…. Hours Later ….
Niall tried to calm my senses, but it was hard for me to swallow and move on. Helen called me, to inform me I should pass by her office; literally I wasn’t feeling that I have the will to work. I lost my focus from the moment that Zayn left, the image of him running out of my house, filling his sobs in my hollow walls, was hunting my memory in a play back rhythm. I broke him, just like he once did… But I never even wanted that to happen, not now, not with his change of character.
He became the reason that I look forward of waking up every day. I miss his shy stutter, his natural care and worry whenever he sensed I was nervous or sad, I miss his honey jewels glancing at me; tracking each movement I might do. His presence was making my confidence flow naturally, but now that he left; he made me turn back to the insecure girl I once was at the age of 17…
I told Helen to come over instead, claiming Niall’s visit as my reason to not being able to leave. I sat on the couch, embracing my waist with both my hands; where his hands last touched me. I held my waist stronger, hoping I would feel his touch again in my empty life. “Darling, please calm down. Do you want me to make you something to drink or eat? Have you eaten in the first place?” Niall rubbed my shoulder, trying to sooth me, but I wasn’t feeling like replying. Why should I eat? Why should I drink? All I need is to see him; his smile alone will make me survive to eternity.
“Cheer up, please. Liam is coming; that will make you happy, right? Vick, please talk to me?” I sighed, staring at a focus point on the rigid ceramic floor. “(I spoke in an emotionless tone.) Niall, I want to be alone… I’ve always been alone, but then he came back to my life to fill it… and now, he left me to be alone again… Do I deserve this?” He exhaled, draping his shoulder over mine, and make me come closer to him. “Don’t say that, it’s just a little misunderstanding. He just needs time to open up, and understand the reality in front of him. You didn’t do anything wrong, you just didn’t want to bring back any bad memories; and I understand that clearly. It’s neither of your faults, you both need to cool off, and that’s it.” As soon as Niall finished his talk, multiple footsteps walked into the living room.
Niall and I looked up, and I saw both Liam and Helen in the room. I’ve always felt that Liam was the one that could be the conscience voice in me; he was just really mature for his age. I hugged Liam, and offered him a seat in silence; Helen on the other hand, sat down on her own. She wasn’t being rude; she’s just used to being around my place, more than the boys. “What’s wrong with you?” She spoke in curiosity, rather than worry. When I leaned my head on Niall’s shoulder and avoided to reply; she exhaled her intensity.
“Stop with the childish acts this instant, Victoria. Do you want to do this meeting that your career might be affected from, or just lie there acting like a fragile person?” Her words were hurtful, because I expected her to be a little more humane to my situation. But, I suppose she’s right, I shouldn’t throw my life on a stop sign, I have a career and people to make happy, but still I was bothered by her approach in speech.
“Hey! Ease off her back, alright? She needs time to relax.” Liam snapped at Helen, making the middle aged woman silence her vocals. “(I spoke in a low tone, moving my head from Niall’s shoulder.) Liam, its fine. Helen is right, I need to focus on work; I have people depending on me…” He looked at me in sincerity, and nodded slowly. “Helen, let’s do this meeting in the back garden. Meet me there; I’ll just go to the bathroom first.” She stood up, and walked outside, while I excused myself from the two guys.
