Chapter 25: My Plan (Harry’s P.O.V.)
I couldn’t believe what I had just heard. The car was filled with silence as Louis drove. We were had decided to drop Ann off near where she would be meeting up with Taylor.
I just sat in the back seat, trying not to stare at her. How could this have been going on? How could we…how could I have been so blind? The night that we gave them a lift to their car they were working the streets!
Louis looked back at me through the rearview mirror, his eyes full of sadness. I guessed that mine were mirrors of his, though mine were probably filled with a hint of aggravation. I hated that something like this could happened to two girls like Taylor and Ann. They were nice and just trying to find their place in life as they went to university. The fact that a lowlife like this Carson guy could come along and take advantage of that made me sick to my stomach.
Louis turned a corner and Taylor’s car came into view. Just as Ann had said, Taylor had left to take care of the night’s work all by herself. The only problem was that she wasn’t anywhere to be seen.
I sat forward in the seat and scanned the street, “I thought you said that she would be near her car?”
Ann looked around just as frantically, “She should. We never drive off with…”
She stopped herself as she could seem to bring herself to say clients around us. I couldn’t blame her.
Louis jumped in, “I’m drive around the block as see if we spot her anywhere.”
My mind wondered as we looked for her. I thought back to the night we found her in the alley all beaten up. I hadn’t asked Ann about that, but I knew it something to do with this Carson guy, which made me want to find Taylor even more.
I wanted to find a way to get them away from him. I racked my brain as I tried to think of a way to get them out of this.
We had just finished out second trip around the block and had still seen no signs of Taylor anywhere.
“Maybe she had to use the bathroom and ran into a club or somewhere.” Louis said, trying to keep our spirits up.
This; however, turned a light bulb on in Ann’s mind, “Oh shit!”
We both looked at her as she caught us off guard. That was not the response either of us were expecting.
“What?” I asked.
She turned in her seat to see the two of us, “We were supposed to pay Carson a visit tonight at his club. He was wanted to collect his money before or after our shift.”
It made my stomach turn how she called it a shift. That word just made this thing seem a little more normal than I wanted it to. But I thought about what she said.
“Ann…” I stopped her as she about to step out of the car.
I looked at her, “I have an idea how to help.”
Her and Louis both turned and looked at me in the back seat.
“How?”
I smiled, “You just have to answer two questions for me?”
Ann settled into her seat a little, “What are they?”
“Where is this nightclub and how much do you owe?”
