My name is Brooklyn.
I live in The Meadows. Thats basically a nice name for 'orphanage for teenagers that nobody wants'
See, when most couples adopt, they adopt babies, or younger kids. Nobody wants to raise a screwed up teenager.
Well...there was one couple last year who were interested in adopting me. They would come to orphanage every Sunday and eat dinner with Molly and I. But when they told me they wanted to adopt me, I said no. I'm not sure why I did it, I just couldn't stand the way they treated me as if I was broken...
I guess you're probably wondering who Molly is.
Molly runs this place, she is like a mother to me. She's the only one that works here. But we don't need staff to work here, seeing as it's just me, and Molly. Occasionally we get more teenagers in here, but they all either run away at night, or leave when they are eighteen.
I've lived here for two years now. Since I was 15.
I guess the only reason I haven't run away yet, is simply because I'd have no where to run to.
The reason i'm even here is because my father used to abuse me. One day it got so bad, if the neighbor hadn't heard my scream and burst through our door, my father would have beat me to death.
Thats a touchy subject that I don't really like to talk about though.
I do online school now, because last year I got into a fight with this girl at my school.
I was never very popular in school, but I had a good group of friends.
Or so I thought.
I told my friends about my dad being in jail, and they ended up telling everyone in our grade.
Shelly, a bratty girl with a bad attitude, harassed me about it, and I just finally snapped and ended up punching her in the face.
All I remember after that, is being pulled off of her and seeing the blood pouring out of her nose.
Now, if youre wondering where my mother is, shes dead. She died while giving birth to me. All i know is my mother and father were deeply in love. He wasnt always such a monster. But that all changed when i was born, and she died.
The day he beat me up to the point of near death, was because I had went through his things, and found a picture of my mom.
All I really remember was him saying that it's my fault she is dead, and I shouldn't be alive.
My dad was sent to prison for attempted murder.
I was in the hospital suffering many injuries due to my father, after I recovered I was sent here.
The Meadows.
But I'm happy here.
One more year and I can leave here and live on my own.
Nothing is going to get in the way of me leaving here.
Nothing.
