Case 1357 (Harry Styles)
Cold (part two)
"I guess this is the house."
Both looked through the window and Claire nodded.
"You should come. I mean, if you want."- She smiled shyly and looked down.
"I'll be here, don't worry."- Harry raised eyebrows and laughed.-"I guess your boy's waiting for you."
Ryan was jumping back and forth in front of the house because it was so cold outside. He had been there for a long time, maybe twenty minutes, but that was a normal thing for him. Claire was always late.
"He's not my..."
Harry interrupted her."Go and have fun! He's probably freezing."
Claire got really upset and if her eyes were a weapon at that moment, the angry look in then could have probably kill him. She got out of the car, without saying anything and ran towards Ryan.
"I thought you've changed your mind."
"I'm here, so let's go inside!"
She stormed her way through the crowd, pushing everything and everyone in her path. Slamming her hands down onto the table she said,"Give me something that will make me forget."
"You want the "storm"?"- A tall guy asked, smiling at her.
"I don't care what it is. Storm, tornado, tsunami, make me something!"
Ryan was standing next to her and didn't stop her. Something went so wrong, she was trying to destroy herself and everything in her life.
"Claire, what are you doing?"- He managed to speak.
"Having fun. So drink or leave."
Ryan looked at her and couldn't believe that this person was Claire. She seemed so different, but what she was trying to prove? Shot after shot, they were stronger than she thought.
"My head is spinning."- She told Ryan, putting her hand on his chest.
"You're drunk. I'll take you home."
"Nooo, my babysitter is here. I mean Harry, don't worry!"
Ryan was confused, but didn't take her words seriously because she was just a drunk teenager. He took only two shots, but that was enough to make his head dizzy.
"I'll be right back, don't move! Gonna grab my jacket."
Claire nodded, watching him go away. She had this crazy idea in her head, but wasn't sure about it at all. It was too dangerous and her father or Harry would probably kill her.
"Whatever."- She shouted and laughed.-"Let's play a game."
She looked around and saw that Ryan wasn't close, so she got up and approached the door. Claire couldn't feel the ground beneath her feet, she felt like flying. Seconds later she was in the backyard, it was too cold to be outside without a jacket. She thought,"Who cares? I'm a free and young woman!". Claire spun around and then started running. It wasn't a good idea, but she kept running and running until she found herself in front of the cold ground, as she called it, with thousands of dead bodies. Her mother's grave was right in the middle. Claire's steps were silent, but still too noisy for this place. She slowly leaned forward and moved the withered leaves away from the gravestone.
"I'm here, mommy, even though you aren't."
Ryan got back to see that his friend was gone. He looked around, but couldn't see her.
"Claire?"- He shouted, but no one answered.
He started running around, checked every room, asked everyone, but she was gone.
"Oh, God. I have to find Harry."
Ryan ran outside and approached Harry's car, explaining everything to him.
"I knew that I shouldn't let her alone."- He put hands on his head, trying to make a plan.
Harry got in his car and started driving around the town.
"Where are you, Claire? Where are you?"- He was trying to call her for the ninth time.
A quiet voice answered and Harry's heart started beating faster.
"Where are you? Are you okay?"- He spoke fast.
"Now you care. The babysitter lost the baby."- Claire laughed, she was speaking really slow.
"Claire, I'm not kidding, where are you?"
"I'm lying here with my dead friends."
She hung up, leaving him speechless. "What does that mean?", he thought. Harry kept repeating those words, trying to figure out the secret meaning.
"The cemetery."- He shouted and turned his GPS on to find it.
Harry parked the car in front of it and got out fast, looking around. He started running, but then froze in place, when he saw a figure on the ground. Harry went closer, he was so scared.
Claire was unconscious, her body cold.
"Hey, wake up. Babe, please... Wake up!"- He begged.
Harry lifted her into his arms and carried her into the car. He drove fast, it was important to stay quiet because he didn't want to wake everyone in the house. He entered her room, Claire's body was still in his arms. He laid her on the bed, joining her, and wrapped arms around Claire, trying to give all his warmth.
Minutes later she pulled away, meeting Harry's eyes. Both stayed silent, both didn't know what to say or what to do. Claire got up fast and started walking back and forth. Harry approached her, but kept a distance.
"You can't do this anymore..."- He tried to say something.
"What?"- She turned around to face him.
"I won't let you destroy yourself, Claire."
"You won't let me? Why is everybody so worried about me, but doesn't ask what I want?"- She shouted.
"What do you want?"- He whispered.
He tried desperately to distract himself from the pain he felt. He knew that she didn't mean it.
"I told you already that I'm not leaving, Claire."
"But I don't want you here, okay?"
"You're drunk, just go to bed!"
"I don't want you!"- She yelled, obviously trying to wake everyone in this house.
"Shhh!"- He put his hand on her mouth and pushed her against the wall.-"Everyone's sleeping. Don't shout, okay?"
She nodded and he moved his hand away from her face, caressing her cheek. Claire leaned toward, resting her head on his chest.
"I'm sorry."- She whispered.
"When everything's over, I'll leave, but first I want to make sure that you're safe."
"I don't want you to leave."
"But..."- Harry was confused.
"I don't want you to leave."
She repeated the words to convince herself, not him. Harry knew that Claire needed him.
"I know, you don't need to say anything."
He wrapped his hands around her, trying to make sure that she'd understand that he's not leaving.
"Don't do that again."- He whispered in Claire's ear as he touched it with his lips. She could feel his warm breath, she could smell his perfume.-"When I saw you on the ground..."
"You thought that I'm a drunk and stupid girl."- She laughed slightly.
His thumb gently wiped away a tear that had escaped down her cheek.
Both stayed still, but Harry broke the silence.
"It's late. We have school tomorrow... or at least you."- He joked.
"I'm sorry that you have to go through this again."
"Don't need to feel sorry. I'm doing this for you because you're like a sister to me. My little sister."
Claire pulled away."My little sister"- those words echoed in her head, she felt so small again. Her life wasn't ordinary from the beginning, her childhood was ruined by her parent's mistakes. The light disappeared from the road and now she was trying to find the end of this endless labyrinth.
"I want this to end."- She whispered to herself, hugging the pillow.
"Sweet dreams."- Harry kissed her forehead and she nodded.
His lips were so soft and warm. Taking a deep breath, Claire tried... wanted... needed to forget the touched of his lips. She wanted to kiss them over and over again. Claire wondered what it'd be like for him to touch her lips and feel... She shook her head. Thinking about it, made her feel so strange.
Harry moved toward the door and turned around for the last time, but Claire's eyes were closed.
