Chapter 14: Party Time

Leila's P.O.V.

Niall leads me outside and calls for a taxi. Before it arrives, he pulls up his hood and puts on his sunglasses to cover up his identity. The taxi eventually comes and we pile in. Niall gives the taxi driver the address and we drive off to the party.

“You do look great, Leila,” Niall compliments, sliding his arm around my waist and bringing me close.

“Thanks. I’m really nervous for this,” I admit.

“There’s nothing to be nervous about. The only people you’ll know are the ones I’m going to introduce you to, and we’re not staying too long, either,” Niall tells me.

“Ok, that makes me feel a little better,” I lie, trying to convince Niall I’ll be fine. Or I’m convincing me. I’m not sure.

The driver pulls up into a bland driveway and Niall pays him. He tells me to get out, so I obey and he hops out soon after. The taxi descends the driveway and drives off in the opposite direction.

“Um, Niall, this doesn’t look like a party,” I say, pointing at the house.

“I know, the party is down the block. The taxi would never have dropped me off if he knew I was going to an underage party,” Niall explains.

“Wait, what?” I nervously ask as he takes his hand in mine and begins walking.

“Don’t worry, there’s nothing to be afraid of. I’m just going to catch up with a few of my friends, have a drink, and then we’ll go, okay?” he tells me.

“Okay,” I agree. Well, then again, there’s no way I can get out of this party, since I’m not familiar with this neighborhood and where exactly to go to get back to my apartment.

We turn the corner and I can see which house it is. Music is blasting at full volume and colorful lights are flashing through the windows, creating patches of light on the ground below. People surround every inch of the grand house, outside as well as inside, once Niall and I get in. We push our way through the crowd so he can find his friends, but manage to find the kitchen instead. Niall grabs a beer and opens the top, taking a small sip of the brown liquid.

“Do you want anything?” he asks me over the blaring music.

“Um, not really,” I answer.

“Come on, not even this authentic strawberry champagne?” he questions, reading off a bottle he grabbed off the counter.

“Ok, but just one,” I say. Niall fills up a plastic cup with the sparkling red alcohol and hands it to me. I take a sip and it’s really good, amazing even.

“Come on,” Niall shouts, taking my free hand and leading me out to the back. There are less people out here and the cool air of the night is a welcoming drastic change from the heat of sweaty bodies packed into the house. There are a group of people surrounding a small campfire in the backyard, and Niall leads me over to them. He takes off his sunglasses but keeps his hood up.

“Hey, Niall!” someone yells from the group.

“Niall!” other members chorus back.

“Hey, guys, how’s it going?” he asks, shaking a few hands and giving a hug to one of his guy friends.

“Who’s that?” a guy with a mustache, beard, and a few tattoos questions, nodding at me. All of his friends glance at me, and a few I believe just checked me out.

“Meet my new girlfriend, Leila,” Niall introduces, pulling me forward.

“Hi,” I greet, awkwardly waving my hand.

“Sup,” the dude with the tattoos nods again.

Niall gets going in a conversation with them, and now that my eyes have gotten used to the darkness out here, I can see the group a little better. There are about 6 people in this group, 4 guys and 2 girls. The guys are in jeans and plain shirts, one guy wearing a leather jacket. The girls aren’t wearing dresses or heels like me, but instead they’re wearing booty shorts and crop tops. I swallow as I realize I’m the only one in this group dressed up, really dressed up. I’m going to kill Madison when I get back.

I drink my champagne and try to focus on the conversation Niall’s in but they’re telling stories and laughing that I kind of feel invisible to Niall now. It doesn’t hurt me that it feels this way because he said he hasn’t seen these friends in a year. At the same time, though, I feel like these aren’t the people he’d be interfering with, but I don’t really know Niall that well yet. They seem fine, but they just look different.

I tap on Niall’s shoulder and tell him I’ll be in the bathroom. I cross the yard and into the body-packed house, heat overwhelming me. I push my way through these bodies and I manage to find the bathroom on the first floor, but the door is locked. I head upstairs and locate another bathroom, opening the door to see a couple making out. I quickly close the door before they realize and keep searching the second floor. I can’t find another one, so I move back to the first floor.

As I move throughout the house, I feel as if everybody’s eyes are on me. Guys as well as girls are staring at me in my full out dress that it’s starting to creep me out. I’m seeing that most girls are wearing shorts and tanks, some are in tight dresses, but they’re not as dressed up as me. As I pass this one guy, his hand drags across my back and slips my one strap down my shoulder. I swat his hand away and practically charge away from him, back in the kitchen.

I set my cup of champagne on the counter and attempt to look for some water. My mouth is dying for water, but I can’t seem to find any. I close the fridge door to see a familiar face walk right past me to the booze. I watch as she grabs a cup and mixes a few alcohols in it, then turns around and widens her eyes when she sees me.

“Leila! How are you doing, darling?” Spencer giggles, reaching out to twirl a lock of my hair in her finger.

“Um, good,” I reply, slowly taking her hand and moving it away from my face.

“I wasn’t expecting you to be at this party,” she slurs, looking at me with a pouty face. It’s obvious she’s already wasted. “I would have invited you if I had known you liked to party.”

“I’m just going to-” I start, attempting to walk around her, but her arm stops me.

“I heard some interesting news, Leila,” she begins, taking another sip of her drink.

“Okay?” I ask, not interested.

“It’s about you and Niall. You two made it official, didn’t you?” she calmly says. Hopefully the alcohol can contain her anger and I won’t have to see her blow up.

“Yeah, we did,” I admit.

The alcohol did the opposite as I was hoping for. Spencer’s face turns to rage and she steps very close to me, our faces inches apart.

“I told you to stay away from him, many times! What the fuck, Leila!” she screams. I back away but she steps towards me again.

“He’s mine! Get that through your head! He’s M-I-N-” Her eyes widen and she keels over. I step back just in time to see her vomit all over the floor. There is no way I’m staying at this party now.

I exit through the back door and race across the yard to Niall and his friends. I approach them and they’re laughing and having a good time, but I can’t take it anymore. I tap Niall on his shoulder and he faces me.

“Niall, I want to leave,” I flatly say.

“W-what?” he asks.

“I opened the bathroom on a couple making out, a guy ran his hand over my dress, and Spencer’s here and she almost just threw up all over me!” I blurt out, almost tearing up. I hate this party and I just want to go home.

“Excuse us,” he tells his friends, and leads me off to the side.

“Spencer’s here?” he calmly asks, his hands on my shoulders. I nod.

“I’m so sorry, love, if I would have known Spencer was here, I wouldn’t have invited you,” he apologizes. “Are you okay?”

I sniff and nod, but tell him I still want to go home.

“Can you just wait a few more minutes?” he questions. I shake my head no.

“Everyone keeps staring at me and I feel out of place because I’m the only one really dressed up and Spencer yelled at me again and almost vomited on me and I just can’t take it!” I cry, this time tears coming out.

Niall pulls me into a hug and I cry into his chest. I totally forgot I’m wearing makeup, so once Niall releases me, I realize I probably look like a raccoon. Niall understands and explains to his friends that we’re leaving and he’ll see them later, asking one of them if they’ll drive us home. They obey and the 3 of us walk down the block to the guy’s car, climbing in so he can take us home. Niall holds me the entire ride back and the guy doesn’t say anything.

We reach my apartment and Niall helps me out of the car, telling his friend thanks for driving us home and he’ll talk to him later. The guy says that it was no problem and drives away.

Niall leads me inside and uses my key to get in the apartment. It’s already past 11 and Madison’s sleeping, so I go in my room and take off the dress, shoes, makeup, and jewelry and brush through my hair, changing into my fuzzy pants I’ve always loved. I come back out into the living room and I see Niall on the couch, thinking. I’m afraid he’s mad at me, but I’m too tired from getting up early this morning and going to the party that I just ignore it. I sit next to him on the couch and without talking, he pulls me into him, laying us both on the couch and throwing a blanket over us. The comfort he’s giving me by just laying there is enough for me to drift off into sleep without worrying about the past events of tonight.

@leikelamichelle

Sounds good to me - other fanfic ideas are just as good as sequels! I'm certainly not trying to pressure you into writing a sequel, I was just curious as to whether you, at this point in time, planned on it :).

I do look forward to your new Niall (or Ashton or otherwise) story ideas ^_^
