The Past
Chapter 4- Double Trouble
“You were pregnant with twins.” The doctor said.
“WHAT?!” I was stunned.
“How was this not picked up in an ultra sound?” Harry asked, almost as stunned as me.
“I have no idea! I didn’t realise that you weren’t aware about the twin situation until a moment ago. This is a rare case that we barely come across.”
“How is my other baby?” I asked frantically.
“The other baby is a girl, but she is not an identical twin. She is a lot more stable then the first baby that I was talking about before. She is still in ICU but a lot stronger. There was no cord wrapped around her neck.”
“This can’t be happening” I looked at the doctor in shock.
“We are very sorry that this was not picked up.” The doctor sympathised before leaving the room.
Harry and I just looked at each other and then instantaneously broke into tears of happiness. We had been blessed.

“Emma” I suggested.
Harry and I piled into the ICU room, which held the humidicrib to our first baby who was in a much more serious state. It was the first time we were allowed to see her, and it had been nearly two full days since she was born. Her tiny body was sprawled out. Tubes and ventilators surrounded her.
We decided we didn’t want to leave the name thing any longer, and that the baby deserved a name to be called instead of just ‘the first baby’.
“No, lovely name, but too common.” Harry said.
“Elizabeth!” I asked with a little bit of excitement.
Harry frowned, “Not our queen.” His expression changed and it looked as though he was deep in thought. “I know!” He said “What about we name her Sophia”
I liked it. I really liked it. I smiled. “Sophia” I repeated. “She looks like a Sophia.”
He hugged me and kissed my cheek. We both looked at the fragile baby, whose chest made dramatic heaves and called her name. It felt right and I instantly knew that the name was perfect.
We walked over to the cot of the much healthier baby, or who we referred to as baby 2 (as she was technically born second). She was in the normal nursery and was much stronger. We had spent the entire day yesterday with her.
“Okay, now we really have to decide on her name!” Harry said.
“Either, Katie, Addison or Abby.” I repeated the choices that we had come up with yesterday.
“This is too difficult!” Harry continued. “I love all of them!”
“I really Katie and Addison” I said “But I really think she looks like an Abby”
“Yeah, I think Abby is probably the most suited” He agreed.
“Let’s get a photo of the moment we named Abby!” I said as I shot the camera in Harry’s direction.
He looked like such a great father holding the little baby. I snapped the photo. It was perfect.
The following two weeks were hell. They travelled so slowly it was as though time hadn’t moved. After Sophia had finally made it through the two weeks, it felt as though a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. Sophia was stronger and Abby had grown even in the two weeks. After that Sophia and Abby were required to stay in hospital for another 3 weeks until they were at an age that was reasonable for a healthy birth.
When it was time to take them home, the twins were dressed in matching outfits, which Tabby had bought for us. They were nice and woolly which was perfect for the frosty weather.
