Through The Dark
Roots
The boys had a day off so they decided to choose this day to come back with me to my hometown. I'd always lived in a tiny suburb outside of NYC my entire life, so it was weird returning back with multiple tour buses following ours. It made -quite- a scene.
I had called my mom and my friends before so they knew I was coming. I came from more of a high-class family, so our house was pretty big and we owned a lot of land out in the country part of my town.
As we arrived at my house, I told all of the boys to put on their best behaviors and that we wouldn't be staying here for too long. We all walked up to the front door together. I was surprised when Jay answered the door. As soon as he saw me, his face brightened up and he pulled me in for a hug.
As he pulled away, I noticed my mom was now standing behind him, smiling. Jay's smile quickly turned into a frown as he noticed the boys behind me.
"I see you brought your..um, boyfriend," Jay said while glaring at Harry.
"Boyfriend?" My mom jumped into the conversation with hope filled eyes. I never really dated guys in my home town because I always felt like I deserved better. Not to sound cocky, I just wasn't into boys who only focused on sex and alcohol. And that's all the guys in my town did.
"Uhh," I said. I didn't know what to say, or how to explain what we were. I glanced over towards Harry and thought, "Help me out here".
He seemed to have got my message as he moved over towards me and grabbed my hand, entangling our fingers. I looked up at him and smiled thankfully.
"I'm Harry," he said while charmingly smiling at my mom and shaking her hand,"Brooklyn's boyfriend, and these are my band mates," he said as he motioned towards all of the boys.
"Well i'm delighted to meet you all," my mom said, she was obviously so happy and she looked like she was about to explode,"Come on inside," she said.
We all walked in and Harry never let go of my hand. I saw all of my old friends sitting there, including Katie. She practically fainted when she saw Niall. I could feel Harry uncomfortably flinch when he saw Katie. I wonder why.
"Dinner will be served in about a half-an-hour," my mom said before leaving towards the kitchen.
"Oh thank god, i'm starving," I heard Niall say. He was always eating, wasn't he?
I saw my dad and he immediately took a liking to Harry. My dad was a big Green Bay Packers fan like Harry, so as you can imagine, they had a lot to talk about, so I left Harry to talk with him.
I saw a few of my cousins and friends go up to the rest of the boys and ask for autographs and pictures, and they were more than cool with it. They looked really comfortable actually, which made me smile.
I made my way over to Katie, Jay, and a couple more of my friends.
"Hey guys," I said smiling as I hugged them all. Katie, the girls, and I were having a conversation about everything I had missed while I've been gone before Niall came over and asked if he could talk to Katie. So I decided to talk to Jay, but he still seemed a bit pissed off at me.
"Is everything alright, Jay? I haven't seen you in like a week and I already feel like you hate me," I said to him with a sarcastic laugh.
"No, Brooklyn, I don't hate you. I'm mad yeah, but," he said before I interrupted him.
"About what?" I asked him as I raised my eyebrow.
I saw him glance over behind me at Harry and glare. Of course. Was Jay...jealous?
"Can I talk to you in private?" he asked me with a serious look.
"Uh, yeah, sure," I said as I led him into the other room, which was my dads office, and shut the door.
"I don't like him," Jay said immediately with anger filled eyes.
"What?" I said, clearly confused.
"Your boyfriend, Brookie, i'm getting a bad vibe from him. I know he's going to hurt you," he said as he stepped closer towards me. That made me defensive, how dare he assume things about Harry like this.
"What do you know about Harry? Huh, Jay? That's right, you DON'T know him, so why are you judging him? Harry's not going to hurt me, not anymore," I said. Ooops, I let that last part slip but I knew Jay heard it.
"....anymore? You mean that PRICK has hurt you before?!" he angerly said through gritted teeth. Oh no, i'm stupid. He glanced over at me and saw the bruises on my neck and wrist.
Before I could reply, Jay went charging out of the room.
"No, Jay, stop!" I said behind him but he kept on going,"Jay, you don't know the entire story!" I said and he stopped in his tracks as we entered the hallway.
"The whole story, huh? So you're saying there is a perfectly fine reason why you would let this douche bag hurt you?!" he said. He grabbed my wrist hard and exposed the bruise.
"NOTHING ABOUT THIS IS OKAY, BROOKLYN!" he shouted at me as he pointed towards my bruised wrist. Tears started to form in my eyes.
"Harry did nothing wrong, nothing I didn't deserve," I whispered while not looking Jay in the eyes.
He released my wrist and surprisingly pulled me into a hug. Then he pulled away and looked me in the eyes.
"You don't deserve any pain, what would make you think that you did?" he said.
When I didn't answer, he moved closer to me.
"I'm just...so much better for you, Brooklyn, I'd keep you safe, I'd never hurt you..." he said as he looked calmly into my eyes.
Was Jay saying what I think he was saying?
