The Past
Chapter 14- Betrayed
I was about half way home when a car pulled up next to me. It wasn’t a car I was familiar with so I began to get nervous.
“Lucy” an Irish accent yelled.
The voice was familiar.
“I am going to Hazza’s now if you want a lift home?” he said.
Usually I would have just declined and used the exercise as time to think, but I kind of thought Niall would be able to explain my situation better to Harry. I jumped in the car. Niall was such a nice and genuine guy. He had been so kind to me when we went to Harry’s home town. He was one of Harry’s mate’s before his parents had died and before stuff went messy. He stuck around after all these years.
“What are you doing on this side of town?” I joked to Niall.
“Ya know... missed you two too much, had to come back and see you” he joked back. “Nah, my friends mum recently passed so I’m here for her funeral tomorrow, and then I am back home tomorrow night. It’s only a short trip so I thought I would come and see Harry and you today.”
Niall and I talked about all the things that had been happening, and most recently about the misunderstanding in the carpark.
“Harry can be one to jump to conclusions. He probably just left because he knew that if he stayed and heard the truth, he would have bashed the guy to death.”
I flinched at his violent words. Harry- deadly? Maybe he was just exaggerating. I laughed nervously, trying to lighten the mood.
“Look we can go and find him together. He said he was probably going out for a drink at the pub this afternoon, and if he wasn’t home, to meet him there. So I’ll check if he is home and if not I’ll take you to the pub.”
“I am still seventeen” I said to Niall, disappointed about the barrier of my illegal age.
“No problem, Harry knows a lot of people. We’ll get you in easy.” He replied.
It kind of made me happy and nervous that he had such a wide range of connections, especially these kind of connections.
We got to Harry’s house, but it was empty, not a sign of life inside. Our next stop- the pub. This was going to be an experience. The pub was a down class, dirty room that smelt of beers and stripers. Yes, not a strip club, but the girls in there may as well be so with their outfits and promiscuity. Niall had made me change at Harry’s into a short dress and heels which made me look about 5 years older than I was. I guess that was what he was going for. We had no trouble getting in to the bar. Niall just gave the bouncer a nod and we walked right in. I looked around, but Harry was nowhere in sight as I scanned the bench. I looked behind me in the booths, but still no Harry in sight.
“Can you see him?” I shouted at Niall, who still struggled to hear me over the music.
I would say this place is less like a pub and more like a nightclub. I walked out the back, while Niall continued to search the room. When I exited the back door the cold wind hit me like ice. I shuddered. The alley way that I had entered was creepy and I no longer felt safe. I took a quick look, knowing that I probably wouldn’t find what I wanted anyway in a place like this. I turned to go back inside. As I turned a shadow caught my eye. In the far left corner of the alleyway a shadow moved. I walked closer to suss out the situation. That’s when I saw a girl moaning her head burrowed into the man’s neck. Her face was dark, and I couldn’t see her features clearly. I realised that they were having sex. Ew, I hated when people did this in public. So open and gross and I felt as though I was violating whatever was going on. I was about to turn away, when I heard the girl moan a name that was all too familiar.
“Harry” the word escaped her lips.
I turned. No. It couldn’t be. I stayed listening, just incase it was some other Harry. I prayed that, that was the case.
“Tabby” the familiar voice groaned. It was Harry, and with that not so common name that left his lips, the horror hit me.
“Are you fucking kidding me?” I shouted at the pair. “No, this is un-fucking-believable. Fuck you both. I hope you are very happy together!” I huffed before turning and walking towards the door of the club.
Niall caught me. “I didn’t have any luck, did you?” he said, oblivious to what I just witnessed.
“Oh yeah, you’ll find him outside, screwing my best friend!” I screamed.
He looked at me in disbelief.
“I’m sorry Lucy, I can’t believe him. I’ll drive you home.”
I ran out to Niall’s car in tears. I just couldn’t believe it. I fell for him, and he completely wrecked me. And as for Tabby, she may as well be dead. I flinched at the harshness of my words. Oh well, it’s not like she ever cared about me anyway. When Niall got into the car beside me I saw Harry exiting the pub. He looked around searching until his eyes locked with mine through the glass window. He looked angry and upset. But I felt nothing towards the curly haired boy in front of me. I didn’t feel hurt or angry or sad. I felt nothing. It was as though he was a stranger and I had never locked my eyes with his green orbs before. Niall revved the engine and sped off, my eyes moving from Harry’s gaze. This was unforgivable.
