Beautiful Dreams Of Irish Green

Two

The next morning my Aunt was cooking breakfast and my cousin was working.
“Your grandmother already left with your Uncle John,” My Aunt said. Then she turned to look at me. “Someone is eager to get out this morning.”
“I just had such a nice day yesterday, I want to get as much exploring done as I possibly can before I go home,” I said as I grabbed a piece of bread before running out the door.
I walked to the cafe and saw through the widow Nick sitting there tapping his fingers against the table. He had a beanie on and sunglasses.
I walked in and he got up and smiled.
“Told you, I’d see you soon,” He said.
“Well, you’re holding my journal hostage,” I pointed out. He went in his messenger bag and retrieved it for me as we sat down.
“I’ll give it back,” He said as I reached for it but he pulled away taking of his sunglasses,”You have to play twenty questions with me.”
I huffed and sat back, “Go.”
“What’s your full name?” He asked
“Penelope Patriese Driver, what about you?”
“I’m asking the questions!” He said.
“Sorry,” I smiled.
“What kind of music do you listen to?” He asked.
“When I have time, I listen to anything I like. Recently it’s just been The Killers,” I said and he smiled at me. “What?” I asked.
“Nothing, are you enjoying Ireland?” he asked me and his accent just danced off of his tongue.
“I am. I love how it’s easier to breathe here then it is in the City,” I said.
“I know, sometimes it seems like everything here is just right compared to all the other places in the world,” He said looking at the table.
“Do you travel a lot?” I asked him.
“Yea, I have been travelling since I was sixteen. I’m actually going to Paris in a few days.” He told me.
I found myself upset hearing that he was leaving in a few days to go somewhere else. Though I just met him, he seemed familiar.
“Why?” I asked
“I thought I was the one asking questions,” He said.
“I’m just trying to get to know you. I don’t want to be “Taken” and be sold to some random guy as a sex slave, ya know?” He laughed at this and put his hands up in defense.
“Fair enough. My friends and I are in a band.”
“So you are that guy from One Direction?” I asked jokingly.
“It’s my turn to ask,” He said. “What do you do for fun?”
I had to stop and think about this.
“I’m on student council, I’m captain of the volleyball team, I play the violin,” I told him.
He raised an eyebrow at me. “That is your idea of fun?”
“What’s yours?”
“Well I sing and play guitar, but when I’m not doing that I like to do nothing. I mean who likes doing things when they’re not being forced?” I put his leg over the other other and leaned back. Two girls came over to the tables nervously. One nudged her friend.
“Hi Niall, we were wondering,” The younger one said in a thick irish accent, “Can we have you- your autograph?” They shook as they handed him a pen and a picture of that One Journey band.
“Sure girls,” He smiled. He took the pen and wrote really fast and handed it back to them. They both blushed and ran out.
“I thought you weren’t part of that band?” I asked.
He just shrugged his shoulders.
“Are you?” I asked him.
“Does it matter if I am?” He said to me.
“Is your name really Nick?” I asked and he just smiled.
“It’s Niall. Niall Horan.” He said.
“My name is really Mackenzie,” I said jokingly and he laughed.
“Funny,” He said sarcastically. “So, now do you want my autograph?”
“I’m just dying to meet a singer from One Way!” I gushed.
“Direction,” He corrected as he took a sip of his water.
“Same thing,” I swatted the air.
He shook his head and he handed me back my journal.
“I like the way you describe the barista in County Westmeath, his name is Joe by the way,” He says with a thick accent.
My eyes widen.
“I told you not to read this.”
I felt my cheeks turn red and my chest rise and fall quickly.
“Calm down, lass.” He said to me. “I only read the last page about, Joe. Who by the way is very nice.”
My phone started to ring and I took it out, it was my grandmother.
“Hello?” I said.
“Penny, dear. Where are you?” She asked me. She sounded worried.
“I’m at the cafe in town. Why? Are you alright?” I asked her.
“Yes, Yes. I’m fine. Your mother has been trying to reach you for about an hour,” She told me.
“Okay, I’ll call her. Love you mum,” I said to her.
I looked up at Niall who was looking at his phone very intensley.
“Excuse me,” I said to him as I got up to step outside of the cafe.
I called my mom and she answered after to rings.
“Hello sweetie, are you okay?” She said.
“Yea, I’m sorry. My phone was on silent. How are you?”
“I’m okay,” She let out a breath. Which meant she was about to tell me something.
“What’s going on?” I asked her.
“Well, I’m going to be in Paris tomorrow and I want you to meet me there. They have a fashion gala and Marc Jacobs needs me to help him redesign his apartment. So this will be the perfect opportunity for us to get together before you start your senior year!” She said.
“Yea, sure mom. How long will you be staying in Paris?” I asked her.
“Um, I don’t know the answer to that,” She said sounding distracted. She was probably signing papers or sketching. “But I’ll be seeing you in the two days, I’ll email you all the info. I love you Penelope.” She blew kisses in the phone. I blew one back. “Ta-ta darling,” She said.
“Bye mom,” I told her as I hung up.
I looked up at the sky. This was the Irish sky. In a few days it would be a Paris Sky.

~

Niall looked up at me when I got back in the cafe.
“Bad news?” He asked.
“What makes it obvious?” I said.
“It’s all over your face,” He pointed out.
“My mom wants me to meet her in Paris in the next few days for some fashion gala,” I rolled my eyes. “It’s bad enough I have to leave Ireland. Now I get to spend all of my time around emaciated looking women.”
He looked at me like he just got a great idea.
“I’m going to Paris in a few days too!” He said.
“So?”
“So... You come to our show in Paris and I’ll come to that gala with you,” He said.
“Um, I get that you want to hang out and all but isn’t that public?”
“It’s me saving you from a night of boredom and sequins and you coming to enjoy some new music,” He smiled.
“I remember what happened when Selena and Justin starting going to public places together... I’m not looking for a death threat. Plus, I’m about to start my senior year of high school, right now I’m not looking for anything. Especially with someone who isn’t eve as consistent as money,” I said
“Then let’s be friend, Penny.”
I liked the Idea of being friends with Niall. It seemed like something spontaneous. Something I didn’t quite know what would be the outcome but I was ready for it.
