" I want a dog."

I closed up a box and threw it across the room into the pile of empty boxes.

" You want a dog?" Sandy asked, opening a new box, and unpacking things into our new apartment,

I put my hair up.

" Yeah.. I mean, I don't live in a dorm anymore... My mom isnt around to say no... Its just you and me. Plus, I would love to have some protection in here. A gaurd dog, ya know?" I smiled. She grinned.

" Yeah. I like that idea."

" Yeah." I sipped some water before going back to work on unpacking.

• The next day •

" We're done!" I said. We looked around our apartment at the beautiful, neat house.

Sandy out her hand up in the air for me to high five.

" Little hard work and elbow grease, we got done in no time."

" Agreed."

I checked the time.

" Oh my gosh! I have a job interveiw in thirty minutes! I totally lost track of time. " I ran to my room, fixing my hair and re-doing my makeup. I changed into nice clothes and spritzed some perfume on me.

" Wow... That was quick." She said.

" Yeah. I know." I laughed. I grabbed my keys and purse off the counter.

" Good luck M. "

" Thanks Sandy." I smiled before heading out.

" Well thank you so much for coming in today. I'll call you to let you know if you got the job or not. Thank you Ms. Summers." The big man shook my hand as I Left his office.

" No, thank you Mr. Sage." I smiled.

" Drive home safely." He said.

" Thank you."

My car was warm as I opened it up and sat inside, bringing it to life and pulling out and heading towards my apartment complex.

" Totally blew it." I sighed to myself. I could tell the man was being very fake to me.

I pulled up to my complex and walked in, being greeted by my new doorman.

" Hello Ms. Summers."

" Hello Ben." I smiled as I walked by. I stepped into the elavator. And was brought up to my floor.

Unlocking my door, I opened up the apartment to light. I saw Sandy sitting on the floor infront of the couch watching TV.

" Why are you on the floor?" I laughed. She shrugged.

" See for yourself."

I was about to ask what when I heard claws pad against the floor.

A puppy came happily running to my feet.

" Oh my God!" I yelled, picking it up. It was so cute! Puppy breath and everything.

" Sandy! It's even a yellow lab! The breed I wanted! Did you name him?" I asked. She shook her head.

" No. I'll leave that up to you. I'm not as creative as you are." She winked. I laughed.

" Alright. Can I take him for a walk? Think about it?" I asked. She nodded.

" Yes! Of course."

I nodded. She threw me a brand new leash.

I walked down that path way through the woods until a pond came into veiw.

" I think the best here." I told him. He just kept bouncing and jumping as we walked.

" Hyper little thing aren't you?" I laughed.

I saw someone sitting on my seat. I sighed, but I kept walking towards the bench.

As I got closer I slowly face palmed myself.

" Why are you here?" I asked him sitting down. He looked over at me.

" Woah, who do we have here?" He asked, greeting my dog. I smiled.

" I don't know."

He he looked up at me with those green eyes.

" What do you mean you don't know?" He asked. I shrugged.

" I don't know. Haven't named him yet. Want to help me?" I asked.

he laughed.

" Of course. What do you have in mind?"

Harry licked his lips as he looked up at me... His pink, plum lips...

" I don't have anything in mind."

" Me either."

We both sat there, thinking for a little bit.

" Jack." He spoke up.

" Jack?" I asked.

" Yeah, Jack."

I looked down at my puppy, sitting in the grass and looking at the pond intensely.

" Jack is sortof unoriginal don't you think?"

" Yeah I see what you mean." He sat back. I picked the dog up and set him on my lap.

" Blue." He said. He said it like he was positive.

" Blue? Like the color blue?" I asked. He nodded. " Why?"

" Because. Blue is my favorite color. And blue is the color of your eyes. And I love your eyes."

" Might as well name him Emerald." I laughed. I looked at my dog in the eye, with all seriousness.

" But he actually looks like a Blue." I laughed.

" See. It fits."

" Blue it is." I sighed, setting Blue on the ground, holding on tightly to his leash.

I leaned back. It was silent. Awkward silence.

" You look good. Better than a week ago." I said, trying to make the awkwardness in the air go away.

" Thanks. You look beautiful, as always."

I laughed. It got quiet and awkward again.

" Harry, I have so much to tell you. But I don't know how."

" About what?"

" Everything. Us. You."

" You know I love you." He said.

" Harry, stop it! This is what I mean! Everything that happened in the hospital should not have happened. You have a fiancé." I stood up. I don't know why, but He rised up infront of me.

Blue tried to run away but I pulled the leash back.

" But you don't understand Maria. It was like waking up to, only half a blue sky. It was kindof there but not quite. Like I've been walking around with just one shoe. I'm half a heart without you." He cupped my face in his large hands and bent fown, resting his forehead against mine.

I clutched the loop on the leash harder.

Forget butterflies. The whole zoo was in my stomach.

" Harry. We can't do this. You're engaged now." I cried.

" I don't care."

Just then his phone started ringing, and Blue began to bark at the foreign sound. Harry sighed in frustration.

He finally stepped back and pulled his phone from his pocket.

" Hey."

The he other end yapped, as I stood there quietly.

" Yeah. I'm on my way home now. " he replied gloomly. " Bye, love you." He murmered.

He pressed end.

" Dont want to keep her waiting." I said stepping out of his way. He glared at me before squatting down and petting Blue.

" Well, it was nice to meet you little guy. Keep Maria safe for me okay?" He patted him before standing up and looking at me.

" Goodbye Maria."

" Goodbye Harry."

We both stood there looking at eachother as we didn't know how to say goodbye.

He opened his arms and I stepped right into them, digging my head into his chest. I never wanted him to let go, but he did. It was suddenly cold.

" Bye." He said, walking past me.

" bye. " I sighed.

I watched him as he walked away, leaving me behind.

I picked up Blue, sitting down on the bench.

" Guess we don't always end up with the ones we love, huh?" I scratched behind his ear.

Guess not.
