The Past
Chapter 3- The new boy
I waited at the gates for Tabby, my best friend, to arrive so I could drop her home. She seriously took forever, and I just wanted to get home so I could do what I had so badly wanted to this morning. The weather was still perfect for it with the closing storm that seemed to be creeping over our school. While I leant on the gate that led to the car park I saw a black range rover that made a noticeable exit by screeching around the corners and leaving a cloud of dust behind it. As it sped from the premises, I noticed the hair that belonged to the driver was one I would recognise anywhere. Harry.
Tabby’s dark hair finally caught my eyes as she totted through the gates a good 5 minutes later. We walked to my car making small talk about the new English assignment that we had already been assigned. When we got into the car, the leather seats were freezing from the current weather pattern. I turned up the heater in attempt to keep us from freezing.
“So did you see that new boy today?” I said casually as I started the car, trying to look uninterested.
“Who?” She replied, caught off guard.
“I think his name was Harry” I replied as if I wasn’t sure.
“Oh, right, Harry. Yeah I heard about him. Apparently he is like a year older then us and just appeared out of no-where. No one knows who he is. Apparently his parents died in a car crash and he is living on his own. I don’t think he is very social, he hasn’t really spoken to anyone.” She rambled on.
But my mind stuck on her last line. It was probably the most insignificant thing she had to say, however it stuck in my head. If this was true then why had he made an effort with me? Although minor, it was exciting and mysteries were just what I like. His past seems dark, and he kind of seems like a bad boy. Not in what Tabby had to say, just the vibe I got from when I had spoke to him. Even though deep in my heart, I knew that was the type of boy I should avoid, I couldn’t help but feel I heavy pull to Harry. Why did his combination of charm and mystery turn me on? He sounded challenging and a challenge I would never say no to.
“Lucy! Lucy!” Tabby shouted at me.
I realised I had completely zoned out.
“You completely just missed my street” she said looking confused.
“Sorry, I just got distracted” I replied, trying to cover my reddening face at my interrupted thoughts.
It scared me that I could completely zone out and still be driving. I eventually got to Tabby’s and dropped her off before leaving for mine. I detoured back the way I came and went down the street that backed onto mine for a scenic tour or more truthfully, because I had made a wrong turn. I slammed my foot on the brakes as a figure came onto the road. The figure became clearer as the car came to a stop. It was Harry. He looked at me in shock. I paused and turned the car off as I caught my breath leaning my head on the steering wheel. Harry opened the passenger side door and hoped in the car. His presence shocked me further.
“I’m really sorry, if I scared you.” He said with real concern in his voice.
“It’s fine, but you seriously came out of no-where! What were you doing?” I replied, still trying to rap my head around the situation and who was sitting next to me.
“Yeah, sorry.” He looked down. “I was just trying to cross the road.” He smiled apologetically. “I live there” he gestured to the house behind him a little more enthusiastically.
It took me a moment to realise that he lived in the house the backed onto mine. It excited me that we were going to be neighbours and that I could maybe unravel the mystery that was Harry Styles. Plus it was always fun to have a neighbour that was your age.
“I’m okay” I said smiling, “I’ll see you around neighbour”.
He looked confused.
“My house backs onto yours” I said with a laugh, knowing I had confused him.
He smiled, took my phone and dialled in his number, than his phone buzzed and I realised he had just given himself my number. I couldn’t help but laugh at how smooth he was; he didn’t even have to ask for it. He opened the door before getting out of the car.
“I’ll see you around neighbour” he said with a smile on his face before shutting the door.
