We walked to the hotel where we were staying, and by management, in different rooms. Little Soxx (Foxx and Styles put together)was laying grumpily in my hand. Lina wouldn't stop petting Soxx.
"You want to hold him?" I asked.
"So now its a him?" I shook my head, and carefully placed Soxx in Lina's arms. The cat looked at her, purred, and fell asleep.
"Oh come on!" I yelled. Lina laughed.
"Well, you are the one that picked her up from the alley. Probably didn't like that." She said, petting Soxx. We walked up the steps of the hotel. but, on the door, was a sign:
No Pets Allowed.
"What?" Lina said looking at Soxx. She clutched the kitten to her chest.
"Lina, I...we have to let Soxx go." Tears filled her eyes. And she started shaking her head frantically.
"No. " Tears filled her eyes. So, I grabbed her hand and walked to the nearest kennel. Which, luckily, was only a few blocks away. We walked in.
"Hello. We need to rent a kennel for the night." I said to the man behind the counter. He nodded.
"Just fill these out, and I'll prepare the kennel. I smiled. Thank goodness he speaks English.
"Thank you." He walked away. I grabbed a pen from the pencil holder, and sat next to Lina."Um, what's our cat's gender?" I asked.
"Female. I had someone check for me already while you were up there." I nodded. And filled everything else out. I walked to the counter, and waited for the man to return. He walked back. I handed it to him, paid the bill, and Lina carefully and slowly gave the man Soxx.
"She'll be fine. I see that you rescued her?" We nodded.
"Well, I'll make sure to give her the required vaccines." Lina managed a nod even though she looked terrified. I rubbed her back.
"Soxx will be fine." She looked at me. And half smiled.
"I'll see you tomorrow." He said. I waved, and we walked back to our hotel.
