KATHLEEN POV

"I need to kill Liam," Louis says in a completely calm tone as if he just asked me if I'd like a cup of tea. I stare at him like he's grown a second head.

"Louis dear, I think I misunderstood you. I thought you just said you needed me to help you kill Liam," a nervous laugh escapes my lips.

"No, you heard me clearly. It is time for Liam to meet his eternal rest." What is he about? He isn't smirking, his eyes aren't red with anger. He's completely calm.

"I don't understand," is all I can mutter.

"Kathleen, this needs to be done...for love and for Liam's peace."

"You would kill Liam to have Isla to yourself? Tell me the truth! That's what this is about!" I don't care that he has the power to turn on me and put me to true death. I won't be part of his selfish plan.

"No, there is much more to it than that. I am not a cold, heartless bastard. I love Liam and I am doing this for him and to set things right for ALL of us."

"Louis, I don't understand." I really don't. He seems more sincere than I have ever known him to be.

"Please have a seat and let me explain," he gestures as he escorts me to the parlor.

LOUIS POV

Well, so much for blind loyalty, but I understand her shock. I'm sure what I've told her sounds horrible, but Kathleen will understand once I explain it all to her. Unlike Isla and Liam, she understands the laws, rules, and ways of our kingdom as well as I do. There IS a reason why we are the ruling class in Jensaona.

"Kathleen, please don't look at me like I'm a cold blooded killer."

"Well, technically you are, You're a vampire after all."

"Really? Fine time to get cheeky," I say with a smirk.

"Well, given the topic of discussion, I think we need a little humor." Good, she's back with me.

"In all seriousness, I've thought a lot about this Kathleen. You never knew the story of Liam's human death, did you?"

"No. He never discussed it with me. There was never a reason to talk about it."

"He was murdered and his murderer was never captured." I hear her gasp.

"Oh Louis, it explains so much! Is that why your father hates him and was trying to put him to the true death?"

"Yes. It's also why I always tried to protect him and befriend him. I believe those who go to their eternal rest should go in peace. My father would have left Liam's soul to eternal torture. I could never allow someone I love to suffer for eternity."

She nods for me to continue and I see her face relax from the earlier tension, anger, and confusion.

"Kathleen, I love Liam. He is like a brother to me. I love him enough to set him free. Over the past two years, I've seen the change in him. His soul is being overtaken by the darkness that grows inside him. The longer he continues on like this, the more dangerous he will become. It will break Isla's heart and mine. It's starting to affect our relationship. Are you even aware that he forced me to rape Isla when she was just a girl, while he raped me, when I went to check on his assignment from my father?"

"WHAT??!! Louis what are you talking about?!!" She looks at me with disbelief.

"Isla knows and if you ask Liam, he will not deny it."

"This is too much to take."

"Yes and I'm trusting you with all our lives because if my father knew, he would kill all of us. Liam for his actions, Isla to hurt me for my disobediece in not reporting it, and I can't imagine my own punishmet becase I would die without Isla. Liam's getting worse over time. The other night, he became jealous of me and Isla and tried to mark over my bite on Isla's neck."

Kathleen's hand flies up to her mouth and her eyes open wide. She fully understands my problem.

"Louis! Does he have a death wish? How did you control yourself and not kill him on the spot? Oh Liam, what a stupid thing to do."

"Things are getting complicated. There is always tension in the house. Jealousy. Fighting. And, other issues to consider..." I trail off.

"Such as?" She's not going to let me off the hook until I say it all.

"Okay, I will not lie to you. We both know that Isla is my true love and I hers. It doesn't mean we don't love Liam, but we cannot move forward in a three-way relationship. I want to propose, marry, and have children with her. My father will give me back my place on the throne and we have to be responsible for the future of Jensaona. So yes, Liam's eternal rest would make things easier on my future with Isla and the throne. There, I've said it."

"Louis, you haven't told Isla any of what you are planning, have you?"

"No. How could I? She won't understand. She's a newborn vampire and she hasn't lived in the kingdom where she would be learning our history and ways."

"So, you just plan on Liam disappearing and leaving Isla mourning for him? How do you think she'd feel?"

"Isla would never let Liam go. That's why I need you to come back with me. We need to talk with Liam. I cannot convince him on my own that it is time for him to get his peace, solve his murder, and go to his eternal rest. Plus, I need your help to find a way for him to die that is painless. I couldn't bear for him to suffer. I love him, even though what I'm doing might seem the opposite. Then, there is Isla. She's going to be devastated and need our support."

She sits there, saying nothing and just stares at me with an expression I cannot read. My nerves are getting the best of me and I cannot wait any longer for a response. I don't want to have to order her to help me, it has to be of her own free will.

"Kathleen, are you in with me? After everything I've told you, will you still help me help Liam find peace?"

"Yes."
