The Past
Chapter 13- It Was A Favour
This first day back at school was a bore, and both Harry and I wished for the holidays back so we could spend everyday together, without the worry of school. With all this work facing us, holidays already seemed like a lifetime ago, and I knew this term would be the most demanding. The day went pretty quickly so when I went out the parking lot to wait for Harry, I was surprised that he wasn’t already waiting for me. He was always much quicker than me. I waited by his car and leant on the passenger door, scrolling through my boring facebook newsfeed. This random was now in a relationship with this random. This random changed their profile picture. That was the problem with adding every single person I had heard of just to get my friends count up in year 8. Second to my obsession with liking every page that had any relevance to my life that now seemed to spam my newsfeed even years later. After facebook, I tried instagram- no luck, the posts were all the same, and no one that I actually cared about had posted today. But then there was tumblr. It was different. The posts were always important, always relevant and every single one I wanted to see. I knew none of the people I followed, yet they were some of my favourite people because I got to see a part of them they showed no one else. I looked up and saw a boy leaning against the car. I was shocked to find that the boy wasn’t Harry. It was a boy that I recognised from my grade, but one that I had never talked to before. He was one of the ‘cool’ boys, who I knew would never have time for someone like me.
“Yes?” I asked in anticipation.
“Lucy? Right?” the boy asked kindly.
“Um, yes.” I replied a little annoyed that he wasn’t Harry and a little confused by his sudden urge to talk to me.
“Sorry, how rude of me, I’m Jack. I’m in your English and history class.” He smiled politely.
“I know who you are. So what’s up?” I asked trying to get to the bottom of this strange inquisition, without trying to sound too rude.
“Nothing much. I’ve just wanted to come up and say hey for ages and never got around to it. You’re very beautiful.” He said, touching my arm.
I flinched at his touch. His finger traced my skin towards my collar bone. He stepped closer to me, brushing my hair behind my ear. I stepped back, but was stopped by Harry’s car.
“You should go, my boyfriend will be here any minute” I warned.
“Harry Styles?” he questioned. “Come on, I didn’t think the rumours were true, but you actually went for the nut job. You know he is fucking crazy right?”
“You don’t know anything about him.” I spat as he brushed his hand down my back.
He laughed. I put my hands around his hips, ready to push him away but a voice broke my thought.
“Lucy?” Harry spoke, his voice full of hurt.
“Harry! Thank god you’re here. Can you help get this creep off of me?” I replied, hoping he would believe and help me.
“Really? Because it looked to me like you were all for it Lucy” he said to me. “You know what? You can find your own way home today. I’m sure that you’re good friend Jack here would be happy to drop you home, or whatever” he said before hoping into his car and driving off.
He couldn’t seriously believe this right?! He hadn’t even given me the chance to explain.
“What the hell, Jack” I yelled at the boy, shoving him away from me in force. “Thank you for that” I spat before walking off. “Arsehole” I muttered, loud enough for him to hear as I kicked the gravel under my foot.
“Oh, come on Baby, I was doing you a favour.” He teased.
“Fuck off.” I replied to his antagonising words.
Just when I thought that I couldn’t have any more room for arseholes in my life. Great, looks like I was in for a long walk home.
“Yes?” I asked in anticipation.
