Half A Heart
Chapter Eight
Melody’s POV
Two months. It’s been two months since I’ve heard a word from Liam and it was driving me absolutely insane!
“Come on! Time to go!” I yelled at Quin as I passed by her room.
“Can’t we just take one day from running?” Quin groaned as she walked through her door and into the kitchen. I followed behind her.
“Nope. If we skip one day, then we’ll keep skipping and keep skipping. Better to get it all over with.” I shrugged and grabbed a bottled water from the fridge.
“Well, you can go today. I’m gonna stay in. Niall’s supposed to be coming over in a little bit and I don’t want to be all sweaty and gross when he gets here.” I rolled my eyes and grabbed my keys. “Not that I won’t be sweaty and gross by the time he leaves.”
“Oh my god, I’m leaving.” I ran out the door before she could leave any more scaring mental images in my brain.

As soon as I climbed out of my car when I got to the park, I grabbed my iPod and stuffed my earbuds into my ears and stretched before getting on the two mile track that circled the park.
No more than fifteen minutes into my run, I saw a familiar faces walking in my direction. I could have sworn I saw them before…
Shit.
Fuck, fuck, fuck.
Abort mission!
I turned on my heel as soon as I realized it was Liam and his mystery girl before I ran in the opposite direction. If I was lucky, they wouldn’t have seen me. “Melody?” Dammit. I stopped dead in my tracks and turned to them.
“Hey, Liam.” I placed my hands on my side and tried to catch my breath. “What are you doing here?”
“I’m here walking Loki with Jaymie.” Ah, so the bitches name was Jaymie.
Snap out of it, Mels! You left him!
“Hi, I’m Jaymie.” The blonde stuck her hand out to shake mine.
“Melody.” The bitterness in my voice even caught me by surprise.
“Right, well I’m going to keep walking Loki… you two seem like you need some privacy.” I nodded as she walked past me.
“What was that about?” Liam questioned as I tried to walk past him.
“What?” I looked at him with complete innocence.
“You weren’t very nice to her.” Liam crossed his arms over his chest with amusement written all over his face.
“I don’t get along with many people.” I shrugged.
“You can’t lie to me, Melody.”
“What do you want me to say?”
“You’re jealous, aren’t you?”
“What?! Psh! No!” I lied as I thought of a million questions to ask him about her. Who she was, how they met, their first date…
“Well, it’s really nice to see you.” Liam smiled and opened his arms up for a hug. I looked him up and down skeptically. “It’s just an innocent hug.” He sounded like he was trying to convince himself more than he was me.
If I hadn’t just started my period a few days before this, or missed him so much, or was so stressed from school, I might have just given him a hug. But no. I did just start my period a few days before, I did miss him, and I was stressed from school, which led to—
“How dare you!?” The yell caught both of us by surprise.
“What?”
“You proposed to me!” Liam cocked his head in confusion. “And I broke up with you!” I regretted saying that as soon as the pain flashed over his face.
“I know that, Melody.” Liam was much calmer than I was. “I was there.”
“How… how can you be over me so quickly!?”
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“Her! Jaymie!”
“No! It’s not like that… wait you broke up with me!”
“I know that, Liam!” This argument was making no sense at all.
“I shouldn’t be explaining anything to you!”
“I have to go.” I pushed past him and reached into the pocket of my sweatpants for my car keys.
“Why are you so upset?!” Liam asked, chasing after me.
“Because… it’s stupid.” I shook my head and finally made it to my car, unlocking it and opening the door.
“It’s not stupid.” Liam placed his hand on the door, shutting it once again before I got the chance to step in.
“I’m not over you, okay!?” I yelled and felt the color drain from my face as I saw a man with a camera about ten yards off. “I have to go.”
“Mels—“
“I have to go.” I moved Liam’s hand and opened the car door before climbing inside and driving off without a second thought. I couldn’t believe I had done that!
“That was a quick run.” Quin noted when I walked through the door of the apartment.
“If anyone knocks on that door, don’t let them in. I don’t care who it is.” I said before sitting on the couch, praying Liam didn’t follow me home.
“Are you going to tell me what happened?”
“I ran into Liam at the park today and he was with this blonde chick, and then we got into this huge argument—“
“You and the blonde chick?”
“Me and Liam. Keep up.”
“Sorry.”
“Then I told him I wasn’t over him and then I kinda ran when I saw the paps.”
“Whoa…”
“Yeah… So now I think Liam’s going to come over and try to talk to me like he always used to and I don’t want that embarrassment right now because I’m on my period and all I want is some damn chocolate!”
“Okay, calm down.” Quin reached into her purse and grabbed me a small chocolate bar. “I’m sure he understands your boundaries right now and will give you the space you need.” The second she finished her sentence there was a knock on the door. “I’m sure it’s just Niall. Calm down.” She rolled her eyes at the fear written all over my face before standing up and answering the door. “Oh… hey, Liam.”
