Lala Land *BEING REDONE*
The Other Guy
Have you ever seen Aurora Borealis? I’m looking at it right now. Its colors consist of greens, blues, pinks and purples. If you don't know what Aurora Borealis (AKA Northern Lights) is, you're missing out. Basically, it's colorful lights that glow across the sky. It is said that the colors are spirits or spirits creating a fire in the sky. Whether it's spirits or not, it's truly a beautiful sight.
I'm sitting on the top of a rocky cliff, hanging my legs over it. I love watching these beautiful lights.
"It kind of reminds me of a mood ring," Ryann appeared out of nowhere and sat down beside me.
I scrunched my nose, "It does seem like one, huh?"
"Let's test it out," Carly popped up and sat next to Ryann. She hugged Ryann and we looked up to the colorful glow in the sky. The Northern Lights turned to a purple color.
"That must be love," I pointed to the lights. I suddenly felt a small sting on my arm, "Ow!"
"Sorry, did that hurt?" Harry smirked, releasing my skin he was pinching. The purple glow in the sky turned to a red.
I growled, "I hate you."
He chuckled, "Well then that means red is anger." Where did he even come from anyways? Why was everyone just showing up unexpectedly?
We all just sat at the edge of the cliff, kicking our dangling legs. Harry wrapped his arm around my shoulders, allowing me to lay my head against his chest, listening to his speeding heartbeat.
"Hey look, it changed to pink," Carly pointed at the lights in awe.
"Why are you nervous?" I asked Harry, referring to his heartbeat. Maybe the pink means anxious.
"You," he admitted. "You're too good to me."
"And you're out of my league, so I guess we're even," I stated before kissing him.
Ryann gagged, "Get a room."
I winked at Harry knowing exactly what to do next. That's when we both gripped each other tight and jumped.
I caught one last glance at the Aurora Borealis, noticing it changed its color to yellow. What does that mean? Oh shit I'm still falling!
I woke up to my body jolting. I hate those dreams, where it actually feels like you're falling. Then, you wake up because your body actually thinks you're about to hit the ground hard. I just shook it off and climbed out of bed. I looked in the mirror, peering at my messy bun and wrinkly pajamas. I look gross.
Last night, Harry and I stayed up watching movies for a while. My dad eventually came downstairs and told Harry he had to leave. It was late so I don't understand why he couldn't just let Harry sleep in the guest room. My dad can be so rude sometimes and without even realizing it.
I was too lazy to even change my clothes or fix my hair, so I decided today was just going to be a relaxing day. One of those days where you just sit in front of the television eating a bunch of junk food. Speaking of food, I'm starving.
I went downstairs to pick out something to eat for breakfast. When I reached the kitchen, I found a note that sat on the kitchen counter.
Lex,
We took your sister to the movies. There's leftover pancakes in the freezer, help yourself.
Love you, Mom and Dad.
Okay, even better, they won't be here to bug me. I quickly ran upstairs and grabbed my iHome off of my dresser, carrying it downstairs to the kitchen. I hooked my phone up the radio and began blasting "Brave" by Sara Bareilles. That's seriously my new favorite song at the moment. I began dancing around like the weirdo I am while heating up my frozen pancakes. As I waited for my pancakes to get warm, I slid across the tile and did some dumb dance moves, all while singing my heart out. I grabbed a wooden spoon from one of the drawers and used it as my microphone. I jumped onto the counter and squeezed my eyes shut as I sung. But I suddenly heard clapping. Shit.
I opened my eyes to find Graham clapping like a seal. "How did you get in here?" I yelled over the music while removing myself from the counter.
I turned off the music so he could reply. "I rang the doorbell like ten times," he laughed. Oops. "I knew you were here since your car is out front. Plus, the door was unlocked."
"I could've been out with my family," I crossed my arms.
Graham gave me the look that just shouts, 'Yeah right.' I never go out with my family. Before you think that's rude, let me explain. When we all go out, we have to do everything Gail wants to do. Usually that's fine by me, but it got old after the fifth time we went to see Ice Age in one month. Whatever Gail wants to do is a repeating process. And it's not just with movies: we would go to the park and watch her play for hours, we'd go to Build-A-Bear and watch her make her millionth stupid bear, and we'd go to Rainforest Cafe to eat every time. I love how Rainforest Cafe looks, but let's just say the food isn't as great as its appearance. So yeah, I'd prefer to sit at home and catch up on my favorite TV shows.
"Okay, okay. Whatever." I plopped my pancakes onto a plate and sat at the counter. Graham placed himself into the seat next to me. "So what are you doing here?"
"I wanted to see if you'd like to hang out, but I see you're busy," he joked.
"Yeah, busy being a dork," I laughed. "I'd love to hang out. I have nothing else planned."
"Great."
"Thanks for showing up when I look my worst," I smirked. If Harry was the one who walked in, I'd be upstairs in a flash, trying to fix myself up. He did see many of my bad sides, but I still wouldn't hesitate to make myself look less like a mess for him. With Graham, it's different. I don't care that he walked in on me dancing and singing and I certainly don't care how I look around him. He's one of those guys who doesn't mind strangeness, especially since he's an oddball himself. I used to hide myself from Graham in situations like this, but it’s happened so many times that I could care less now.
He tugged on my pajama pants, "You look great. I wouldn't even mind if you wore these out."
"Ha ha," my laughs were sarcastic. "Not happening."
"Eh, suit yourself," he scratched his arm. "Can I have a bite?"
I pushed my plate towards him and nodded my head. When I looked up at him, I saw him holding his mouth open for me to feed him. I rolled my eyes and ripped a piece of my pancake off, popping into Graham's mouth.
"Lazy Ass," I scoffed. He just chuckled while chewing the piece of pancake.
After I finished my breakfast, I took my iHome upstairs with me to place it back on my dresser. Then, I slipped my PJs off and scanned my closet for a good outfit. What do you wear when you don't know what you're doing?
I finally decided to wear a plain white trapeze tank top with a lilac cardigan. With those, I wore pale grey skinnies and black ugg boots. I also wore a dark purple scarf around my neck. I left my hair in its bun, but made it slightly less messy. I quickly applied foundation, blush and mascara to my face; I didn't need to take too long to get ready since poor Graham has been waiting long enough. I grabbed my black messenger bag off my bed and ran downstairs.
"Okay, I'm ready," I said to Graham as I walked into the kitchen.
"Wow," he gasped. "You look beautiful."
"I look the same as always," I laughed.
"My point exactly," he grinned. Did he just flirt with me? Okay, obviously when he calls me beautiful he's flirting with me, but Graham's a big flirt. He flirts with Ryann and Carly sometimes too. But he's never this flirty. I'd like to say I didn't like this side of him, but I'd be lying. I've always had a little crush on Graham, and I won't deny it. But he doesn't like me back, so it's not like anything will happen.
"Thanks," I blushed. "Alright, so where to?"
"Let's go to the park," he put his hands in his pockets. "I know how much you love the outdoors."
"Tis' is true. Very good Graham," I stood on my tiptoes and patted his head. "Lead the way."
When we got to the park, we noticed that hardly any people were there. This is good for us since we tend to attract lots of attention to ourselves when we hang out.
The first thing we did was run to the playground for the swing sets. I laid on my stomach on the swing and used my legs to rock myself. Graham sat on his swing like a normal person, but he twisted the chains together by turning himself in circles, so when he'd release the chains, it'd crazily spin him until they were no longer twisted. I stood up on my swing to see if I could reach the top bar on the swing set. Unfortunately, I'm too short, so I stuck to swinging myself while standing up. Freakin' Graham could stand up and touch the bar though. I don't like my height sometimes.
There's a fountain at the park, so that was the next place Graham and I went to. I pulled some of my change out of my wallet, and separated them into two equal piles. I gave Graham one of the piles and we took turns making wishes and throwing the coins into the fountain. At one point, we started doing trick shots with the coins. Graham started it by throwing the coin under his leg, to which it'd land in the fountain. I, of course, started doing stupid tricks such as spinning in circles and throwing the coin into the fountain. The change would make it into the water, but I'd lose my balance and Graham would have to grab me before I could fall. I'm not the brightest sometimes.
After a while, we found some little boys playing with their skateboards. Graham walked over to them and asked if he could show them some cool tricks. One of the boys surprisingly volunteered his skateboard to Graham. I stood by the boys and watched as Graham showed off some tricks where he'd flip the skateboard. When Graham stepped off the skateboard, he had me get on it. I hesitated at first because I'm usually clumsy when it comes to that stuff.
"I'll help you," Graham reassured me. He held out both of his arms for me, which I gratefully grabbed and put one foot on the skateboard. As I picked up my other foot, my leg began to shake and rock the skateboard uncontrollably. “Put your other foot on!” Graham laughed. When I finally was on the skateboard, he just pulled me around the park with me attached to his arm.
Last but not least, we walked over to the grass and laid on our backs with our heads next to each other.
“I missed this,” Graham smiled.
“Me too. I’ll never be able to do this stuff with Harry.”
Graham sat up and began pulling grass out of the ground, “Let me ask you something.”
“Okay?” I sat up as well.
He tearing the grass apart in his hands, “How do you do it? Go from one guy to the next?”
I furrowed my brows, “What are you talking about?
“One day, you’re leaning on Harry and the next, you’re crying in Hamilton’s arms.”
Oh. I never thought about that. Harry and Hamilton are the same person, but they’re supposed to be two different people. I’m going to have to be more careful in the future.
“Hamilton is just a good friend of mine,” I tried covering my tracks.
“Didn't look like it.”
I played along, “Do you think he likes me? I don’t feel that way for him.”
“Well he definitely likes you, so I wouldn’t lead him on,” he warned.
“Sorry,” I mumbled.
Graham sighed, “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have brought it up.”
“No, no, no,” I shook my head and placed my hand on his shoulder. “I’m actually glad you did. I didn't realize what I was doing. Thank you.”
He rested his hand on mine, “I’m glad I could help.”
That’s when I found myself getting a good look at him. Graham has stubble, I hate stubble, but he pulls it off so well. Then there’s his short hair which includes bangs that he usually places to one side of his forehead or gels up. He’s brunette like Harry, but his hair is more of a coffee shade. On top of that, he has almond colored streaks in his hair. Last but not least, his eyes are dark blue with a tiny inner ring of rust brown. I could get lost in those eyes forever.
“Uh, I should probably get home,” I shook out of my thoughts. The last thing I need is to crush on Graham. It’s a strong possibility I’ll be with Graham and…wait I meant Harry. Shit. Goddammit. This cannot be happening. I pulled my hand away and quickly stood up, trying to escape him.
“Wait!” Graham stood to his feet. “I drove here, don’t you want a ride?”
“No, its fine,” I half smiled. “I just didn't tell my parents I was out, so I should get there soon.” That was a lie; I texted my mom when I left.
He looked confused, “Isn't that a reason to get a ride?”
Shit. I've always been such a horrible liar. I mentally slapped myself. Lexington, you’re an idiot. “Eh, might as well let them wait longer. I just want to walk and enjoy the scenery.” Nice, that should do the trick.
“I could walk with you,” he offered. Dammit. Why does he have to be so nice?
Let’s try this, “No, that’s okay. I have to think about what I’m going to say to Hamilton.”
“Are you sure?”
I laughed, “I’m sure Graham. Thanks for getting me off the couch and hanging out with me today.”
“You weren't exactly on the couch,” he joked.
“Shut up,” I playfully hit him. A hug is fine, right? I’m going to hug him. I wrapped my arms around his waist and pulled him into a tight hug, “Thanks G.”
“No problem X,” he hugged back tighter.
If you guys are wondering why I’m called X by Gail, well that’s why. I called Graham ‘G’ one time and at first he started calling me L. But after a while he thought of ‘L’ as a lame letter and chose what he calls a more ‘mysterious’ letter. He started calling me X because he says I’m a pretty mysterious girl. Okay? Well, Gail started calling me X too, which made Tommy think that was my name. It’s just a thing in my family now. Whatever.
Oh, I’m still hugging Graham. What is wrong with me? I pulled away and gave him a genuine smile, “See Ya.” And with that, I finally walked away.
During my walk, all I could think about was Graham. He was so nice today, nicer than usual. It was really bugging me that I had to feel something today. Maybe it’s because Graham’s here and Harry’s not. Maybe it’s one of those ‘I want to be around someone’ things. Good Lord, I cannot be doing this now.
When I got home, I found my family eating dinner at the kitchen table. I didn't even notice I was gone that long, I was having so much fun.
“Hey Sweetie,” my mom greeted me. “There’s some chili in the pot. Help yourself.”
“Thanks,” I smiled. I did in fact help myself to a bowl of chili and joined my family at the table.
“Can we talk to you about something?” my mom asked.
I slurped up some chili, “Mm hmm.”
“It’s about Christmas Break,” my dad wiped his mouth. That is when I stopped eating to give them my full attention. “I've been having doubts about letting you go.”
“Why?”
“Going out with friends is one thing, but going to another country with friends…” my dad paused. “Well that’s different.”
My mom continued, “But, we do trust that Harry will take good care of you.” This made a smile spread across my face. My mom waved her finger at me, “I don’t want you letting him spend money on you Lex, not unless it’s absolutely necessary.”
“When’s it necessary?” I laughed. My dad gave me a very stern look. My bad, geez.
“If he insists, he can pay for your plane ticket. But I’m going to give you my card for my savings account. You’ll have enough money for the trip in there. It’s only if your wallet’s empty and an ATM is not nearby, then he can help pay for things. You will pay him back afterwards,” my mother explained. Then, she changed her expression and smiled, “That is unless you go on a date. The boys should always pay.” I laughed at that comment.
My dad still looked stern, “I didn't like how they spoke about paying for us, like we’re poor or something.”
“I’m pretty sure they didn't mean it that way,” I looked at the table. It’s very rare that I talk back to my dad, but when I did he usually got angry. “So are you guys not going to England with me?” I quickly changed the subject.
“You’re father has work and someone has to watch Gail,” my mom pointed to my quiet sister. Gail has just been enjoying her food peacefully.
My dad asked, “How long is this trip anyways?”
“I have no idea. I imagine until after New Year’s.” I haven’t really asked Harry that.
“Well ask Harry tonight when you chat with him,” my dad smiled. “I just want to know how long we’ll be missing you for.”
“Okay.”
*Incoming call from Harry Styles*
I've been sitting in bed for about an hour, just listening to my music and thinking some more. I usually just day dream, but how can I day dream when so many things are running through my mind?
I clicked ‘Accept’ after fixing my hair up a bit.
“Hey Beautiful,” Harry’s raspy voice gave me butterflies.
“Hey!” I practically screeched, immediately covering my mouth. I was so loud.
He chuckled, “I know you’re excited to see me, but maybe you should let your family sleep.”
“Don’t get too cocky Styles,” I waved my finger at the screen. “I’m not excited to see you, I just have news.”
He raised his eyebrows, “And?”
“I can go!” I squealed.
“That’s great,” he beamed. Why can’t guys show a little more excitement? Like, come on?
“My dad just wants to know how long I’ll be there for.”
“Until you have to go back,” he shrugged. “I’d prefer you stay until after New Year’s though.” That’s what I thought! But also because this is the first year I could have a potential New Year’s kiss. I know it sounds stupid, but I've always wanted that: To kiss someone and hear fireworks, literally.
“Okay, I’ll let him know. Oh, by the way, we have to be more careful.”
“About what?” he chuckled.
Geez Lexington, you've got to be more specific. “The whole Hamilton/Harry thing. Apparently we almost blew your cover.”
“We?”
“Yeah since I've been seen getting close with you and Hamilton.”
“I see. And who was it that told you this?” he ran his long fingers through his curls.
Do I tell him it was Graham? There’s so much tension between them that you could cut it with a knife. “Why does it matter? We just have to be more careful.”
“Well, you’re the one who says you don’t care if we’re seen. So why does that matter?”
“I…” I froze. Why did it matter so much to me? “Okay, you’re right. I’ll just tell Graham you’re Hamilton.”
“Wait, it was Graham?” Oops.
“I didn't want to tell you because it’s obvious you don’t like him,” I admitted.
He sighed, “Just let him think Hamilton and I are two different people.” What?
“Harry, Graham basically thinks I’m whoring myself out,” I gripped my wrist. Well, I figured out why it bothered me that Graham thought I was with two different guys. Harry just gave me blank stare. “Harry?”
“Just do what you want Lex,” he slid his hand across his face.
I scoffed, “Why are you acting like this? What’s so bad about Graham?”
“I have to go,” he began closing his laptop.
“Harry!”
He stopped and snapped, “What?”
“Why are you doing this to me?” I fought my tears. He was hurting my feelings. Just because he doesn't like Graham doesn't mean he has to take it out on me. He’s being rude, trying to make me sound like I sleep around or something. And then he’s just going to stop talking to me? Why?
“Baby,” he opened his laptop up more. “I’m sorry.” I stayed quiet. “If you want to tell Graham, you can. I don’t mind,” he seemed almost sincere. I sniffled. “Baby, don’t cry.”
“I’m just gonna go to bed,” I said while looking at the ceiling.
“Okay,” he whispered. “Goodnight Lex, sweet dreams.”
“Night,” I fake smiled and closed my laptop. I finally released the tears I’ve been holding back. Why me?

Why me?
