Half A Heart
Chapter Seven
I tossed my books onto my bed as I entered my room and grabbed my “study chair” (it was really just a green fold up chair) and pulled it up to my bed before grabbing my books from under my bed.
It was really a guess and hope kinda thing with me whenever I needed something. I guessed where I had last thrown it, and hoped I was right. If I wasn’t I was screwed and I made a three hour journey to find whatever item was needed.
Long story short: I desperately needed to clean my room.
“Melody!” I heard my best friend call from the living room.
“In here!” I called back as I opened my laptop to pull up my notes from my music industry class. I had signed up for it hoping to get a bit of a better look into Liam’s life, but… you know… I broke up with him after he proposed to me.
Anyway, the class actually ended up being really quite interesting, so I decided ‘hell, why not?’ and stayed in.
“Hey, Niall’s coming over for dinner if you’re okay with that.”
“Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?” I shrugged and found one of the millions of note documents I had made.
“Well, it’s been a few days since you and Liam talked, so I was just wondering if it was cool having one of his friends over.”
“It’s really fine. He’s your boyfriend, Q. You put up with Liam for a few months, so I can get used to Niall being around.”
“Alright… well, dinner’s gonna be around seven, so—“
“Don’t worry about it. I’ll be in here studying all night anyway. Big test on Thursday and an essay due tomorrow.” I rolled my eyes at the amount of work this school year seemed to have piled on. “And I think I have a phone interview around 6:30 for that job at the bank I applied for.”
“Awesome! Well, good luck. I’ll save you something to eat!” I waved her off as she nearly tripped on her way out. “Clean your room.”
“Yes, mom.” I rolled my eyes and clicked on the Internet icon before logging onto Twitter. I was mentally kicking myself for signing up for it in the first place. I was now following forty-two people and have well over half a million followers. I had only tweeted once! Once!
I scrolled through my feed and read each of the tweets to kill time before I actually started my work when Liam’s name caught my eye. I suppose reading one tweet wouldn’t do any harm…
@Real_Liam_Payne: Walking this guy today !
Attached was a picture of his dog, Loki, that I had only gotten to meet once, and a very pretty blonde girl holding the leash. Who was she and why was she walking Liam’s dog?
Why the hell was I getting so jealous?!
I shook the jealous thoughts out of my head and closed Twitter and got to work on putting the finishing touches on my paper.

“Mels?” I woke up to the sound of Quin’s voice in my ear, and someone shaking me. “Mel wake up.” I sat turned to face my friend.
“What’s up?” I stretched my arms out and yawned.
“You were having a nightmare I think.” Shit.
“Yeah. It’s nothing.” I shrugged as Mitchell’s face filled my mind again. I hadn’t seen him almost a year, but he still had a hold on me somehow. I still had this insane fear in the back of my mind.
“Okay… I was just checking on you.”
“I’m okay.” I smiled as she nodded and left the room. I turned to face my open laptop and moved my finger over the sensor to light the screen back up on the article I had been reading before I fell asleep.
Who was this girl!? God, this shouldn’t be bothering me!
I opened a new tab and brought up Twitter and in a hundred and forty characters (or less), I tweeted about Liam in the most subtle way.
@MelsBelleScott: Sometimes you don’t realize what you gave up until they’ve moved on to a blonde bimbo.
Well… kinda subtle.
No less than twenty minutes later, a Sugarscape article was posted in my defense. I skimmed over it, but they seemed to like me a lot more than whoever this chick was… I shrugged my shoulders and shut my laptop down before turning in for the night.
Liam’s POV
“Hanging out with Jaymie again?” Niall asked as I walked towards the front door.
“Yeah, we’re going to see a movie.” I shrugged my coat on as I grabbed my car keys.
“So you two are getting pretty close, yeah?”
“It’s nothing like that, man.” I was too embarrassed to tell them that Jaymie realized she was a lesbian after our date. I could already hear them mocking me about it. (“Liam, remember that girl who realized she didn’t like guys after your date with her?”) “We’re just friends.”
“You said that about Mel—“
“There’s nothing going on between me and Jaymie.” I cut him off before walking out of the apartment. Getting over Melody was a lot harder than I thought it would be, but it was slowly happening, and being distracted with another friend.
~*~
“What you need to do,” Jaymie explained as she stuffed a handful of popcorn in her mouth. “Is win Melody back, and when she says she’s ready to settle down, leave her ass.”
“What?” I nearly chocked on my Coke. “I can’t do that to her.”
“Why not? She did that to you.”
“Yeah, she did… but I’m not gonna do that. Two wrongs don’t make a right, right?” Jaymie shrugged and I saw two girls point in our direction. “I think we should get into the theater now.” I instinctively grabbed her hand and pulled her along behind me.
“Thanks for saving my life from two thirteen-year-olds.” Jaymie laughed as she pulled her hand from mine.
“Hey, those two could send one tweet and there’d be hundreds here.” I scolded playfully as we found our seats in the dark theater next to her girlfriend.
