Half A Heart

I sighed as I entered mine and Quin’s apartment (her cousin decided last minute to not move in with her, so she still had my bedroom set up the way I left it) and tossed my purse onto the couch. “How was the date?” My friend asked from the kitchen as she walked around the corner. She had been bitter towards me since Liam and I broke up a few months ago.

“Eh.” I shrugged and plopped down onto one of the chairs, turning on the tele. “God,” I groaned as another One Direction commercial came on. This time, promoting their new album, Midnight Memories. It seems like ever since the breakup he was everywhere. “He was really boring. All he wanted to do was talk about football.” I sighed as I flipped through the channels. “I mean, Li…” I shook my head and settled on a rerun of The Vampire Diaries.

“You were about to say something about Liam!” Quin ran to the couch and sat down.

“I was not.”

“Yes you were! You were about to say that ‘Liam would talk about football, but not all the time’.”

“No. I wasn’t.” I rolled my eyes and tried to focus.

“Look, I know you, and yes, you were. You miss Liam. You’ve been on date, after date, after date, and you’re still not happy.”

Okay, maybe there was some truth to what she was saying, but there was no way I was going to be able to go back to him. He proposed, and I broke up with him.

“I’m perfectly fine, thank you.” I lied and walked into the kitchen and grabbed a water from the fridge. So what if it was my ninth date since the break up? So what if I missed Liam a little bit? It’s only because he was my only serious relationship. Sure, Mitchell was my first relationship, but not serious. “So how are things going with you and Niall?”

“They’re going good.” She smiled and met me in the kitchen. “How are things with you and Liam… oh wait! I forgot… he proposed, and you broke up with him!”

“I knew you would bring that up again!” I groaned and walked off to my room.

“Melody!” I heard Quin running up behind me and I tried to outrun her, but failed miserable. Her tiny body jumped in front of me and stopped me from reaching my bedroom door. “Just admit that you miss Liam!”

“I don’t!”

“You’re lying!”

“No I’m not!”

“Melody!”

“Okay, a little bit!” I admitted and pushed past her. “But I’m okay! I’m happy just dating right now.” I shrugged.

“What the hell do you mean? I know you’re not.” Quin placed her hands on her tiny hips.

“Look, he wanted to settle down and get married, and I’m not ready for that.” I shrugged.

“Who says you wouldn’t have been ready by the time the wedding actually came around? Or by the time you actually got to start planning it? You ended this relationship much too soon, Mels, and I’m here to tell you that you and Liam need to get back together. Right now.”

“It’s not going to happen.”

“Yes it is.”

“No, it’s not.”

“Are you sure?”

“Absolutely.” I nodded reassuringly.

“Well he comes home tonight.”

“What?”

“Ha! You saw your face light up, you miss him and you want to see him. Don’t lie to me, Melody. You still love him.”

“Okay, I’m done talking to you about this.” I side stepped Quin and reached for my doorknob. “But… what time was his flight supposed to be in?” I said, slowly opening my door and debating on what to wear.

What was I talking about!? No. I wasn’t going to see him fly in tonight…

But ten minutes couldn’t hurt, right?

“Seven.” She smirked. “Do you want to go?” I nodded and grabbed my shoes.

The airport was a bad idea. It was crowded and full of screaming girls. I didn’t even get to see him! What a waste of time. “Okay, so you didn’t get to see the man you still love, but—“

“Oh my god, shut up about it!” I groaned and walked to my room. “Good night!” I threw myself onto my bed and sighed.

I was mentally and emotionally exhausted and I needed to get some sleep.
