Dreaming about London

Leeroy hm!

“Why hadn’t we thought of that?” he then asked his partner. “We’ve tried everything with this song except for changing the key.”

“It’s really weird, man,” Zayn said, “not to be singing at the stop of our ranges at all.”

“I thought that would make it stand out a bit more,” I said blushing from being so proud of being able to help my friends whenever they needed it.

“It’s also just so weird when you’ve listened to the same song so many times, thinking that something was just wrong and then suddenly you know when it’s right,” Liam smiled.

“Let’s do it again!” Harry exclaimed and then they practiced the new changes over and over again before starting to record it voice by voice.

Around six o’clock I had to leave, since I had agreed to come play with Eric and his band tonight and I had to pick up my violin at home first.

“You want a lift?” Niall asked me as he walked me down the stairs.

“No, no not all the way to West End,” I quickly said, “I’ll just take the tube.”

He pulled me in for a hug and a few kisses before waving goodbye as I walked out across the small parking lot.

Outside on the street I was attacked by loads of girls asking me questions and taking pictures. I had almost forgot about all the chaos it involved dating Niall Horan, but this time it didn’t scare me the same way at all as before.

Of course some of the questions were rude and vile but now there were also a few polite and nice ones and I tried to answer as much of those as I could to be nice to them as well.
Questions about my name, age and job was among those. A few of the girls actually wanted a picture with me as well, I just hoped it wasn’t to make some kind of woodo shit out of it.

As always the tube was my hiding place, where no one seemed to care at all and where everybody just minded their own business, which made me feel safe and anonymous for once.

There were girls outside our building as last time I was here, but once again I felt myself getting better and better at handling the crazy situation and keeping it cool.

When I got inside the apartment Em and Aida were having dinner.

“Well, look who’s returned!” Em said teasingly. “You know, when we left you with Niall we weren’t expecting you to move in there.”

I stuck my tongue out at her smirking face. “I’ve been with him at the recording studio,” I said while hanging up my jacket.

“Did you guys have sex?” Aida just asked out of the blue, like it was the only important thing to know and I cracked up at her honest way of expressing herself, but then I looked at her and she was quite serious actually, I figured I had to answer that question, I guess.

“Uhm. No,” I said and they both immediately started objecting and asking why the hell we didn’t do it and so on, but I cut them off. “We want to! But my ribs are still hurting a bit, I don’t think it will be very long though before I will have to do it just to stop myself from going crazy.”

They both nodded understanding my situation.

“And enough about my sex life,” I smirked while sitting down on the third chair in the small kitchen. “What about yours?” My glance travelled between the two girls who both sat blushing, suddenly they weren’t so cheeky and smart anymore. None of them said anything, so I just broke the silence by asking Aida:

“From what I saw it looked quite good?”

Now it was her eyes’ turn to fly open while she exclaimed: “Please, I feel so embarrassed about that! Let’s not talk about it, I said I was sorry…”

“Relax, relax,” I quickly said realizing that she thought I was still in chock about what had happened the other day. “No, I’m serious. As a friend I would like to know how the sex is with your new boyfriend.”

I tried not to smile to convince her about my honesty, but it was hard since I couldn’t help but find it a bit awkward to think about two of my best friends doing something like that.

“Come on, we always used to talk about stuff like this,” I said when she couldn’t manage to answer my question and both Em and I were staring at her waiting for with excitement. Cause this wasn’t just any guy – this was one of the guys we’d always been fantasizing about for several years and even though he was now my friend, the little teenage girl inside me that fell completely in love with him wouldn’t seem to go away ever. So we had to know what he was like, we just had to.

“Well…” Aida began blushing heavily like she always did when she talked either to or about a guy she liked. “He’s… very… big.”

“We knew it!” Em yelled. “We’ve always stared at all these photos where he had this big bulge on his jeans and listening to the assholes who said it had to be a sock or potato, but no! We can now confirm that Harry Edward Styles has a large penis!” She was smiling widely and Aida and I almost fell off our chairs in laughter.

“Oh my God!” Aida said with a couple of tears escaping her eyes.

“And what else?” I asked when we’d all composed ourselves a few moments later.

“Uhm…” she said as a smirk started forming on her face. “It was… really, really hot. Like, at first we just kissed but I think we were both well aware that we wanted to do it, so none of us spent too much time on you know… for play. And then he was just so… dirty.”

I bit my lip like I always seemed to do when I was excited about something sexually, even though if it didn’t involve me at all in any sense. Aida continued:

“He would, like… be just a tiny bit rough, like looking into my eyes whenever he did something, like… caress me… you know… down there. Or put a finger in my mouth while we were you know… doing it.”

I could tell that even though she also found it a bit weird to sit here and tell about how Em and I’s friend was in bed, she couldn’t help but getting carried away a little bit thinking about Harry’s and her being intimate together.

“Best sex I’ve ever had,” she ended the description but still looking a bit off.

All of us remained quiet for a bit before I turned to Em.

“And your sex life?” I asked which made us laugh again.

“Best sex I’ve ever had,” she just answered with blushing cheeks. “Not like Harry though, more like… in a sweet and soft kind of way. He’s like... himself. You know, as a person.”

“So… giving?” I couldn’t help but tease her.

“Loving?” Aida played along.

“Tender?” I then said.

“Acrobatic?” Aida asked, which made me crack up and laugh loudly for the next few minutes.

“Well, he certainly has an… acrobatic personality,” Em just said frowning and our foolishness, but it was clear that she was struggling to hold back a smile as well.

“Honey, don’t make fun of this, we’re dead serious,” Aida said through her gasping for air. “It’s Leeroy we’re talking about!”

That was the final word that made Em surrender, as she now couldn’t hold anything back anymore. Her laugh was mostly silent like she was just sitting there with her eyes closed tightly and an open mouth, but really she was trying to catch her breath again, without success though. Aida and I were having the same trouble as the picture of the character, the dance instructor, Leeroy, from the boys’ music video to Best Song Ever a couple of years ago, came across our minds. Liam looked absolutely horrible in that one, but he was just so incredibly entertaining.

“Really looking forward to hearing about your future sex life,” Aida said to me when we’d calmed down later.

“Looking forward to try it out,” I smirked.

“Girls, we also need to talk about Dirty Dicks next weekend. When to rehearse and so on,” Em said.

“What about just every afternoon and night after work from now on?” I suggested. They both nodded.

“Okay, then let’s just make a quick brain storm on some songs. What do we got?” Em then asked. “I think it would be great to do some of the covers we made, like Roar and As long as you love me.”

“And Heart Attack,” I added agreeing with her ideas. “And Aida, we should play the song you wrote while you were in New York a couple of years ago. What was it called again?”

Empire State of Mind,” she answered obviously looking a bit nervous about showing her song out in public.

“Yeah, that one, and also the song that you wrote Em, Royals. I’ve been thinking that we maybe could do an acapella version of that…” I added.

“Acapella?” she said with surprise as she thought it through a couple of times. “Guess we could try that.”

“And Maja, you should do your cover of I can’t make you love me,” Aida then said.

“What, alone?” I asked, since I’d only been playing that song on my own and not with the girls.

“Yeah, you and the piano,” Aida smiled and I got the feeling that the same nervous expression as she’d had a few seconds earlier was now also forming on my face.

“Okay, so we actually only need to find a couple of more songs and we’ll have enough for an hour,” Em counted the titles she’d been writing down on her phone.

About half an hour later I left with my violin hanging on my right shoulder heading towards the tube. The place where Eric and his folk music band rehearsed was only a few stops away, which I was quite relieved about since I felt a bit exhausted from having been active all day.
As always I had to use the GPS on my phone to know where the heck I was, but something seemed a bit wrong this time. I don’t know if it was a bad signal or what, but I somehow ended up in a blind alley, so I turned around to go back to where I came from.

“Excuse me?” a voice said from my left when I walked out on the street again. I looked up to see a man with a guitar case on his shoulder. “Are you Maja?”

“Who are you?” I asked.

“I’m Nick,” he said and came closer. “I play the guitar in Eric’s band. He’s the one that you know, right?”

“Yes,” I said and smiled and felt a knot releasing in my stomach, since I’d apparently felt a bit scared of that total stranger in the dark in a big city like London. “Yes, I’m Maja. How did you know?”

“I just saw the violin case, you looked a bit confused and Eric said you just moved here to London, so I took a shot,” he said reaching out his hand for me to shake.

“Well, nice to meet you, Nick,” I said. “Then I guess you can tell me how the hell I get to that place?”

“Sure I can,” he chuckled. “We play at the bass player’s house, since he has all the gear and his contra bass is also quite difficult to transfer. It’s not very far away.”

I followed him further down the street for a few minutes until we came to a nice neighborhood with newly painted houses and clean sidewalks. On the way I got to know a little about this Nick. Turned out he was almost thirty years old, even though he looked much younger, and that he’d been playing the guitar for almost his entire life.

“This is it,” he said and turned left in to the driveway at a small house. He opened the door and I followed him in to a small but very nice looking and warm hall.

“Hi guys!” Nick shouted and I jumped a little at the sudden sound coming from him. Eric’s face was now visible in the door to what looked like a living room or something. “Look who I picked up on the way.”

“Maja, welcome!” Eric said and gave me a hug. “How are you feeling?”

“Better and better each day,” I smiled. “Good to see you.”

“Yeah you too. So glad you could make it. This way,” he said and walked back through the door and further in to another room that definitely looked ready for playing music; an electric piano, multiple amplifiers, microphones and different kinds of percussion. A man was standing in there placing a microphone in front of a big contra bass, I guessed this was his place then.

“Hello,” I said and he looked up. “You must be Adam.” I walked forward and shook his hand. “I’m Maja.”

“Nice to finally meet you!” he said while waving his half long hair away from his face. He had a full grown brown beard also which made him look like my mother’s boyfriend.

Then people kept arriving at the house; an accordion player, named Sophie, and a saxophone player, Christian, came in at the same time which made me ask:

“Wait, exactly how many people are in this band?”

Sophie chuckled informing me: “Only one more, Ian. He plays the violin as well.”

“Wow, this is like a real orchestra!” I smiled as we all took out our instruments. “But if you already have a violin player why did you want me to play with you?”

“Because you also play the piano, just like Ian actually. And it would be nice to have both piano and violin on some of the tunes,” Eric said as he arranged his many little different drums and other stuff in front of him.

Ian arrived a minute later greeting me like the rest of them had done.

“So… can I listen to some of your music first or something?” I asked when everybody looked ready.

“Yeah sure,” Nick said. “Uhm, let’s do the polka first then.”

Everybody nodded and Eric counted them in and right when they started playing I could tell that they were good. Really good. They must’ve been playing together for a long time, they seemed to know each other’s style and the music well. The beat of the tune was held tight by Eric, Adam and Nick, which gave it a nice feeling to it, and I was so amazed with how talented musicians they were. I didn’t know what I was expecting of them, but my expectations couldn’t have been that high since I was apparently so surprised that they practically sounded like professionals. And probably were.

Suddenly I didn’t feel very comfortable playing with all these great musicians in a few minutes, knowing that I hadn’t touched my violin for several weeks now because of spending most of my time in the hospital and I just sat there praying that it would sound like anything near okay.

“Wow, you guys are really great!” I exclaimed when they’d finished the tune and they all smiled proudly at me.

“We were thinking that today we could practice some of our new ones and then you can learn the old tunes by yourself, since it’s not really fair to expect you to jump in right here and now,” Adam informed me and I nodded feeling a bit relieved that I didn’t have to learn it all while they would be listening.

Sophie had brought a waltz that she’d written for us to learn and maybe make a bit of arrangement on. As we sat there learning by ear I as usual learned it rather quickly, since I’d always been used to learn music that way and not so much by using written down notes.

When we reached to finding some chords I actually managed to have a bit of influence on it by suggesting one chord instead of the one that Nick played to begin with.

“Yeah, that sounds good,” both him and Adam agreed.

It felt absolutely amazing to be playing some folk music finally – I’d never been in a band this good, I could only hope they would like to keep me in it, since somehow this was the kind of music I was most passionate about except for my song writing that also always seemed to have a touch of this genre. I had a blast playing for several hours with these people and before I knew it, it was almost eleven o’clock in the evening and I jumped up from my chair.

“Oh God, I’m going to miss my train!” I exclaimed and started packing away my violin. “I’m so sorry, this was really fun, but I have to go. Oh shit!”

“Don’t worry, you can just spend the night here,” Adam interrupted me and I looked up at him with surprise. “We were going to have a couple of beers in a minute after the rehearsal, we were thinking that you might want to join?”

“Well. Is that okay?” I asked.

“Yeah of course!” Christian smiled as the rest nodded agreeing with him.

A smile started forming on my lips as well. “Thank you. That’s really nice of you guys,” I said and everybody started packing away their instruments.

And so we held a small party in the living room of Adam’s house drinking lots of beers and singing old English folk songs that Ian seemed to the expert at, it was just hilarious and I couldn’t help but laugh most of the time and the alcohol only enhanced my happy mood.

They were all such nice and relaxed people to be around and even though some of them were a lot older than me, especially Nick and Sophie, I found myself get along with them really well.

“Don’t any of you guys have to go to work or something tomorrow?” I asked when I noticed the clock turning three in the morning.

“No,” Eric said smirking at me. “We’re musicians, we don’t have to work in the morning.”

“Unless you consider partying a job,” Christian shouted with a voice that was raspy from all the drinking and singing, he sounded quite drunk.

I laughed at him probably acting just as drunk without knowing it. It wasn’t until I felt a hand on my leg I stopped smiling and I looked down to see Eric’s hand caress my thigh.
