Chapter 28

~ Audrey's POV ~
*One Week Later*

I stand in front of the mirror and apply more make up to my sleep deprived, sunk in, sad face in attempt to cover up the pain I'm feeling on the inside. I never thought anything could hurt more then Zachary leaving me...I guess I was wrong. Very wrong. Me breaking up with Harry has to be the worst desicion of my life. And I mean the worst. The moment I left his condo something inside kicked and screamed at me for being so stupid. It felt as if I took it upon myself to stab my own heart multiple times and twist the knife over and over until it was only the pulp of my own heartbreak. I don't even remember taking a cab back to the hotel. I think I ran. By the time I was out of breath I had already thrown up in the bushes out in front of some nail salon. After that I walked to the hotel suite and just sorta...cried. I didn't even talk to Deborah and Joseph until last night. Once I explained the break up to them they told me that Louis had already called and explained. So I was mad about that too...but I got over it pretty quickly.

Today hasn't been the best. It's my birthday and Deborah has seem to forgotten. I don't blame her...I'm upset but I understand that she can't keep track of the days while we're on vacation. I brushed my bangs out of my face and took in my appearance once more. After turning the light off and exiting my room I sighed heavily.

"Aud...you ready?" Deborah's voice was soft, as if her words were any louder I may break.

"I guess so," I shrugged and she smiled softly.

"This'll be great! Just me, you, Joseph, andNiall." She attempted to cover the last name with a cough but I caught her.

"N-Niall? Like, Harry's friend?" I asked and she nodded nervously.

"I'm sorry! He wanted to hang out and I had no choice but to say yes! He's apparently bringing a friend too. Ashton, I think?" I glared at her.

"Ugh! I thought it was only the three of us! This dinner is going to suck." I muttered the last part under my breath and then looked to Joseph for any kind of help.

"Let's get going!" He chirped and I let out a groan.

"Thanks again for letting us tag along." Niall said to Deborah and I ignored all of their stares as I sat in between Joseph and Niall's friend Ashton.

"And I'm sorry for me just coming unannounced...Niall said it was okay." Louis said, and I kept my eyes on the menu. I really didn't need Niall here, and Louis decides to come! Fucking fantastic.

"I see you're not one for talking?" Ashton questioned and I forced a smile to my face.

"Oh, uhhh not really." I said and he chuckled.

"What was your name?" He asked and I felt everyone's eyes on me.

"Audrey." I said softly. His jaw dropped open as if he had realized I'm Harry's ex-girlfriend. I hate saying ex-girlfriend...

"I've heard much about you." He said and I nodded awkwardly. He turned back to making conversation with Deborah and Joseph nudged me with his elbow.

"Be nice." He whispered.

"I am. See this." I drew and imaginary circle around my face, "I'm all smiles."

A few minutes later of uncomfortable glances from Louis and Niall the waitress came to take our order. Everyone took their turns and told her what we wanted to eat and once it got to me I took another quick look at the menu before realizing I'm not hungry.

"Just a glass of water please." I sent a small smile to her and she nodded before walking away. Everyone at the table looked at me.

"Did I suddenly grow horns?" I snapped and they all backed off.

"Audrey, why didn't you order any food?" Niall asked and I looked at him.

"I don't have much of an appetite, I guess." I shrugged and Deborah frowned.

"The reason we came here is so you would eat something other than takeout." Deborah said and I sighed.

"You're not the only one who can change the plans." I said and she instantly knew I was referring to our guests.

"I said I'm sorry!" She whispered and at this point everyone knew what we were talking about.

"And I heard you!" I responded and sunk deeper into the booth.

"So, how has your week been?" Joseph asked Niall and Louis. I pulled out my phone and started going through Instagram. Some people commented on my photos wishing me a happy 20th birthday and I smiled.

"Great! We had a massive party at the condo last night. Everyone got completely smashed it was really awesome." Louis started and they kept up conversation about the party while the waitress brought my water and eventually all of their food.

"Yeah, we were playing truth or dare and Harry was dared to take Ashley into the bedroom for ten minutes..." Niall cut himself off and Louis hit his arm. They all looked at me once again and I felt my face go red. I looked up and my eyes flickered to the different faces.

"Niall!" Joseph exclaimed and I tried to keep in the tears at the mention of Harry. As if it were on cue my phone began to ring and Zachary's ID popped up. I showed it to Joseph and he looked at me with sympathy.

"Answer it." He said and I accepted the call.

"Yes?" I asked and Joseph leaned in to listen.
"Audrey, I know you hate me...you have every right to. But I wanted to wish you a happy birthday." He remembered. Joseph's mouth dropped open and he looked to Deborah in panic.
"You were the only one that remembered..." I trailed off and he gasped.
"that can't be true. Deborah?"
"Yeah, she forgot too." I shrugged and he sighed.
"I'm sorry..."
"Whatever. Well, I'm at dinner right now so thanks for calling?"
"Your welcome. Happy birthday." He said before hanging up.

"Why didn't you tell us?!" Joseph exclaimed and I scoffed.

"I shouldn't have to! And honestly I don't even care...you know? I'm going to take a cab home, I've had enough for one night." I grabbed my purse and everyone looked at me, wanting to know more.

"W-what?" Deborah asked and I looked at her.

"We forgot it was her birthday today." Joseph said and everyone's mouth dropped open in shock.

"We what?!" She exclaimed.

"Like I said, I don't care! I'm actually glad i didn't do anything! I was barely able to come here tonight...we see where that got me. I'm just gonna go back to the hotel." I gave Joseph and Deborah smiles and Niall, Louis, and Ashton just sat there dumbfounded.

"Happy birthday! 20 is a great age." Louis said and I thanked him. The others wished me a happy birthday as well and I looked back At Deborah.

"Can I please go?" I asked.

"No. This is the first time you've left the hotel in a week. It's not good for you or the baby to be locked up I'm your room all day and crying. You broke up with him, and you have to pick yourself up and carry on with your life!" She said harshly, but I know she has only there sweetest intentions.

"This isn't about him!" I fought and she rose her eyebrows.

"Really?" she asked and I sat back in my seat.

"Fine! But be aren't celebrating my birthday...I'd rather not anyway." I muttered and took a gulp of my water.

"Thank you for staying." She said and I smiled sarcastically.

"What I said about Harry and Ashely...you should know nothing happened." Niall said and I looked at him.

"You don't need to explain him or yourself...It's none of my business," I assured and he frowned.

"He-uhh-misses you." Louis said and felt my heart swell.

"I miss him too." I whispered and the two smiled.

"How's Nova?" Niall questioned and I laughed.

"Good...I have another ultrasound soon because something-" I was cut off by my phone ringing once again. I looked at the ID and dropped it to the table.

"What?" Deborah asked and I declined the call from my father.

"Why is he calling you?!" Joseph exclaimed and I shrugged.

"I don't know." I said and he called again. I picked it up and pressed the phone to my ear.

"Dad?"
"Audrey...I''me so so sorry." He sniffles.
"Wha-what?"
"She's gone...this morning she just...died." He sounded hurt, and sad...very very sad.
"Who?" I whispered.
"Your mother."
