Just the Friend

-DYLANS POV-
I couldn’t breathe. Why the fuck is he here? He needs to leave. Like now.
“Angel? Are you okay, what hap-,” Ashton stood up from the couch and took a step towards me. In all honesty, I’m not really sure what was wrong with me at that moment. My heart became in control of my body rather than my brain and my heart was hurt. I was hurt. My heart was telling me to blame Ashton for this whole fiasco. It was his fault he didn’t tell me this sooner. I wouldn’t have fallen in love with Louis, I would have been with him, and I wouldn’t be stuck in the situation where I have to pick between my long time best friend who I always thought I might have a little something for and the best boyfriend I have ever had.
So before I could stop myself, I ran. I ran out of my house, and down the street. My legs were moving almost as fast as the tears were streaming down my cheeks. My adrenaline was pumping so high that I forgot about my hurt ankle. My main focus was getting far away as fast I could.
I just kept going...
and going…
and going…
When I felt like my lungs could take no more I slowed down and took a look at my surroundings.
Where am I?
I was clearly on the outskirts of Sydney. I ran that far? People were walking in every direction and I was standing in the middle of a large crowd on the corner of a street. Tall buildings were covering the sky and car horns were blaring.
And that’s when I realized, that I was completely and totally lost. To make thing worse, the adrenaline was quickly flooded out of me and the throbbing pain in my leg was getting worse by the second. I pushed through people and limped into the nearest alley way between a skyscraper and a barber shop. It was quite dark, and a little chilly, but quiet and that is exactly what I needed to let everything out.
I was lost in the city.
I had no one.
No cell phone service.
Ashton is in love with me.
I love Louis.
Do I love Ashton?
Of course I love Ashton but am I ­in love with Ashton?
I honestly don’t know.
I have so many good memories with Ashton. But I feel like I have known Lou forever and I only just met him weeks ago.
The pain in my ankle makes me drowsy and my vision starts to blur as my eyes close. I slump over and lay on the ground, not really caring about the dirt with the state I’m in.

FLASHBACK

“What do you mean you are going with someone else!?” I yell at my senior prom date over the phone.
My brother’s head shoots up from where he was sitting on the couch.
“Oh yeah? Well then you have fun with that bitch and don’t speak to me ever again you prick!” I throw my phone onto the other couch and plop onto the cushion, my poofy prom dress crinkling under me.
“I don’t want to hear it Ry. You told me so, I know.”
Ryan, looking angry as ever, stomped upstairs shaking his head and grumbling under his breath. I groan and stand up, heading into the kitchen, where I open the freezer and grab a tub of ice cream and a giant spoon.
I bounce back onto the main couch in front of the tv and turn it on while switching it to my favorite movie: the last song. It’s a good movie okay don’t judge!
Opening the ice cream tub, I take a big spoonful and stuff it into my mouth, not really caring if I get a brain freeze or not. I deserve it. I can’t even keep a prom date, much less a boyfriend.
I don’t know how long I was sitting on that couch, 30 minutes maybe, before my door bell rang. I groaned and stood up, stumbling a little when I realize I still had those damn heels on. I stepped out of them as the doorbell rang again.
“Shut up! Jesus I am coming!” I yell at whoever was behind the door. Still holding the big spoon, I swing the door open and the frown on my face was wiped off faster than you could say boob.
“Hey gorgeous. Sorry I am late, it took forever to find a place that had corsages!” Ashton sends me his award winning smile as he stands on my doorstep in a tux.
I drop my spoon and run into his arms.
“What are you doing here!? I thought you were on tour right now!”
“I came home this morning and was going to surprise you tomorrow morning when you woke up but your brother called me and told me that Anthony ditched you so here I am. Ash to the rescue.” I look up at him with my chin on his chest. He kissed my forehead then let go of me.
“So you ready to go to this prom thing? You look stunning by the way. Is that the dress you sent me?” Ash asks then grabs my hand and makes me twirl as I giggle and nod at my best friend’s silliness.
“Grab your shoes and lets go Angel. You don’t want to be late for your senior prom!”
“I missed you a shit load, you know that right?” I ask him as we climb into his car.
“Not near as much as I missed my little Angel.” He sends a cheeky grin my way and starts his car.
He made that night one of the best in my whole life.

END OF FLASHBACK

I woke up a little bit to the feeling of being picked up. Normally I would be afraid but as soon as I smelled his cologne I snuggled into his chest more.
“What am I going to do with you my little Angel.” He grumbles as he walks. He is my super hero, like always.
Ash to the rescue.
