I think you should have a summer wedding and then it can be outside you know…”
I laughed, allowing Evie to continue the wedding planning as we rounded the corner to the street out hotel was on. I wasn’t really listening to what she was saying any more, it was just background noise for my thoughts. I returned again to thinking about how we’d almost kissed. My heart did a little flip just thinking about it, the way he’d been so sweet to me, telling me he was my prince charming. Oh god I told him he could be my prince charming any time. Why was I such a loser, I needed to learn to control my mouth. He probably thought I was a little crazy, but let’s be honest, I wasn’t completely normal. I just hope he didn’t think I was so crazy that he needed to get as far away from me as possible. But the way he looked when he bent over to get that bottle of water. There was no denying the fact that he had a lovely bum. I would like to touch that bum. Is that weird? Yes definitely weird. I pulled my phone out of my pocket, checking to see if I had any texts. Nothing. Feeling a little disappointed I replaced the phone in my pocket. What was I thinking, it had been about 10 minutes since we left, if he was going to text me, which I’m about 248% sure wasn’t going to happen, he would wait a little longer than 10 minutes before doing so. You know, don’t want to seem to eager or anything. I pulled out my purse, rummaging around to find the key card to the building. Evie was still ranting next to me, I think she’d started planning the honeymoon now; the Maldives seemed to be the destination of choice. I giggled; unlocking the door and holding it open for Evie to pass. I’m pretty sure she hadn’t stopped talking for the whole journey, and didn’t until we reached our room. Dropping my bag onto the floor, I threw myself onto the bed, my face buried into the soft white sheets and pillows. Letting out a long sigh I rolled over onto my back, staring at the ceiling.
“What up Meels?” Evie asked, flopping into the bed beside me.
“This was the best night of my life…” I responded, “And now it’s over”
“Oh hell no girl!” I was shocked to see a pillow flying towards my face at a high velocity. “I don’t want to hear you talking like that! You’ll see, any moment now he’ll text you and your love story will begin”
I laughed at her optimism, throwing the pillow back in her direction before returning to staring at the ceiling. I closed my eyes, trying to work up the motivation to get up and get ready for bed. I rolled sideways onto the floor, using all the energy I could muster up to crawl towards the bathroom, grabbing my pyjamas on the way.
I stood in the bathroom, brushing my hair in front of the large mirror before pulling it back into a ponytail. Reaching over into my toiletries bag I pulled out a packet of makeup wipes, my toothbrush and toothpaste. I began to remove the makeup from my face, the wipe becoming dirty with eyeliner and foundation. Once I was happy I’d removed everything I smiled into the mirror, surprised at how my skin still looked quite good. I squirted a small splodge of toothpaste onto the brush and began cleaning my teeth. My routine was suddenly interrupted by a squeal, followed by banging at the bathroom door.
-----Evie’s POV-----
I sprawled out on the bed, smiling at the memories of what had happened this glorious night. I can’t believe we’d met them, we actually met one direction. They were so lovely, such sweet boys and they’d taken care of Amelia so they were definitely in my good books. Oh god Amelia and Niall. I’m pretty sure we all noticed their close proximity and how they’d jumped apart from each other when we walked into the room. I know Harry had noticed, I’d seen that cheeky little smirk appear on his face as he glanced between them. And she’d given him her number! I can’t believe she did that, I would never have been that brave; I would have just melted into a puddle on the floor. Actually I almost did, I’m surprised I managed to keep my composure for so long. My thoughts were interrupted by a soft jingling noise coming from the other side of the room. I pulled myself up off the bed and wandered over to the source of the sound. I noticed Amelia’s phone lit up, a few texts on the screen. I quickly unlocked it, tapping on the message button to see who had text her. The first text was from Rosa;
“Howdy Meels! Hope you and Evie had a super fun night I can’t wait to see you tomorrow! Meet me at the station at 10:30 okay my lovely, love you lots, and see you tomorrow x x”
I smiled, responding to the text for Meels, confirming that we had a super night and we would meet her at the station before telling her we loved her lots too. I then went back to the messaged to see who the other one was from. There wasn’t a name next to the text, just a number. I clicked on the message curious as to who it was.
“Hey Amelia, it’s Niall…” I stopped reading right then, too distracted by my own squeals to read the rest. I ran to the bathroom door banging on it and calling for Amelia.
“MEELS GET OUT HERE RIGHT NOW!” I yelled through the door, still holding the phone in my hand.
The door opened to reveal Amelia, toothbrush in her mouth, frowning at me.
“Evie, I’m brushing my teeth!” She mumbled, removing her toothbrush from her mouth and spitting the toothpaste into the sink. “What do you want?”
“Read. The. Freaking. Text.” I responded, handing her the phone, “just read the text”
“Hey Amelia, it’s Niall…” She paused, dropping her toothbrush onto the counter and looking up at me, shock on her face.
“Keep reading it!!” I yelled eager to hear the rest of the text.
“Hey Amelia, it’s Niall” She began again after composing herself, “I just thought I’d text you to make sure you got back to your hotel okay, and also so now you have my number. I hope your head’s feeling better and I’d like I’ll see you again soon x”
I gasped, staring up at Amelia, who was looking just as astounded as me.
“What do I do Evie?” she asked, breaking back into reality, “do I text him back I need to text him back right?”
“Yes you need to text him back!” I replied, hardly able to contain my excitement.
“Okay here goes…” she responded, before beginning her text, “Hey Niall, yeah we got back to the hotel just fine thanks for checking in. My head’s feeling much better thank you and yes, I would also like to see you again sometime x”
“That sounds great” I confirmed, “Now send it”
She hit the send button as we made our way back to the bed and sat down beside each other. We sat there for a few minutes, the phone on the bed in front of us, waiting to see if he would reply. The familiar jingling sound went off as the phone screen lit up, revealing a response. Amelia grabbed the phone faster that I could say Niall and was reading the response out to me.
“I’m glad you got back okay and that your head is feeling better. Well me and the boys are having a little get together tomorrow if you and Evie would like to come? It would be nice to see you x” she read the message, her eyes wide.
“Oh my god.” I gasped, “Did we just get invited to a party?”
Amelia responded to the text: “We would love to come, would it be okay if our friend Rosa came too? X”
It wasn’t long till we had received another reply: “yeah of course that’s fine, the more the merrier :) I’ll text you the address tomorrow, wear something pretty ;) Good night Amelia x”
We text back our final reply: “Okay, thank you, we’ll see you tomorrow! Good night Niall x”
Throwing her phone onto the floor, Amelia flopped onto her back before rolling over to face me.
“Oh my god Evie” she whispered.
“Definitely a summer wedding” I whispered in response, giggling and climbing under the duvet.
I leaned over, switching off the light as we lay back to go to sleep, both struggling to process the night’s events. I still couldn’t believe all of this had happened. But if there was one thing I was sure of, it was that tomorrow was going to be a very interesting day.
