Runaway thief...
No Time
I slammed my foot down on the accelerator the car speeding forward, pushing me into the back of my seat. The rush of the wind spilled in through the open window, and made it hard for me to keep my breath. A corner was coming up and I knew because I was on the outside Nicole would have an advantage, I was going to have to think fast. I couldn't let her win, who knows what she would make me do if I lost. There had to be a reason for doing this; other than either killing me or Harry.
I pressed down even harder on the pedal, and I could see the front of my car slowly edging in front of Nicole's, she clearly didn't like this, so swerved over bumping the side of the car. I swung over a bit so as to avoid her trying to push me off the road, and sped up. Eventually I over took her and spun round the corner, taking the lead.
It felt like my heart was about to pulse out of my chest, as I reached nearly 90 mph. Thankfully it was quiet in this side of town, and I didn't need to worry about people wanting to cross. Although up ahead I could see some traffic lights, meaning I would have to make a choice; to stop, or speed through a possible red light risking a crash, and making my loss certain. Loss of the race, and my life.
I could hear Nicole's engine behind me, and I panicked imagining her ramming in to me and sending me and the car on to the pavement. I tried to speed up, but the car was not cooperating. I was going fast, but not fast enough. The lights up ahead were turning red, and I knew if I was going to be smart and stop, I would have to do it soon.
I slammed my feet on the break, Nicole speeding of ahead of me. I could almost hear her laughter as I re-thought my decision. I slowed down, and watched as she went straight through the red light. I knew what was coming, and closed my eyes as a giant lorry came through the lights in the direction that was supposed to be going.
It was as if sound had stopped in shock, as I saw Nicole's car, three other cars, and the lorry collide. Flames burst up, and I started the engine desperate to help someone. I pulled up next to the crash, and burst out the car door. Running I bumped into another man who was also trying to help. I heard the cries of a child, and searched the scene for a sign of them. I caught sight of someone waving their arms around in pain, and I jumped over some flaming rubber as I grabbed the persons hand. The heat from their skin burnt mine, and I cried out in pain, but bit my lip as I reached for the other hand of the person trapped in the car.
They were thankfully quite light and I pulled them out, and carried them out of the flames of the car, and laid them down on the pavement. I looked down at the person lying there, and scanned their charred body. They were not wearing much, and when I extinguished the last flame, I saw who it was. Nicole. I had saved Nicole, of all the people. Although she barely had any Nicole left, the flames had burnt her skin all over, and left her a coal black peeling mess. Any clothing she was wearing had gone, and now she lay there naked. I pulled my jacket of and reached in the bag I had brought with me for anything else that could cover her. I had some shorts and a scarf.
Wrapping the scarf around her lower body, I winced at the sight of her now distorted skin that was coated in a black layer of a tar like substance. The smell of burning flesh filled my nose and tumbled down my throat, causing me to choke. Then a pair of strong hands pulled me away, and I watched as paramedics surrounded Nicole. I turned to see a Fireman, tall and burly.
"Hun you need to get yourself home, thank you for your help, but this site is no longer safe for you, please may you leave"
"Ok, make sure she's ok, and anyone else who got hurt"
"We will try our best" I nodded, then turned to walk back to the car. As I returned to the car I took a quick glance back at the scene. I watched as someone carried Nicole and another man in to an ambulance on stretchers. I dont like her, but no one deserves that even if it was her fault. I said a quick pray, wishing her better.
