Second Chances

Why Can't We Just Be Friends?

*Zayn's POV*

I was leaning up against the lockers, opposite to the classroom I knew Ana was in.

I don't know why I was acting like this.

I'd never been like this towards girls before, I only ever slept around with them.

Something about Ana was drawing me in, and I was determined to find out what it was.

I'd walked out of class earlier than I was supposed to, but who gave a fuck?

My teacher did, that was for sure.

Grades weren't really on my mind; I did leave school next year.

I wasn't planning on going to college, the boy band I'm in with Harry was going to get big, I knew it.

Finally, the bell rang, signaling that the school day was finally over.

I crossed my arms across my chest as I span my car keys around my fingers.

"Hi, Zayn." Someone said from beside me, dragging their hand down my side.

I flinched and moved away.

I looked at the blonde stood next to me.

"Hi, Megan." I sighed, gritting my teeth.

"Are you coming to my place tonight? I'll give you another blowjob; I know how much you like them." She whispered in my ear, making me shiver.

I almost cheered when I saw Ana walk out of the door, her binder in her arms.

"Not tonight, Megan." I simply said, hurrying over to Ana and taking her binder from her.

"Hey!" She exclaimed, ready to hit me.

She dropped her arm once she noticed it was me, and sighed.

"Can I help you, Zayn?" She asked, stopping at her locker at the other end of the hall.

"I'm going to drive you home." I replied, handing her back her folder.

"I don't remember agreeing to that." She said, stuffing the folder into her locker, along with some other text books.

"You didn't agree to it, but since Harry is out with Kat, that means you don't have a ride home." I simply replied, my usual smirk on my face.

"As tempting as getting into a car alone with you sounds, I think I'd rather walk." She laughed, the melodic sound filling my ears.

Ana shut her locker and walked away from me.

I jogged to catch up with her.

I noticed people staring at us, but I merely rolled my eyes.

People should learn to mind their own business.

"Please just let me drive you home." I practically begged.

Ana bit her plump lip and eyed me carefully as we stood near my black Volvo XC60.

"Fine." She gave in, and I grinned in triumph.

I unlocked the vehicle, and opened the passenger side door for her.

She climbed in, and soon after I did too.

"Do you want to go home now, or stop somewhere?" I asked, brushing some hair out of my face and pulling out of the parking lot.

"Erm, I actually need to sort some things out at home." She answered quietly, looking out of the window and biting her thumbnail.

I was slightly disappointed with her answer, but I brushed away my feelings.

I don't know why, but I reached over and pulled her hand away from her mouth.

Ana stared at me in surprise; I hastily pulled away and awkwardly continued to drive.

"Turn left here."

I did as she told me.

I glanced at her from out of the corner of my eye, noticing her fiddling with her sweater, something she'd done a lot today.

"Why are you acting so shifty? You're not planning on murdering me in my own car, are you?" I asked, trying to lighten the mood.

"Don't tempt me." I chuckled at her, flicking my radio on.

We listened to the music that played through the speakers.

I knew some of the songs.

I hummed to the one’s in knew.

I turned my life to music. It has affected me and made me who I was.

I knew I was an asshole sometimes.

I thought back to the night of the party, when I first encountered Ana.

I feel so guilty about what happened.

Especially because Ana was oblivious to the truth.

"Zayn! Zayn!" Ana yelled, hitting my arm.

I jumped and panicked.

"What?!"

"Turn right, now." She said.

I turned into a street that was lined with large, white house, with tree's lining each side of the road.

"It's the last one." She said quietly, grabbing her bag.

"You've got a nice house, Princess." I commented, pulling up outside of it.

"Thanks." She replied, taking off her seatbelt.

"Not gonna invite me in?" I asked her, wiggling my eyebrows.

"Maybe some other time, I need to sort something out." She informed me, opening the door and stepping out.

"I'm only messing, see you soon, Princess." I smiled, and she returned if before walking up the driveway.

I watched her until she disappeared inside her house.

I pulled away from the curb and started my own drive home, with thoughts of Anastasia Jardine in my head.

I needed to get to know her more, and maybe tell her what was on my mind.
