Can't Remember to Forget You

Bonus Chapter

Many of you wanted me to do one more chapter, so here it is :) I hope you enjoy!

Four Years Later…

“Baby, please let me put on your jammies,” I sighed as Lyla ran away from me to go play with her toys.

“Can we just play, Mommy?” She pleaded with her irresistible brown, puppy dog eyes.

“Logan already has his on, can you be a good girl and let mommy put on yours?”

“I’m a good boy,” Logan said proudly.

I couldn’t help but laugh, “Yes, Logan, you are. Now if only your sister could be as good as you.”

I gave up and let the two three-year-olds play with their toys. Today had been a long day, and I was exhausted. Harry had been working late, so I was left to take care of our twins. Not that I minded—he rarely worked this late, but today, they sure were testing my limits seeing as I had them all to myself for the last twelve hours.

Just then, like a God-send, I heard the garage door open. The twins squealed with the knowledge that their daddy was home. They adored him more than anything.

“Chlo?”

“Up here!” I yelled.

Seconds later, Harry walked in to the playroom, making my mouth water, all dressed in his suit. “How was work, baby?”

“Long,” he groaned as he loosened his tie and removed his jacket. He sat down next to me on the floor and gave me a long kiss before playing with one of Logan’s toy cars. “What did you guys do today?”

“We went to the park, Daddy! I went down the slide all by myself!” Lyla beamed, running into Harry’s arms.

“Oh yeah? Hey, why aren’t you pajamas on, princess?”

Lyla quickly ran over to me and picked up the pink footie pajamas I had on my lap. “Can you help me, Mommy?”

I laughed at the fact that she would only listen to Harry and helped her change out of her play clothes and into the pajamas while Harry and Logan talked about playing at the park. It still put a smile on my face seeing him play with our children. He was a natural.

“There you go,” I kissed her cheek once I was finished. “Now go say goodnight to Daddy, it’s time for bed.”

An hour later, Harry and I retreated downstairs to wind down after a long day. He had changed into his sweats while I broke out a bottle of wine.

“I missed you today,” Harry said, taking my wine glass from my hand and setting it on the coffee table.

“I missed you, too,” I breathed as his lips pressed to my neck.

His lips continued their assault at my neck as his hands slid under my sweater and over my breasts. His thumbs worked the taut nipples through the fabric of my bra as his mouth covered mine, stifling my moans.

“I need you,” he groaned against my lips.

Harry quickly removed my sweater and pulled off my leggings before shoving down his sweatpants and boxers. He wasted no time positioning us so I was laying the long way on the couch with him hovering over me before he easily slid into me.

“Oh, baby, you always feel so good. So ready for me,” he groaned as he entered. “Always ready for me, Chloe.”

I scraped my nails down his shirt-clad back, stopping at the hem to pull it over his head. I needed to feel his skin on mine. “Oh, Harry, right there,” I moaned.

He thrust harder into me, his hands holding himself up at both sides of my face. “I love you so much.”

Just as a bead of his sweat dripped onto my cheek, I leaned up to kiss him deeply. I wasn’t a stranger to our frequent, passionate love-making, but it still made me tremble every time. Harry was the love of my life, and I’d never tire of being intimate with him.

“I love you, Harry,” I breathed against his lips.

“Fuck, I’m so close baby. Come with me,” he gritted out, sliding a hand down my body and holding onto my hip as he thrust in and out of me relentlessly. I was so close.

“Harry!” I moaned as I came; the pure ecstasy coursing through my warm body.

“Yes, Chloe,” he groaned as he released into me. He slid in and out of me a few more times, riding out both of our orgasms before falling onto his side next to me, burying his face into my neck.

I smiled and turned to my side to face him. “That was nice,” I teased. I noticed he didn’t smile at my joke, and frowned. “Hey, you okay?”

He nodded, burying his face further into my neck. “Are we still going to our parents tomorrow for dinner?”

“Yeah, why?”

He shrugged.

“Harry.” I took his face into my hands. “What’s going on? Did something happen today at work?”

He let out a long sigh before repositioning us so that my back was against his chest, and draped a blanket over us. He held me close as he began, “You don’t think your dad would mess around on my mum, do you?” he finally said quietly.

I turned back to face him and frowned. “Why would you ask that?”

I knew my dad had a history, but I wasn’t quite sure why Harry would bring this up.

“I saw him with some woman today at that restaurant by the office. Me and Dan went out for lunch, and I saw your dad meet up with her. They hugged, and they looked pretty… I don’t know, I’m probably just imagining things.”

“What did she look like?” I found myself asking. I was hoping this was all just one big misunderstanding because I could not handle it if Dad was cheating on Anne.

Harry shrugged, fingering a loose ringlet of my hair. “She had long, brown hair and looked like she was his age or a little older. I don’t know, I didn’t recognize her though.”

“Do you think he would?” I asked, now feeling doubtful.

“I hope not,” he whispered. “They just looked like they knew each other well… and after she left, I went over to say hi to him, he acted weird. Fuck, if he’s pulling this shit again, Chlo…”

“Hey,” I whispered. “Let’s not jump to conclusions… I’ll talk to him tomorrow when we go over there for dinner, okay? I’m sure it’s just an old friend or something.”

I wasn’t quite convinced that that was the case myself, but I had to have some faith. Something like this could tear apart our family, and I really couldn’t go through the heartache again. If Dad was cheating on Anne, I wouldn’t be able to forgive him this time.

“Okay,” he nodded, pulling me closer to him. “I love you, Chloe, you know that?”

“I know,” I nodded.

“And I would never cheat on you,” he whispered. “I’d never do that to you, you believe me right?”

My heart tightened at the fact that he thought he needed to tell me that. “I believe you, Harry. I’ve never doubted you.”

After that, the mood lightened up as we turned on a movie and cuddled up on the couch. There were few things I loved more than winding down after a long day with my amazing husband.

I woke up the next morning when I felt the blankets being pulled off of me. My eyes slowly adjusted to the light before I saw Logan climbing on Harry and I’s tall bed by grabbing onto the covers.

“Hey little man,” I smiled and helped him up.

“Hi Mommy, can I sleep with you and Daddy until Lyla gets up?” I nodded and lifted him so he was laying between Harry and I. “Ly always gets to sleep in between you and Daddy.”

“Well now you can,” I told him, pulling the sheets back over us.

By now, Harry had woken from our voices. “What are you doing in here?” he teased Logan before tickling him.

Logan’s giggles put a smile on my face. He was Harry’s mini-me with brown curly hair and beautiful green eyes. My heart melted just looking at my son.

“Morning, baby,” Harry smirked, pulling the blanket over Logan’s head so he could kiss me.

“Morning,” I giggled.

“Hey!” Logan laughed, popping his head our from under the covers. “Daddy, you should get a picture of a monster truck on your tummy under the butterfly!” he said, pointing at Harry’s naked torso.

Harry chuckled. “I just might. Or maybe I can get Woody from Toy Story.”

“I love that movie! That would be so cool.”

“Mommy?”

I turned and saw Lyla with her long, curly light brown hair sticking to her face from sleep with her purple blankie, standing by the bed.

“Morning, baby,” I held out my arms to lift her onto the bed. “Did you sleep okay?”

“Yeah, but Bear had a nightmare.”

I tried not to smile at her reference to her stuffed animal having a bad dream. “Did he?”

She nodded her little head. “He’s okay though.”

“That’s good,” I smiled.

She and Logan fought for who got to lay by who for a few minutes while Harry and I talked about our plans for the day. Since it was Saturday, we planned on eating breakfast and heading out to the beach before it was time to go to our parent’s house.

Our conversation was cut short, though, when Lyla began to cry.

“What happened?” Harry asked her, sitting up and pulling her onto his lap.

“Logan hit me,” she cried.

“I didn’t!” Logan began to cry. “You hit me Ly!”

I picked up Logan and got off the bed. I knew keeping them together would only make things worse. “Come on, Log, wanna help Mommy make pancakes for breakfast?”

“Yeah!” he instantly brightened up.

I brought him down to the kitchen while Harry calmed down Lyla down; I knew she was in good hands.

A few minutes later, Logan was sitting on the island counter mixing pancake batter while I turned on the stove and began cutting up some strawberries.

Harry came down with a giggling Lyla riding on his back a little later. “Can we help, Mommy?” Lyla asked, her tears completely gone.

“Of course, sweetie. Do you want to help Daddy set the table?”

She nodded eagerly and made Harry bring her over to the cabinet where the plates are. I knew the twins wouldn’t enjoy helping me with breakfast for much longer, so I had to take advantage while it lasted.

The rest of the day went by smoothly. After breakfast we changed and walked across the street to the beach where we spent half the day playing in the water and making sandcastles. Once we ate the lunch I packed, we swam for a little longer before heading back home to get ready for dinner with our parents. I was a little nervous to confront my dad, but I had to. I wouldn’t let him hurt Anne like he had my mom.

Harry dressed the twins while I showered and got ready myself. I was just finishing blowdrying my hair when Lyla came and pulled at the hem of my knee-length dress.

“Mommy, can we go swimming at Grandma and Grandpa’s house?”

I laughed and picked her up so she was sitting on the bathroom counter. “Lyla, we just swam all day!”

“I know but I want to go again!”

Her smile was so contagious I shook my head. I knew in a few years that little grin would get Harry and I in trouble, but for now, I gave in. “All right. Go tell Daddy to pack your swimsuit,” I told her as I lifted her off the counter. "And tell him that it’s time to go!”

“Okay Mommy, thanks!” She squealed and ran back to where Harry was getting Logan ready.

A few minutes later, we were all buckled in to Harry’s Range Rover to head over to our parents place. It was only a street over, but we knew better than to think our kids would want to walk home later after a long day of swimming and playing.

“I’m hungry!” Logan whined from the back seat. I was beginning to forget what life was like before we had kids, and there was actually peace and quiet every once in awhile.

“We’re almost there, buddy,” Harry said, reaching his arms back to pat Logan’s leg. “Grandma’s making your favorite noodles.”

“Yes! Do you think Grandpa will go swimming with us?”

“You’ll have to ask,” I told him with a smile. He adored his grandpa just as much as he did his dad.

“Yeah! Then he can throw us in the air!” Lyla added. The kids giggled about what they were going to play in the pool until we pulled up to the familiar house. So many memories were held in this home, and each time it was hard not to be thankful for everything that has become of my life.

“You go change them into their swimsuits, and I’ll talk to my Dad,” I whispered to Harry.

“Okay,” he nodded, an uncertain expression washing over his handsome face.

Everyone quickly hugged and said their hello’s before Anne retreated back to the kitchen to finish dinner and Harry had the kids in the backyard. I had no idea how I’d even bring up what I needed to talk about to my dad, but I knew it had to be done.

We sat alone in the living room while I tried to gain the courage to say something. I mean, it wasn’t the easiest thing in the world talking to your father about him potentially cheating on his wife. t think Dad knew I was a bit uncomfortable, seeing as he asked me if I was okay several times.

“Dad, can we talk?” I finally asked.

“Yeah, sure sweetheart. What’s up?” he said as he lowered the volume on the baseball game that was playing on the television.

Just then, the doorbell rang. Saved by the bell.

“Hold that thought, Chlo,” he stood up. “Let me get that real quick.”

I waited nervously, trying to prepare my words when I heard a woman’s voice greeting my father followed by the words, “is she here?”

My heart began to pulse faster, my hands clammed up. Dad is cheating on Anne, and she’s here. Is she crazy coming around here!

I heard my dad say, “yeah, she’s in the other room. Are you sure about this?”

I could barely breathe. Was Dad about to introduce Anne to his mistress? Oh God. I hope Harry and the kids don’t come inside and witness this.

“Dave, I’m nervous.”

I stood up after those words of hers and decided I needed to put an end to this before anyone else got hurt. This was not okay.

I marched myself into the foyer where Dad was standing next to a tall, older woman that looked to be about his age. I tried to remember the woman Harry described to me, but my mind was so jumbled that I couldn’t.

The woman gasped when she saw me, causing Dad to turn around to see what forced her reaction. He looked nervous as he ran a hand through his short salt and pepper hair.

“Chloe, sweetheart, you remember your aunt Bev?”

I frowned in confusion before I finally put the pieces together. “Aunt Bev?” I whispered, taking her appearance in one more time.

“Hi Chlo,” she smiled shyly. “I’ve missed you.”

A tear rolled down my cheek once I recognized the woman standing before me. I hadn’t seen my aunt Bev since before my mother died. She was her only sister, and had helped me take care of her when she first got sick, up until she got offered a job in Europe that was too amazing to pass up.

“Look at you, all grown up,” she smiled, a tear rolling down her own cheek. She walked over to me and pulled me into her arms. “It’s good to see you, baby girl.”

After catching up for a few minutes, we were summoned back into the dining room for dinner. Apparently she and Anne had been talking over the phone, so they got on quickly. I didn’t know why or how my aunt Bev was here, but I didn’t question it. I was so glad to see the woman that reminded me so much of my own mother, and have a little piece of home back in Arizona with me.

Anne called out the back door for Harry to round up the twins for dinner as the rest of us sat around the table. I got up to go help Harry change the kids, knowing I needed to catch him up on what was going on inside before he walked into the dining room confused as hell.

“Hi baby, did you have fun swimming?” I asked Logan as I wrapped him up in his monster truck towel.

He nodded eagerly as he let me pick him up to bring him inside. I briefly hoped he would stay this small little boy forever.

“Harry,” I whispered once we were in the guest room on the main floor changing the twins back into their clothes. He looked at me as he pulled on Lyla’s shirt. “My aunt Bev is here.”

“Like your mum’s sister?”

“It’s mom, Dad!” Lyla giggled, wriggling around as he tried to brush her hair.

We couldn’t help but laugh every time she corrected him. “Yes!”

“How are you feeling about that?” he asked, knowing it must have brought up a lot of emotions for me.

“Amazing, really. I can’t wait for you to meet her. She reminds me so much of my mom.”

“Well I’m glad you’re happy, baby,” Harry said sincerely before leaning down to kiss me.

“Can we eat noodles now. Please!” Logan begged, jumping up and down on the bed in front of me.

“Yes, sweetie.” I picked up Logan while Harry grabbed Lyla, and we made way towards the dining room.

Harry stopped walking in front of me, causing Logan and I to run into his back. “Babe, what was that for?” I laughed while Logan giggled.

“That’s her,” he stated, looking down the hall and into the dining room.

Her?” I questioned.

“The woman I saw your dad with yesterday.”

“That’s my aunt Bev,” I told him. I had forgotten all about what Harry had told me yesterday once I was reunited with Bev. Now, everything was starting to make more sense, and a feeling of relief washed over me.

“So he was just meeting with your aunt,” Harry sighed in relief. “Oh God, you don’t know how happy I am to hear that.”

I smiled reassuringly and caressed his cheek with my free hand. “Everything’s all right. Let’s go enjoy our dinner with our family.”

Harry nodded and smiled before planting a soft kiss to my lips, earning disgusted sounds from the kids. We laughed as we joined everyone for dinner.

“Hey sweetheart, what are you doing up here?”

I turned around to see my dad standing in the doorway of my old bedroom, smiling at me. “Just thinking.”

“Care to share?” He sat down on the bed with me and looked around the room that had barely changed since the day I moved out all those years ago.

“You wouldn’t cheat on Anne, would you?” There. I said it.

Dad tensed, but then sighed. “No, Chloe. I wouldn’t. I know I’ve had made a bad record for myself, but things have changed. Now tell me what’s got you asking me that? That's what you were going to talk to me about earlier, wasn't it?”

I nodded. “Harry saw you and Aunt Bev yesterday and thought that maybe… He didn’t know that she was my aunt, and he was worried you were…”

“Oh,” he said, “I can see why he might have thought that. But I can promise you, Chloe, I would never.”

“I know. It just scared me a little, that’s all.” I didn’t want to talk about this anymore now that I knew it was all just a misunderstanding. “So tell me how you got in contact with aunt Bev. I thought she was living in Europe still?”

“She called me actually. She recently moved back to Arizona, and was looking for you. She wanted to surprise you tonight, so that’s why I didn’t mention it to Harry yesterday.”

I nodded, still trying to process this all. “Well thank you for inviting her tonight. It was really good seeing her. I just wish Mom were here too…”

“I know, sweetheart,” he sighed, wrapping his arm around my shoulder. “But for now, Bev is here for a couple weeks, and it’ll be good for you to catch up some more. Stay positive, Chloe.”

Just as I was about to tell him that was easier said than done, Harry knocked on the doorframe to announce his presence. “Hey,” he said, noticing I was feeling a bit somber.

“I’ll give you two some privacy,” Dad said before kissing my forehead and heading for the door. “I believe I owe my grandkids some ice-cream.”

Once Dad was downstairs, Harry closed the door behind him and sat with me on my old bed. “Forgot how comfy this thing was.”

“Probably because we broke it in so well,” I laughed, nudging his side.

Harry pulled me back so we were both laying against the pillows. “We had a lot of good nights in here, didn’t we?”

“Hmmm,” I hummed against his chest as I nodded. I felt like we were eighteen again, and Harry had just snuck over to my room after our parents went to bed.

“How are you doing, baby? Tell me what you’re thinking.”

“I was just thinking about my mom…” Harry pulled me closer to him, holding his arms tighter around me. “But I was also thinking about how grateful and blessed I am. I couldn’t have dreamed of a better life, Harry. Even though I wish she was here to meet you, and to see Logan and Lyla grow up, I’m really just thankful for what I do have. I remember being so angry about her death, but lately, all I can think of is how grateful I am that the situation led me to you.”

Harry kiss my forehead. “I wish I could meet her too, and that she could see the twins grow up. But I’m glad you’re finally at peace with this, Chloe. I love seeing you smile and be happy, and I don’t want anything making my girl upset.”

“I love you so much, Harry.”

“I love you more, baby. Forever.”

Just then, Lyla and Logan came running into the room with sticky hands and ice cream all over their faces. “What are you guys doing up here? Grandpa gave us ice cream and Bev was showing us cool games on her phone!”

“We’re just talking bud,” Harry informed Logan, pulling him so he was laying between us. I did the same with our daughter.

“Mommy, that Bev girl is pretty. How do we know her?” Lyla’s sweet little voice asked.

“She’s my aunt, so your great aunt,” I told her even though she probably wouldn’t understand.

“Well I like her. Can we see her again?”

“Yeah, baby.”

“She’s pretty like you, Mommy,” Logan added in.

“Isn’t Mommy so pretty?” Harry said, enticing little nods from the twins. “You’re pretty, Chloe.”

“Isn’t Daddy, pretty?” I teased.

“No!” Lyla yelled. “Daddy’s handsome!” She corrected me, making Harry and I laugh.

“Yeah! And I’m going to be handsome like Daddy when I grow up! I’ll have pictures all over my body, too!”

I didn’t even want to imagine all of the hearts our little curly-haired, green-eyed boy would be breaking by the time he was sixteen.
