Bad Timing ♡
Chapter One
Adelaide’s POV
Her outfit
London was all I knew of the world. I’d been born here, I’d grown up here, and I was now starting my own life here. I’d just moved into my new apartment in central London, away from Manchester; away from my parents.
Now, here I was, sitting in the University of London, waiting for the dominant to call me to his office.
“Adelaide?” A man popped his head from around the door.
I stood, patted down my skirt, and smiled. He beckoned me to his office, and I followed his gesture as gracefully as I could. I tried to ignore my heart racing in my chest as I entered and sat in front of him.
“Adelaide! Hi!” He smiled cheerily at me.
“Call me Addie.” I smiled back.
“Well Addie, I’d like to start off by thanking you for coming in. Here at the University of London, we love receiving new candidates, especially ones like you. I read over you application… Very impressive.”
“Thank you Sir.”
“So, you won the International mathematics competition two years in a row?”
“That’s correct.”
“And Addie, how did that make you feel?” He folded his hands on the desk.
“It made me feel wonderful. It made me feel so proud too; like I could do anything.”
“That’s wonderful! Just what we look for in students at the University of London.”
“New students? Does that mean…?”
“Welcome aboard!” He laughed, standing up.
“Oh!” I gasped. “Thanks a million!”
“Well, get ready! I’ll see you here on Monday, correct?”
“That’s right!” I smiled, and turn to leave. “Which is tomorrow!”
“That it is, Addie.”
///
“And then he said ‘Welcome aboard!’ and I practically screamed. Well, internally anyway…”
“Oh my god, how exciting! I’m so proud of you, my girl!” My mum giggled.
I laughed back to her as I drove my car down my street.
“Well mama, I’d better go, I’m home now so I wanna get everything ready for tomorrow, because…” I paused to add extra effect, “I start!”
“Ok dear, enjoy yourself! Call me after your big first day!”
I sighed. “Alright mum, love you.”
I pulled into my drive one-handed and crawled out of the car, just to skip to the door.
I dropped my bag on the couch and pranced into the kitchen; swinging open the fridge.
“I need to go shopping…” I mumbled to myself, pulling out a packet of cut-up apples and fidgeting with the opening.
I walked over to the couch and flicked the television on, crunching on the apple pieces as I did so.
After a bit of flicking through, I found a channel with an interesting movie on. I placed the remote on the coffee table, without taking my eyes of the screen and continuously putting a piece of apple in my mouth one after another.
///
I woke to see only my roof staring back at me. I rolled over and sighed. There were apple pieces spilt all over the floor, now coloured brown. “Oops.”
It took me a minute to come to, but when I did, I fell straight off the couch.
“Oh shit!” I’d fallen asleep on the couch, and it was now 9:32 in the morning.
I got up and ran around, frantically grabbing my books and bag, knowing I had less than half an hour to get to uni.
I ran to the bathroom and pulled my hair up into whatever I could, then to my room to throw on any clothes I could. With that, I grabbed my keys and headed out the door.
I climbed into the car and frantically shoved the keys into the ignition and pulled out of my drive. A loud toot came from behind me and I screamed out a quick apology before speeding off down my street.
