Snake Eyes (Louis Tomlinson Fan Fic)

Dinner and Deceit

Harry POV

After I left Louis and Loren in the hallway, I went downstairs to change into a fresh shirt. I couldn’t stop thinking about Louis’ behavior. He had me baffled. For a moment, I thought he was actually mad at me when he found me with Loren. I debated on whether or not to leave them alone because I really didn’t want him upsetting her anymore, but he looked like he was going to punch me if I didn’t leave. Maybe the stress of this situation is turning him schizophrenic because he goes from ripping her head off to almost possessive of her. I always knew deep down he was a little mental.

Shaking off the bizarre encounter, I made my way back down to the dining room. To my surprise, I didn’t get lost in this maze of a mansion. Alfonso was waiting at the head of the table. When he saw me he smiled.

“Welcome back Harry. Please join me for a glass of wine.”

“Thanks Alfonso. I could use one after today.” He chuckled when I gave him a dramatic look.

“Where is the happy couple?” He asked with a smirk.

“Hopefully not gouging each other’s eyes out,” I joked.

"Why didn't they come back down with you?"

"Louis said he wanted to speak with Loren alone. I'm starting to regret that I didn't tell him no." Seriously, those two left alone could commit a double homicide.

"Harry, soon they will be married. You can't play moderator all the time. Loren and Louis will learn to get along. In fact, they might surprise you." He gives me a knowing look that leaves me at a loss.

"They will only surprise me if they both make it down here alive and intact. Those two can really go at it."

"Yes, they are passionate. I told Louis all that passion will make for a good marriage." Is he crazy?

"Uh, Alfonso. I hate to tell you this, but I don't think that kind of passion is going to cut it. Their contempt for each other is going to lead one of them to an early grave." He started laughing at me. Why am I the only one worried about these two?

"Oh Harry! You are so young and naive. You mistake physical attraction for passion. There is much more to it. You will learn one day." His comment reminds me that he lost his love.

"Lor said you and her mum were really in love so I guess you know about these things more than I do, but your marriage was nothing like this one is going to be. You probably met and it was love at first sight." Alfonso doubles over in laughter at my words, his face almost hitting the table.

"Harry you are delightful. No son, it definitely was not love at first sight. When I met my Gabi, she was the most annoying creature on earth. She and her friends came into my casino while on break from university. Gabi was so serious and complained about everything in my casino. She didn’t like the décor, the drinks weren’t strong enough. She just went on and on. I was young, successful, and arrogant-“

“Sounds like Lou,” I cut Alfonso off and chuckle.

“I suppose I was a little like him back then,” he chuckles, “But I think Louis is a better man than I was at that age. Anyhow, my floor manager was fed up with Gabi’s complaints so I came down to personally deal with her. Throwing a woman out of the casino would have looked bad. I asked her to come to my office to share her grievances with me. I tried to be kind to her, but she was so stubborn and difficult. We argued and she ended up calling me a bastard and slapping me-“

“Oh that sounds familiar! What did you do?” I interrupt him again and can’t help but laugh and be amazed at his story. It sounds a lot like Louis and Loren.

“I grabbed her and kissed her, of course,” I spat out my wine at his response.

“You what?!” He gave me a look like I should have known that was the logical answer.

“I. Kissed. Her.” He basically spells it out like I’m an idiot.

“What did she do?”

“She gave me a right upper cut and knocked me out. When I came to, Gabi had my head in her lap issuing me apologies. We stared at each other, she bent down and kissed me, and I knew I was in love with her and never wanted to be without her. The rest is history and we were married three weeks later.”

“Wow,” I have no other response. The story stuns me into silence.

“My world was perfect with Gabi, only becoming utopia once Loren was born. When Gabi was taken from me, my world would have ceased to exist if it weren’t for Loren. That is why I work so hard to protect her and keep her safe.” Alfonso says with a voice tinged with sadness.

“I understand, but Louis and Loren being forced together. It’s just not…natural.” I can’t think of a better way to phrase it.

“Give it a little time and faith Harry.” She says with a knowing look on his face.

“Speaking of time, Louis and Loren have been gone too long, don’t you think? Maybe we should go look for them before they kill each other?” I am starting to feel extremely nervous that they are tearing each other apart.

“Harold, such little faith in me? I told you Loren and I were going to have a little, private talk.” I turn at the sound of Louis’ voice and I can imagine what my face looks like, jaw open and eyes wide. I look to the two of them – Louis and Loren are in each other’s arms and smiling. Did Alfonso spike my drink? Am I hallucinating? Is this an alternate universe I’m trapped inside?

Loren’s POV

When Harry turned around to look at me and Louis, I wish I had my phone out to take a picture of the look on his face. Maybe we are better actors than I thought because he looked stunned. I can’t say as I blame him though. We walked in with Louis’ arm around my waist with his free hand holding one of mine and my other arm around his waist. If we can shock Harry, who’s seen us fight nearly to the death, maybe everyone else will believe us.

“Harry, please close your mouth. You look like a fish run aground gasping for air.” I couldn’t resist teasing him.

“Good one love,” Louis praises me.

“Thank you Lou.” I coo.

“Oh my God! Stop it you two! You are freaking me out!” Harry jumps up and pulls on the roots of his hair.

“What Harry? Aren’t you delighted we aren’t fighting? You should congratulate us, we are officially engaged.” Louis says in a sickeningly sweet tone and gushing as he pulls out my left hand to present to Harry and my father; it’s all I can do not to dissolve into laughter at Harry’s expression.

“I’m happy you aren’t screaming at each other, but you are like a damn Stepford couple now and it’s freaking me out! And, you’re actually engaged? Loren, you let him put that ring on your finger? I. Am. So. Confused.” Harry collapses back into his seat elbows on the table with his face in his hands and I start howling with laughter.

“What?” Harry looks up and snarls at me.

“Tsk tsk Harold. I can’t have you talking to my beloved fiancé like that.” Louis sasses and this is just making the whole scene better.

“This is actually fun,” I cup my hand to Louis’ and whisper and I notice he shivers. Bizarre. Harry also notices Louis’ response and starts yelling again.

“Stop!!! I can’t take this! Now she’s your beloved and you are whispering sweet nothings in his ear?!” Harry points at us, yelling, and really seems to be losing it. Now, Louis, my father, and I are all laughing at Harry.

Louis and I pull apart and it’s a relief, but at the same time, I think I liked the feeling of his arm around me.

“Don’t be stupid Harold. We are putting on an act to pull off this engagement and marriage. Obviously, we’re pretty good at this already,” Louis again throwing sass in Harry’s direction.

“Ohhhh. Wow, you guys were convincing.” He says in relief.

I walk to sit over by Harry when I hear Louis clear his throat.

“Um love, you might want to get used to sitting next to me,” Louis says.

“Oh yes. You’re right. You can knock it off with the ‘love’. It’s just us four,” I say.

“Sorry, but I need to stay in character so I don’t slip up.”

“Okay. Do I have to call you a pet name?” Please say no. Please say no. I’ll sound stupid.

“Why don’t you just call me Lou?” Just as I was about to agree, Harry piped in.

“Why don’t you just call him ‘Boobear’?” Harry wiggles his eyebrows.

“HAROLD!” Louis shouts.

“’Boobear’? Is that supposed to be a morph for Loubear?” I ask confused and trying not to laugh.

“Loubear is PERFECT! Besides, ‘Boobear’ is his mum’s pet name for him,” Harry howls and Louis looks mortified. My father is just sitting laughing at our exchanges.

“Awww, I can’t take Boobear from his mum. So, Loubear it is,” I smirk and the look on Louis’ face is priceless.

“You are NOT calling me Loubear.” He growls.

“Yes, I am and don’t sass me.” I dismiss him.

“I’ll sass you if I want and I won’t answer to that name.” He huffs.

“Oh thank heavens, we’re back to normal,” Harry sighs.

“You two are going to have to come up with a middle ground,” my father says and then changes topic, “Loren darling, I am so happy you agreed to wear Harlow. You don’t know how it pleases me to see it on your finger.” I feel myself flinch when he brings up the ring.

“Can we please just not talk about it Dad?” Louis grabs my hand and gives it a squeeze. I’m shocked because in the past 15 minutes, he’s like a different person towards me. Louis has actually been very sweet.

“Lor, you might as well get used to talking about it because the press is going to ask you lots of questions and many could be about the ring since it’s a well-known piece,” Louis says. I sigh knowing he is right and then something else he said caught my attention.

“Lor? Who said you can call me Lor?” I raise an eyebrow at him.

“If you are calling me Loubear, I am calling you Lor. Besides, Harry calls you Lor and you don’t seem to mind and, after all, I am your fiancé.”

“Please don’t remind me,” I mumble and Louis gives me a look like he’s about to unleash attitude on me again.

“Okay you two, let’s not regress,” my father scolds us to be silent as wait staff bring in our food.

Our meal is served and we are all quiet until the servers leave the room and the kitchen door clicks closed.

Louis POV

Man, Harry was out of control. Why was he freaking out that Loren and I were working together to pull this sham off? You think he’d be happy. I can’t help but wonder if he likes Loren for himself, which is really pissing me off for some reason. I don’t see it though. Harry always likes the fashion model type. Which brings me to another issue. Loren is definitely a match for my sass and she seems very smart and sharp as a tack, but how is anyone going to believe I am marrying her when she looks like she stepped out of Amish country? Mum, the girls, and Perrie are coming tonight. Maybe I can discreetly get them to help her with a little makeover without managing to insult Loren.

“Okay, let’s get down to business.” Alfonso snaps me out of my thoughts.

“Yes, the story. I don’t know where we should start,” I respond in all honesty.

“Let’s start at the very beginning,” Loren breaks out into song and Harry and I stare at her in disbelief. Her singing voice is lovely.

“Uh, sorry. I’m a big Sound of Music fan.” She says embarrassed. Her cheeks turn red and set off a lovely blush. What the hell Lou? Don’t start believing this lie you are living. You do not find her attractive.

“Nice. Your voice is lovely,” Harry coos and I want to slap him.

“Yes, lovely,” I say through gritted teeth.

“Let’s start with geography,” Alfonso takes charge, “Louis is from Doncaster. Loren went to Cambridge. So, we have the England connection where you two could have met.” Sounds reasonable so far.

“You’re from Doncaster?” Loren questions me as if my being from there is an absurd idea.

“Yes. You have a problem with that?” I’m ready to pounce if she trashes my hometown.

“No, not at all. I’ve been there a couple times. It’s a lovely place.”

“What?” Harry, Alfonso, and I all question.

“What? Don’t look at me like that. I’m not a total hermit,” Loren protests.

“Yes, but darling why were you in Doncaster – more than once – and I’m just hearing about it? Did you escape your security detail?” Alfonso questions with a little bit of anger.

“No. I promised to take them with me in exchange for them keeping quiet.”

“Okay, but why on earth would you be in Doncaster and why would they agree to go?” He asks and a thought springs to mind.

“I knew it! You do know who I am! You are that good of a liar until we tripped you up! You were a crazed stalker fan after all, weren’t you?!” I spat.

“Oh dear. Louis Tomlinson, international pop sensation, has entered the room again,” she sasses, “No you idiot. I went to Leeds Festival the past two years to see All Time Low and Fall Out Boy and it was a nice place to stop on the way there and back. Oh, I guess technically I’ve been there four times.” She says matter-of-factly and I am stunned.

“You went to Leeds Festival the past two years?” I ask in disbelief. Seriously, you could have told me the earth was in the shape of a triangle and I’d believe that before I believe Loren made the trip to Leeds twice.

“Yes, problem with that? I intend to go this summer if you don’t leash me,” she spits back at me.

“No, no problem. It’s just that I was also at Leeds the past two years.”

“Perfect. That is how you two met. At Leeds.” Alfonso says.

“It’s not that simple. There are thousands of people there.” Loren says.

“That’s what is so perfect. You met two years ago there only to meet again by chance last year and connected. You two can work out the minute details later. We need enough of a story to pass for tonight. Now, we need to work in the Doncaster part and come up with a story as to why Louis kept you a secret,” Alfonso says.

“Well, I’m the one who went with him to Leeds so I can be his cover,” Harry contributes.

“That is excellent,” Alfonso says excitedly.

“Lor, what did you like about Doncaster? Any place special you went?” I asked her and I was really curious to hear her response. She’s going to be spending a lot of her life there so might as well learn what she likes.

“Well, the first time we stopped in Doncaster, we were hungry and we ate at Cumberland and I fell in love with the place.” I’m sure my jaw just hit the table.

“Cumberland? That is one of my favorite places to eat!” Unbelievable.

“Oh. I just loved sitting on the patio and people watching while we ate. The food is amazing and everyone there is so nice. On my second visit on the way back from Leeds, we ordered out from Cumberland and went exploring. I found the most amazing estate that looked several hundred years old. It sits on about five acres and has so much character. I fantasized as to what it would look like if it was put in repair and restored. I was so sad last summer when I went back to admire it. Some idiot bought the property and locked down the grounds. Probably turning it into some trashy, cheap looking modern place.” Another shock to my system.

“Um, I would be that idiot,” I admit.

“You are kidding me!” Loren’s eyes look like they are going to pop out of her head.

“No, it’s the only property like it in all of Doncaster. You’ll be happy to know I am restoring it as opposed to turning it into a modern piece of trash,” I say while raising my eyebrows, “well, at least I know you won’t object to the house you will be living in a lot of the time. That’s one less thing we have to fight about.”

“This is unbelievable!” Harry shouts and his eyes are bugging out.

“I don’t know how this is even possible. You own that beautiful estate? I would have taken you for having a flat,” Loren says in barely more than a whisper.

“What? You think I’m a classless bloke just because I have long hair and tats?” Really, it’s a little hurtful to be judged like that. Okay, cut me a break. I know I’ve judged Loren on how she looks. Get over it.

“Um, no. I didn’t mean it like that. It just surprises me that you would get such a large, old place. You’re single and I didn’t take you for someone who would love old architecture.” She seems pretty genuine in her response, which calms me down and I give her a small smile.

“Apparently, I’m not single for long,” I raise an eyebrow at her, “I’ve always loved architecture. Not to study it, but just to appreciate it. It’s the best part of touring the world, getting to see so many fabulous sites and styles of architecture.”

“Yes. That’s what I loved about the time I’ve spent in London this past year. Taking in all the historic architecture there was my favorite past time.”

“Wait. You were in London? I thought you were at Cambridge?” I question.

“Yes, the last year of school I spent working for Barclay’s as an intern.” I’m sure the shocked look on my face surprised her. This is starting to freak me out.

“You worked at Barclay’s? Barclay’s is where I do my banking and manage my investments. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in there in the past year. Every break we got from touring or when we were working in London, I had a meeting with Kara Larsen. She-“

“Kara? You met with Kara? I worked for her in large commercial accounts. Wow, what a small world. It’s actually a little scary all these coincidences,” Loren makes her last comment almost absentmindedly.

“This is incredible! It’s like the two of you have been trailing all over England after each other. Jeez, maybe you’re supposed to be together!” Harry exclaims. Loren and I just look at each other, obviously neither of us knowing how to respond to Harry’s words. These revelations are a little shocking.

“This couldn’t have worked out any better if I planned it all out myself,” Alfonso says sounding a little astonished and pleased with himself.

We all sit in silence for a little bit taking in all the information we just learned about each other. Alfonso is the first to gain his composure and push the conversation onward.

“Well, we definitely have a lot to work with to make this story believable. As I see it, the story should be you two met at Leeds two years ago and thought nothing of it. When you met last year, you recognized each other and struck up a friendship. It would be completely believable that you met up with each other after the festival in Doncaster, which explains Loren’s knowledge of Louis’ estate and limited exposure to the area. You two kept in contact and would meet secretly when in London because you were both there at the same time. While Louis was away on tour, you text and snuck phone calls. Harry is the only one who has known about this relationship and covered for Louis. In fact, you can say this trip was planned as an excuse for Louis to be with Loren because she left England and returned to Monaco and he needed to be with her. Harry agreed to come along as the cover that it was a boys’ trip.” Alfonso whips out the story and the frightening thing is, he’s so convincing that I almost believe the story myself.

“That’s pretty impressive Dad. I have a couple of questions though. What was our reason for keeping this relationship secret?” Loren asks.

“Oh that’s easy. The press ruined Lou’s last two relationships. You can just say you were both terrified of the media ruining the relationship.” Harry blurts out and he is dead right. My last two relationships were ruined by the press and crazed fans. So, I would indeed go to great lengths to keep my private life private.

“I agree with Harry. That’s exactly what I would do,” I stated. Loren nods.

“Okay, and you would keep it from everyone besides Harry?” Loren asks me.

“Yes. Niall cannot keep a secret to save his life. Liam would lecture me on keeping things from the fans. Zayn would be fine, but my grandfather and sisters would have it all over Twitter.” I rationalize.

“But what about your mum?” She questions.

“Oh she’s going to be proper pissed at me. But, she recently had twins and is planning her own wedding. So, I’ll use that as my excuse for keeping it from her that I thought she had enough to deal with without having to keep my secret,” I explain.

“Well, you all seem to have an answer for everything. Let’s see how you do on the two biggest issues. How are you going to explain your sudden burning need to marry me and why you are with someone like me?” Her last question takes me by surprise. I wouldn’t have imagined Loren has esteem issues, but it’s a fair enough question. We don’t look like a couple.

“Well love, I imagine I will just have to say that with you gone from London and another world tour on the horizon, I just couldn’t live without you.”

“You’re insane Louis,” she scoffs.

“Apparently insane about you,” I joke and we all chuckle, “Lor, can I suggest something without offending you?” I’m scared to death how this will go over.

“You’ve offended me so many times, what’s one more?” She cracks a smile.

“Fonzi, no disrespect to you or your daughter, but Lor I have been thinking about that we do look a little mismatched. God, I sound like such an arse.” I hate what I’m about to say. Loren looks at me expectantly.

“Lou, you are an arse.” Harry sasses.

“Shut up Harold,” I glare at him. “Anyhow, what I was going to suggest is that with mum, my sisters, and Perrie coming perhaps the girls could all go shopping together and help Loren with an updated wardrobe and such,” I said nervously and waited for either Loren or Alfonso to go off on me.

“When you say ‘and such’, you mean a makeover. Don’t you Lou?” Loren asks. She saw right through me and I feel bad. A few hours ago, I wouldn’t have given it a second thought to insult her looks, but now it’s really bothering me to hurt her.

“If you’d like, then yes. I’d be happy to pay for whatever you’d like done.” I watch her and brace for her to start screaming. Her reaction was not what I was expecting. She started laughing loudly and Harry, Alfonso, and I looked at her like she was an escaped patient from a mental facility.

“Oh Lou that was probably the nicest way to tell someone they look like an ugly hag I’ve ever heard!” She continues to laugh.

“Lor, I did not say or imply that at all! It’s just. Ugh! I don’t want to insult you love. We,” I motion between Harry and myself, “live a lifestyle where we are out in the public eye. You are going to be part of that life. We have stylists constantly on us about our look. I just thought it might be easier for you if we got you used to this before the public gets wind of this engagement.” I let out a breath and pray I didn’t just start the next round of fighting.

“Relax Lou. You look like you are afraid I am going to stab you with my steak knife. I understand what you’re saying and I don’t deny it’s a good idea. I’m going to be humiliated and hated for marrying you by the press and your fans. It might be nice to feel a little fashionable. But, I’m not letting you pay for it. You’re already spending money on my new ring. I’m sure Dad won’t mind financing my new wardrobe since he’s the one who has kept me looking like a nun all this time,” Loren says with a smile and I hear Harry choke on his meal.

“What? Louis, you are buying her a ring?” Harry yells while he still recovers from his near death choking experience.

“Yes, what is this of a new ring?” Alfonso questions.

“I made a deal with Loren. If she wore Harlow for now, I would buy her a new engagement ring and then she could wear Harlow on her right hand since the ring means so much to her,” I say casually and Harry and Alfonso look at me in disbelief.

“Louis, that is very kind of you. See Harry, I told you he’s a better man than I was at his age,” Alfonso says and I have no idea what he’s talking about.

“Wow Lou, maybe you aren’t such an arse after all. Make sure to make him buy you a big rock Lor,” Harry jokes and I reach across the table and smack him upside the head. We all have a good laugh at his expense while he rubs the spot where I hit him.

“Okay, Loren do you have any other questions?” Alfonso asks and she shakes her head negatively. “Good, I think we have the story in enough order for now. Louis and Loren can work out the details as they go.” We all nod and return to eating.

Over the course of the next hour, we enjoyed a delicious five course meal. As we were finishing our dessert and sauterne, Sonja entered the room.

“Alfonso, the guests have just arrived. Mattheo showed them into the sitting room and I’m having the staff bring out platters and drinks for everyone right now,” Sonja says.

Suddenly, it hits me. Mum, the girls, and Perrie and the lads are here. I feel panic rise within me. Loren must sense it because she looks at me and grabs my hand.

“Lou, it will be okay. If we go down in flames, we go down together,” something about the way Loren says it actually calms me a little.

Alfonso rises and we all follow suit. As we leave the dining room, Harry speaks.

“It’s show time folks.”

Notes

Sorry if that drug on but we had to get the story straight.

So, we're finally going to see how Jay, the girls, and Perrie and the boys handle the news. Any predictions as to how they'll respond or what they'll do?

I'm so happy the story rating went back up to 10! Thank you all so much! :)
