Breaking Fate

We waited in the line that was slowly filtering into the hallway that led to the plane entrance. I was holding Aiden tightly in my arms and Harry was doing the same with Nicholas. He was constantly looking behind his back and to the sides. He was starting to freak me out. "Can you please stop! You are putting me on edge," I whisper yelled at him as we stepped forwards a few more steps. "I just want you to be safe," he replied as he pulled me to his side. I leaned my head against his shoulder as we stepped up to the lady taking our tickets. She quickly took our tickets and we exited into the hallway, with Harry and I now holding hands. I smiled as I felt his hand squeeze mine reassuringly.

I sat in my seat, facing the black TV screen on the headrest of the chair in front of me. Nicholas had the window and then Aiden was next to him. I leaned my head against Harry's shoulder. Harry was sitting with his left foot jutting out into the isle since he had the isle seat. "We would like all passengers on this aircraft to please listen to the following safety instructions and watch the video on the screens in the back of the headrest in front of you. Welcome aboard..."
I tuned the rest off it out as I checked my email on my phone one last time before I had to switch it off.

I felt the plane start to pick up speed as it taxied down the runway. The pressure of the increasing speed could be felt as it pushed me back into the seat. I peaked out the window and saw the tall building of England start to fade away as the plane lifted up into the air. I smiled over at the boys who had their faces pressed against the window-watching their home drift away into the unseen. I felt my lips lift up into a smile as Harry took my hand and placed his arm around me. "I will protect you, and Aiden, because you are my family, you are my everything, and I will never let you go," he said as I drifted off to sleep with his sweet words still ringing in my ears.

"Karina, darling, we have landed in France," Harry softly whispered into my ear. I slowly opened my eyes to see the ceiling of the plane and to see the two boys looking at me. "Mommy," they both cheered as I pulled them into my arms and rocked them back and forth. "Hey guys," I said, "we will get off this plane in a moment." They nod as the loudspeakers come on throughout the plane directing everyone to please take their luggage and exit the plane. Harry jumps up and grabs our backpacks from the overhead compartment and then helps us get out of our seats amidst the crowded isle. The line to get of the plane starts moving slowly a few minutes later and in about 10 minutes, we have made it out the plane door.

We walk to the automatic doors that lead to the car rentals and when we step through, I am so glad that we have made it safely so far. I look over at Harry and say, "You have kept you promise so far." He grins at me and takes my hand as the boys run ahead if us.

Love is one if life's greatest mysteries
But we know one thing: Live your life and live with love, because life is love and life is meant to be shared with the people you care about, as is love.

That small poem came into my mind as I thought of a story my dad used to read to me when I was little. And for the first time in my life, I understood what that poem meant.
