This is How It Started

Nicole's POV:

“I expected more from you regarding the Desoto case, agent Moore!” My boss was practically lecturing me for something that isn’t my fault! I am not going to listen to this anymore. “( I crossed my arms over my chest.)Sir, I told you I couldn’t shoot him. There were too many witnesses, and agent Banks wasn’t helping either! I don’t think that he should stand there and watch me capture the thug, right?” The chief of the FBI, aka my boss, raised his eyebrows in shock, and didn’t speak a word; I guess I convinced him. “If that will be all chief, I would like to go back to my office now…” I stood up and tugged my eyeglasses to my face, and prepared to leave his office. “Before you go agent Moore, I want you to take a look on this file. (He hands me a file from his desk and I take it.) Read it, study it, and if you agree on it; then you are hired for this case.” I nodded and left his office like the rebel I am.
I walked to my desk, and placed the file on it. I took a seat and my thoughts drifted in a young picture frame of me on the desk. How could I, a nineteen year old, become a part of the police? And to top that, how was I able to become one of the best agents in the FBI? I guess this is what happens when you are extra smart and multi-talented. Was it my fault that I was a tom boy, well I still am but at least now I look a little female -ish. I was raised by my dad, and I remember that we always used to watch wrestling on TV, and we would scream like we were in the actual match… But since he passed away, those became immortal memories that I can never do again. I think this was why my dad trained me to different martial arts styles, taught me eight different languages, and tested me every single day on a gun model. I think my dad knew that he was going to pass away, that was the reason why he handed me over to Roy McLane, who is non other than my Chief right now. I know, it’s all shocking how my life changed. Most girls dream about going to university, finding their careers and independent lives when they are 17; but that was/ will never be me. I snapped out of my day dreaming once my phone rang. I sighed and picked it up:
… Phone Conversation …
Me: “Hello?”
Roy: “Nicole, have you read the file yet?”
Me: “I’m on it; I’ll do that right away chief. (Why is he so persistent on me reading this file?)”
Roy: “As soon as you are done, I want you to step in my office so we can discuss if you agree or not.”
Me: “Sure… (I think I sounded depressed in my tone) Bye chief…”
…End of Phone Conversation ...
I opened the file, and read the job description: “Undercover Agent.” What? Me? Undercover? Ugh! I hate these assignments! Shall I proceed reading it though …?
