It Couldn't Be (A Zayn Malik Fanfiction)

Chap. 2

I woke up the next morning at 7:32 after a long restless night. I couldn't sleep because of all that coffee.

I jumped out of bed and hurried to get ready. I had exactly 58 minutes to get to school.

After I'd finally gotten ready after 30 minutes, I went downstairs to find my mom in the kitchen making breakfast. The smell of food made my stomach growl. But.... I had to pass today.

"Where were you last night young lady?" my mom said out of the blue.

I was not about to lie to my mom.

"I was at Starbuck's with Katie, and after she left I stayed for another two hours." It wasn't exactly a lie.

"Well, next time could you call?" she asked sarcastically. I could tell that her sleep had also been restless, judging by the bags under her eyes.

"Yes ma'am," and I stormed out of the house. I could not be late for school.

I got into my car and started driving, when about 5 minutes later my cell phone starts ringing.

I had to struggle to try to find it and keep my eyes on the road. When I finally found it, deep inside my purse, it was Jared.

"Um...hello?" As you could probably tell already I get nervous about everything. But that wasn't the word. It was more like hyperventilation.

"Hey, this is Molly right?" he asked. It sounded like a lot of people talking in the background.

"Yeah it's me. Hey Jared."

"Oh, hey! Um...listen. Are you free tonight?"

I waited a few seconds to make sure I didn't seem to eager.

"Hello?" he said.

"Oh yeah. I'm here. Sure I'm free," I said as nonchalantly as I could.

"Okay cool," he said. "Well, what time do you get out of school?"

"Today I don't have band practice so I should be home around 3:30. I have Senior Release." By now I was arriving at school.

"Wait, you're in a band? What ins-? Oh okay, I gotta go.... I'll pick you up at 4:30?"

"Yeah, sure."

"Okay great! I'll see you then. Bye!" Then he hung up.

I tried to find the nearest parking space I could. God knows I hate walking.

After I found a park, I took a deep breath, and tried to figure out how I was gonna get through this day.

I was so glad when lunch came because I hadn't eaten breakfast.

As soon my butt hit the chair, Katie shows up in a pant, all out of breath.

"Oh, my gawd Molly! Have you heard?"

"Katie, calm down, relax...."

She took a deep breath.

"ONE DIRECTION IS IN JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI!!!!!" she yelled at the top of her lungs.

I suddenly stopped breathing myself. I could not believe my ears. One Direction? In Mississippi? Oh my gosh!!!

We both looked at each other and then, started screaming. Nothing ever exciting ever happens here... But something like this is huge!!!

"Girls, girls," our friend Riley said as he came to the table. Riley was medium guy height, slightly tanned, and had brown curly hair that came just above his ears. His hazel eyes danced with amusement as he looked from Katie to me. "We still have a rep to maintain."

Katie and I looked up and saw everyone was staring at us. We sat down and started eating our food.

"Damn," I said aloud. "I forgot my lunch."

"You can go up there and buy a lunch," Riley said.

I looked down at his tray and saw a package that said "TASTES JUST LIKE REAL PEANUT BUTTER".

"Pass," I said quickly and looked over at Katie who looked as though she would explode if she didn't talk.

I was so hungry, I'd forgotten about the main deal here!

"Okay Katie. Tell me more about One Direction being here! Quickly. I need facts!"

"So you can stalk them?" Riley said with a grin on his face.

"Uh no... I don't stalk. Shut up and eat your substitutional peanut butter sandwich. Now Katie tell me!"

She let out a deep breath. "Okay, so you know 1D joined together with Office Depot to stop bullying right?"

"Yeah, I got the email."

"Well it turns out they're promoting at different places where Office Depots are located, and they are right here in Jackson, Mississippi!"

"Oh my God! Wait why are you so excited? You're not even a real Directioner...."

"Just because I get tired of you gushing about them doesn't mean I'm not a fan," she said and smiled.

"Okay, geniuses," Riley interrupted. "How long will they be here?"

"I'm not sure," Katie said. "I know for at least two weeks, but they will perform in Jackson twice!" She yelped.

"Did you buy tickets?" I asked. I realized that other people have probably heard the news.

"Oh shit," Katie said and hurried up and pulled out her phone. She typed a few words and then began to frown. She then started typing furiously into the phone again, which made Riley and me look at each other in amusement.

"They're sold out!!!" she yelled in defeat.

"Already?"

"Yeah! Obviously I'm not the only one who knew about this," she said sadly.

I felt like I wanted to cry, but I couldn't. I was so disappointed.

"Well we'll save up, even if we have to save pennies, and go to their next tour, okay Katie?" I said. I was trying to cheer her up even though I was mad as hell. I probably would've known too if my mom hadn't taken my Internet sources.

"Okay, Molly," she said. "Let's talk about something else. Who was that guy you were talking to last night?" She now had a wide grin on her face.

"Oh, well, his name's Jared," I said and looked over at Riley who seemed to be ignoring the conversation now.

Katie seemed to notice it too, but passed it off. "So what happened?"

I took a deep breath and told her the whole story.

"And now, I have a date with him at 4:30," I realized that I must've been talking fast because I was out of breath.

"Oh my gosh! Do you know what you're going to wear?" She said eyes beaming.

"Well, not really."

"Well, I am coming home with you today to help you pick it out."

"Okay Katie, if you insist," and then I started talking to Riley about last night's Adventure Time episode.
