You Have To Let Go
We drove back to my place in silence. The cemetery wasn't too far from my house. I think back to how when I was in the reviving line, everyone said she'd be greatly missed. But I knew the truth. They'd just forget about her and move on. Not caring that she's gone. I'd never forget. When we arrived at my flat, I looked in the mirror and realized Midnight had fallen asleep. I got out of the car and carried her into the house. I laid her down on the bed in the guest bedroom and put a blanket over her. She slept in the same position Meliday did. Midnight reminded me so much of her sister. Her hair, her eyes, she was just like her. I sighed sadly. I changed into something comfortable and tried to get some sleep. After twenty minutes, I realized I couldn't. Its been two days. And I haven't slept a wink. I tried to focus on other things. But I couldn't stop thinking about her. Finally around 1 am, I decided to get up and go to the kitchen for a snack. I grabbed some cookies and sat down thinking about Meliday. I thought about her smile, her laugh, the way she played with her locket when she was nervous. All of a sudden, she appeared in front of me.
"Hi. Can't sleep?"
"Meliday! You're here! See I told them you are alive! But they won't believe me." She looked at me, sorrow in her eyes. She placed her hand on me cheek. I shivered. Her hand was so cold. I tried to touch her hand, but all I felt was my hand on my cheek mixed with her soft, cold fingers. "Niall. My little Irish Niall. I'm dead and you have to move on. I can't move on until you do." Confusion swept over me like a wave.
"I can't move on! I love you! Why don't you want to stay with me? Be who we were? Who we are? In LOVE?" She looked behind me and smiled.
Meliday whispered softly,"Midnight..." I turned around, "Midnight?!" Meliday had a freaked out look on her face. I looked back at Meliday to tell her how I was going to take care of Midnight. But she had disappeared.
"Meliday? Meliday!" I called out frantically, but heard no response except a quiet, frightened voice.
"Are you okay?" I spun around. "You know she's gone right? That's what the police officer said." I turned around to see Midnight and knew I must've looked crazy. But, I knew she was alive. Even if they didn't believe me.
"I'm fine. Just go back to bed." I watched her hurry back to her room. I took my own advice and went to bed. Dreaming of my perfect and alive Meliday.
