How you see me

Mirror On The Wall

Kelly's POV:

I stared at the mirror in my room. I wasn't happy with what I saw. I was different than the other people. My mom didnt care at all about fashion. She cared about what was cheap. That's why I wore what I wore.

I also didn't understand the mentality of most of the girls i my grade. Why would you get up at 4 am to so your hair? But because of that I was different.

I didn't want to be different, so I changed.

Makeup was the one thing I could never do though. I wasn't very skilled with brushes and what not. Just one more thing to set me apart. Great. Hair was something I tried on. Notice the word "tried." I had no idea how some of those girls did what the did.

I couldn't just stand there and stare at myself though. I had to go to school and face the world that crushes any bit of difference and makes you hate yourself. Welcome to the world of high school.

I grabbed my overweight backpack, and hurried down the stairs. I called goodbye to my mother and started off to school. It was only about 3 blocks away, and the walk was peaceful.

The only issue was the fence. My school had a fence around the entire perimeter. If I went to the gate, I would have to walk all the way around the ginormous campus. Someday I would find a short cut. A hole in the fence maybe?

When I finally reached the door and entered the school, I headed straight for my locker. It was my third year here so I knew my way around. Girls who were practically identical, all their flaws covered by makeup strutted by.

I sighed, they looked better than me. It was no contest. I guess it was time for school to begin.

At lunch, I bought the crappy food they were serving, and scanned the cafeteria for my group of kids. "The Outsiders" as we called ourselves. I saw there was a different boy sitting with them, right next to my usual spot.

I was confused as I crossed the cafeteria. No one ever joined our group. Especially no one who looked like this. This guy looked like he was straight from an ad in a magazine. What was he doing with us?

I plopped into the spot next to him, the only one open, and he turned and smiled at me. "Hello. You must be the Kelly this lot speaks so much about. I'm Liam." He said, grinning.

At first I was taken back. His accent...wow. Finally I snapped back to reality and smiled at him nodding. He turned back to the conversation he was having with Tim, and I turned to talk to Jamie.

"Where'd you find this one?" I asked. "Foreign exchange student all the way from London! Hes staying with my family for the year." She replied.

Ok so another person to judge me would be around all the time. Lovely.

Lunch sped by as it always does. "Listen, can you bring Liam to English with you? I've got Phy Ed." Said Jamie. I nodded, and soon the two of us were alone in he hall.

"C'mon Britain." I called as he started lagging behind. "Got a nickname for me already? Might as well let them all know anyway. GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!" He suddenly screamed.

I jumped, turning bright red as all eyes fixed on us. "Never do that again." I snapped at him, hurrying through the hallway. "Kelly wait!" He called as I started to lose him in the crowd. Why couldn't he just be quiet like the rest of us?
