The Past
Chapter 5- Disturbia
My vision was hazy as I looked over at the blinding light being expelled from my alarm clock. It was 3 am! I still had another three hours before I should be up and I somehow didn’t think going back to sleep was an option. Great! I turned my light on and waited for my eyes to adjust to the brightness. I switched on my computer and continued where I had left off on tumblr. I was disturbed by the buzzing on my phone. Who would be texting at this time on a Tuesday morning?! I swiped my phone, not even looking at who it was from. I read the message, ‘I can’t sleep either. Feel like watching a movie? H x’. I didn’t even need to read who it was from. How did he know I was up? I guessed the lights might have been a giveaway. His messages surprised me but in the best possible way. The thing was, I wanted nothing more than to watch a movie with Harry, but I knew my mum had a shift at the hospital around now so she would probably be up.
I checked her room- no movement. I went downstairs, and still she was nowhere to be seen. I looked in the garage- her car was gone. My heart fluttered. I quickly replied to Harry, and told him I would be over in 10. I quickly slipped into clothes that I could wear to school. Within minutes I heard a knock at my door. My heart stopped, it was probably mum. I went down to the door and nervously opened it. But to my pleasure, it was Harry.
“You didn’t have to come and get me” I said, surprised but suddenly blushing at his courteous gesture.
“I didn’t want you walking over in the dark” he smiled before taking my petite hand in his large hand, gesturing me to follow.
“Too kind” I whispered.
We walked back to Harry’s in silence. It was freezing cold. Even though, when I thought about it, I really didn’t know Harry very well, with us only having had a total of one proper conversation face to face, yet I felt like I knew him inside out and felt safe in his company. I shivered as the wind blew towards us, blowing my lose strands of hair over my face. He pulled me close to him and wrapped his overcoat around the both of us. I leant my head on his shoulder as we walked. What was happening? I, the most unromantic, sceptic of love, was cuddling up with a boy that I barely knew. I was one of those girls who became infatuated with boys they barely knew. He had barely been present in my life, yet he had made a large indent and already entered my mind more then he could possibly imagine.
“Where are you parents?” I said, warily watching his reaction as we entered his room.
Even though I knew the rumours, I wanted to hear it for myself. I sat on his bed as his emotions went cold. He looked hurt, and saddened by my words.
“Oh, I’m sorry, you don’t have to answer” I said, quickly trying to fix up my clumsy and distasteful mistake.
“No, it’s okay, I just, I haven’t been asked that in a while. My parents died, in an accident about three years ago.” He looked up at me forcing a sad smile before looking away. “So what movie” he said trying to lighten the almost awkward mood that had transpired.
“We could go something scary” I made an evil face in an attempt to be funny.
He laughed. His laugh made my heart do a funny dance. His laugh was mesmerising, and it made me feel like I was falling for him in every way at a very fast pace. I smiled trying to cover how frightened I was at that thought.
“Alright, we’ve got Disturbia? Have you seen that?” He enquired.
“Nope”
“Great, me either” he smirked.
The movie began and he lay next to me. I don’t think he was all that into the movie because every time I would get scared or laugh he would just stare at me. He would stare at me in the kind of way I wanted to look at him. And every time I covered my eyes he would put his arm around me in comfort. And for the very first time, I believed in love at first sight because I had fallen, and I had fallen hard and fast.
