Secrets We're Hiding (CURRENTLY ON HOLD FOR EDITING)

Chapter one

Today was another dreadful Monday; along with that, there is a new guy coming into the school that I had to show around. I hated meeting new people. I wasn’t one of those “social butterflies”, as some people call them. I stayed in my small circle of four friends, and we’ve been friends since kindergarten. Plus, I was pretty shy, so it was hard for me to meet new people, especially when I started stuttering; most people called me weird for it or started laughing at me because of it. I wasn’t bullied, I just wasn’t that liked by people.

I wasn’t one of the populars, jocks, or even one of those “Smartie pants”. I was always referred as an outcast and most likely always will be. And of course my friends were outcasts.

I could never be one of the populars, jocks, or even nerds because I was too abnormal to be accepted into any of their little “cliques”.

One thing that made it to where I couldn’t even be one if I changed over summer and came back a totally different person; hotter, more athletically talented, and smarter. I’m gay, and apparently not everyone can accept that. I hate how people can be so judgmental about someone when they barely know the person. That’s why I don’t tell anybody unless they are close friends, which all of my friends know, they were the people who I came to when I figured out that I was and helped me figure out how to come out to my parents.

-

During my first period class, office aide, I sat there for probably about half an hour, bored out of my mind with nothing to do, all of my homework was done and all of the errands were already ran. Mrs. Barnes always gives me them at the start of the period because she knows that I always get them done efficiently, and she really doesn’t care what I do for the rest of the period. I heard the one of the front doors squeak open then squeak shut with a little slam when the cold, grey, metal door met the cold, metal frame. Light footsteps became audible when they became closer and closer to the office window.

A cute boy came to the window; he had a tall stature about 5’9”, 5’10”-ish. He had dark brown, curly hair. The beautiful curls framing his face perfectly. He had bright green eyes that glistened when the light hit them. He looked a few years younger than me, being a senior. He looked like he could be a freshman or possibly a sophomore.
“Louis, dear, could you show this young man around? He is the new student that we have been expecting.” Mrs. Barnes said handing me his schedule.

When I walked out of the office, I stood near the boy, I was somewhat surprised at how tall he actually was compared to my height; he was only a few inches taller than me—and his curls made it more obvious that he was taller than me—but I felt shorter around him than I usually do around people that are taller than me. “L-L-Louis, my n-name is L-Louis.” I stuttered out. Whenever I was around a cute guy I started to get really nervous, my body would tense up, and I would start to stutter.

He laughed a bit. I liked his laugh, but I really hope he wasn’t laughing at me or the fact that I stutter when I get nervous.

“Hey, I’m Harry, and by the way, you don’t have to be nervous around me; I’m not going to bite you.” He laughed again.

“How did you know that I stutter when I get nervous?”

“Because you seem really nervous, and I was just guessing, actually.”

I looked down at his schedule trying to change the topic; he had all the same classes with me, aside from first period, when he had Home Ec. “So, you actually have most of your classes with me, so that’ll be good; it will be easier to show you around. Wow, you’re a senior? You look like you could be a freshman or a sophomore almost.”

“Yeah, I skipped a few grades; I’m actually only fifteen…”

“Wow, you’re only fifteen?!”

“Yeah, my mom put me in really advanced classes when I was younger.”

“Well, your first period is Home Ec. which Ms. Moss teaches, she’s really nice, you will probably like her, and everyone does.” We walked down the hall towards his locker was placed; it was the one next to mine. We got to his locker, I handed him the combo that Mrs. Barnes handed me when she gave me his schedule; he opened it with no problem. He took off the coat that he was wearing and placed it in the empty locker along with some extra notebooks, making the locker no longer empty. “So, coincidentally, my locker is actually this one,” I pointed the metal door that was the right of his.

“Nice that will add to the convience.”

We walked to his class. When we got there I walked up to Ms. Moss, who was sitting at her desk, “Ms. Moss, I have a new student for your class.”

She looked at me, “Well that’s fantastic!” She was always enthusiastic about new additions to her class. She looked at Harry, “What’s your name, hun?”

“It’s Harry, Harry Styles.”

“I like the name.” I agreed with her without doing anything, just the way his name rolled off the tongue made it appealing. I loved his name. I didn’t want to make anything to obvious but I was definitely developing a crush on him.

“Bye, Harry; I will wait for you outside the class at the end of the period, so I can show you where second period is, seeing how we have it together.” I said to him before leaving, going back to the office.

-

Being an Office Aide, I get out a few minutes early to beat the rush. I waited outside of Ms. Moss’ classroom for Harry. The bell rang and instantly students rushed out of the classrooms, filling the empty hallway quickly. Harry was the last to exit the class.

“What class do we have next?” he asked me as he exited the classroom and we started making our way through the crowd.

“We have AP Bio, with Mr. Smith.” And with that we walked to class in silence, aside from the roar of the hallway full of students that we were trying to pass through without being trampled.

I sat down in the barely empty classroom, sitting in the second row, Harry filling the empty seat next to me. “Is the teacher nice?” Harry asked as he got a notebook and pen out of his bag, setting down between our chairs.

“He’s fairly nice, unless the class is being obnoxious. If that happens, just keep your mouth shut until you are called on. And definitely do not talk when he’s talking, if you do, he will blow his top and write you a referral almost immediately.”

“Got it, don’t talk unless called on.”

-

The class passed without Mr. Smith blowing up; we didn’t do much, we just did a few worksheets, which is normal for this class, we rarely do labs or anything.

The bell rang and we rushed into the crowded hallway to get the third period, thankfully lunch is right after.

“Where to?”

“We have AP Calculus with Mr. Clark.”

We got to class, Harry sat next to me again, but I really didn’t mind.

The class passed with few people getting in trouble. The class was filled with note taking, talking, and homework, like any other day in AP Calc. The bell rang and we all rushed in to the hallway again.

“Now what class?”

“Lunch,” I laughed.

“Oh, okay then,” he blushed a bit.

“So, did you bring lunch?”

“Yeah, I have been since I got food poisoning from school lunch two years ago.”

“Oh, I’m sorry,”

“Don’t be, it wasn’t your fault,” he laughed.

“Yeah, but I can still be sympathetic.”

“So, where do you usually sit?”

“Right over there, with my four friends.”

“Nice, do you mind if I sit with you?”

“Not at all,” we walked to the table, Harry filling the spot next to me again. “So Harry, this is Zayn, Liam, Niall, and Josh.” I said as I pointed to my only friends. I didn’t mind I only had four friends, I actually liked not have a lot of friends, especially since I so close to all of them.

“Nice to meet you guys, I’m Harry, I just moved here.”

“Hi, Harry,” they all said almost in unison. He chuckled at the fact that they all said it at basically the same time.

We sat there for the entire lunch period just talking and laughing, honestly I think that Harry was flirting with me, and I don’t even think it was the fact that I like him that made me think that. I actually caught him starting at me at one point; he then blushed and quickly turned away from me and turned his attention to his hands that were fiddling on his lap.

-

The end of the day came fairly quickly after lunch, Harry and I have Study hall, Mixed Media, and AP History together, since we have all but first period together. When everybody rushed out of the building I got stuck in the crowd. As soon as I managed to get out of the door, I headed home. I heard faint running behind me, “Louis! Louis, wait up.”

I looked behind me to see Harry running towards me; I stopped walking so he could catch up to me. Thirty seconds later, Harry is next to me bent over trying to catch his breath. “Are you okay?” I asked with sympathy in my voice.

“I’m fine; I just haven’t had run that fast in a while.”
Why was he running after me so fast? Better question: why was he running after me at all?

“Sorry, I was just trying to catch you before you went home; I was wondering if you wanted to hang out today?”

Wait, what? Was he really asking me this? “Like now?”

“Yeah, I mean, if you want to. You’re kind of the only friend I have here, you are my friend, right?” he looked at me with sad puppy dog eyes, I mean how could resist that face? And I mean, I did want him to be one of my friends.

“Yeah, totally, I was actually kind of hoping that you would be.”

“Well, you seem like a really nice guy, so what the hell right?”

“Right, so what do you want to do? I don’t have any homework because I finished it all in study hall, in Mixed Media there’s never any homework, and we had a test in AP History.”

“I, well, I don’t know really, I’m new here so I’m not very familiar with the place.”

“Well, do you have any place in mind where you’d want to go?”
“What about the mall?”

“We can do that.”

I drove to the closest mall, being about ten minutes away. The first store we went into was actually not even a store, it was Jamba Juice. We got our smoothies and wandered around the mall until we got kind of hungry, the nearest place was Auntie Anne’s so we grabbed a snack there. Most of the time we spent at the mall we didn’t buy that much, aside from snacks and I bought Harry and I a pair of shoes each, I got him a pair of converse, and a pair of TOMS for me. He pretty much protested when I paid for his shoes, but after some convincing I was able to actually pay for them. All I had to ask was if he actually had money to pay for them.

“You know you didn’t have to buy those for me.” He said, probably trying to get me to take them back.

“I know, but I wanted to, and you wanted them but didn’t have any money to get them so I bought them for you. And if you are some how trying to get me to take them back, I’m not going to, so don’t try.”

“Okay, I get it; I won’t try to convince you to take them back.”

We left the mall and got back into my car by five o’clock. “So, where is your house, Harry?”

“Uh, it’s the green house in the middle of First Street.”

“Wow, this is pretty uncanny; we have every class but first period together, our lockers are right next to each other, and we live directly across the street from each other! I knew you looked familiar! I saw you unloading the moving truck a few days ago.”

“Oh, yeah, now that I think about it, you look some what familiar too; I think I saw you the other day.”

“Well, here you go; I guess I’ll be across the street if you need anything.”

I handed him his shoes and he got out of my car.

“Oh, hey, Harry, it supposed to rain tomorrow, do you need a ride to school?”

“Sure, thanks, just honk when you’re in my driveway. Oh, and Louis, here’s my number, you can text me if you want.” I took the folded up piece of paper that he handed me with his number on it. It looked as if he winked at me before he shut the car door and scampered into his house.

-

I was really bored and it was probably half past seven o’clock, so I decided to text Harry.

“To: Harry
Hey, it’s Louis.”

I almost immediately received a text back.

“From: Harry
Hey, Lou.”

(A/N from this point on, it goes back and forth; Louis then Harry.)

“Lou?”

“Yeah, is that okay?”

“Yeah, its fine, I’ve just never been given a nickname before, that’s all.”

“Really? Why not?”

“Well, I don’t really have that many friends to give me a nickname so…”
“Oh, well, now you have me.”

“Lol, thanks for the notification.”

“What, did you not think we were friends? I thought we discussed this earlier outside of the school.”

“We did, I’m just being sarcastic.”

“Well you should give me some slack, you can’t really tell if its sarcasm in a text.”

We texted for another hour or two, until he had to go. I think this is a starting of a great relationship, whether it’s dating or friendship.

Notes

OKAY, chapter one. IDK when I'll be able to put up another chapter. This is my first Larry fanfic--but I've read too many to count--so you could cut me a little slack.
