The Love Gamble

Chapter One

Trinity's POV

Holding the deck in one hand I pinched the front right corner of the top card. From there I threw two cards to each of the players surrounding my table. The player closest to me glanced at his card, squinting at the number in the corner. It was an ace and nine. "Hit me," he slurred.

What a stupid move, I thought to myself, he was almost to twenty-one, too. But I proceeded in handing him another card. As I predicted, he had busted. The man threw his middle finger up into the air, yelling curse words at me until security guards hauled him away.

"Oh, dear," a blonde boy with an Irish accent said, chuckling to himself. "Can I have the open seat?" He asked kindly and I nodded.

A few more rounds of Blackjack were played. It wasn't long before all of the players were drunk, full of more liquor than their bodies' could handle. This was my time to take advantage of that.

"All right!" I yelled across the room. "It's at least twenty-five to play after nine o'clock so pay up gentleman!" I winked at one of drunken men in the crowd. He stumbled across the room towards me until he collapsed, falling to the floor. Five minutes later he was hauled away by paramedics to be taken to the hospital.

"People here are so weird." The same boy from earlier muttered, taking another swig of his bear.

"Thanks." I snorted.

The boy stared at me confused. "I wasn't talking about you."

"Oh, sorry." I apologised.

"It's okay," he mumbled. "Aren't you going to start another round soon?" He asked looking hopeful.

I sighed. "No, not unless I get more players. It's a minim of two."

"Well," the boy smirked. "I should be able to bring a few more people over here." He pulled out his phone for a brief moment then smiled at me. "They're on their way." He said.

I was dumbfounded. "What's your name?"

"Niall Horan." He said, still smiling.

"Thank you, Mr.Horan-"

"Niall." He corrected.

I pursed my lips in annoyance. "Thank you, Niall, for showing such gratitude and kindness towards me."

Niall let out a loud, good-hearted laugh. "Much better."

This time I was the one to smile. I started to shuffle the cards when someone tapped my shoulder. My first instinct was to turn around and so I did. Standing in front of me was the most gorgeous boy I had ever seen in my life. From the little bit of skin exposed underneath his t-shirt I saw tattoos. They weren't obnoxious like some of the ones I had seen before, they were nice. His hair was wild and curly; his green eyes piercing. Everything about this boy was, well,- perfect.
