Chapter 14
"Today's journal will be about an image. I'm going to draw a picture on the board and your going to right about it. It may or may not have anything to do with religion, but I want to get a feel for the type of writing you guys are good at. Now bare with me, I'm a sucky artist." Professor Hayden joked. "And I don't want your papers to be about how crappy my picture will be, I already know that."
Professor Hayden drew a pretty good key on the board, an old fashion key that is. Simple and easy to draw. Instantly my mind brought me to the logo of out gang. He one Harry designed himself.
Key- inserted into a lock to open or reveal something
Keys are like pieces of a puzzle, there are so many possibilities but only one that fits. Everyone has keys, we use them to start our cars and open doors, lock people out, and open things up.
In some religions something had to be proven in order for someone to be accepted or not. It was the key to gaining people's interests or respect. That is still alive today, in a small way. Like my friend Easton wrote in yesterday's journal about faith, today's society is a mess, everyone gives up so easily, nobody has faith. Not in themselves or anybody else. And in that same way, people lock people out because we trusted someone and put faith in them and were disappointed, so we lock everything up. Keeping everything to ourselves and in the end, someone's got to find the key. Someone is going to try and unlock that side of you...
"Nice writing everyone, I stopped by and saw a lot of good work. I'll see you all tomorrow." Professor Hayden spun around in his office chair.
"Just give me a minute, I'm going to talk to him about next weeks assignments, I won't be here." Easton picked up his journal and headed to our professors desk, me trailing closely behind. "Professor Hayden,"
"Please, just call me James." Our teacher interrupted.
"I'm going to be gone next week so I was wondering if I could have next weeks journals?" Easton got straight to the point.
"I normally don't give out assignments early, but where are you going?" James pulled up something on his computer.
"Las Vegas." Easton said a little too quickly.
"Damn, take me with you. Shit, I'm not suppose to swear. Don't tell on me." James cracked a smile and collected a paper from the printer behind him. "I read both if your papers, there were very good, I suspect you will do very well in my class." James handed Easton the page. "Easton and… ?"
"Paris." I took a step so I was more visible.
"It's nice to meet you." James gave a little nod.
"You too."
"Alright, thank you for this." Easton ended our time in the class and started towards the car.
"Las Vegas?" I questioned when we reached Easton's car.
"No, it's a gang thing."
"Oh, well good luck."
"Thanks. Are you going tonight?"
"Where to?"
"We are all suppose to go to some concert."
"This is all news to me. I've heard nothing of this concert." I really am getting tired of being out of the loop.
"I'm ditching." Easton concluded.
"I don't really wanna go either. Wanna go somewhere fun?" I had just the place in mind.
"Uh oh, what's going on in there." Easton poke my head.
"I know you like the water, and I here there is pretty cool water park around here." I smirked.
"Fuck no!"
"Please!" I begged and yanked on his arm.
"Do you know what would happen if someone from another gang saw us there? They would shit on us and fucking mess with the rest of them!"
"Why would they do that? Then they have to admit they were there too."
Easton sighed and considered it. "What if hey had a good reason?"
"So do you, they don't know I'm in the gang, so just say your girlfriend wanted to go to a water park."
"You owe me so fucking much!" Easton pulled into a parking spot I from of our building.
"Is that a yes?" I hopped out if the car.
"Fine." Easton huffed.
"Thank your!" I pounced on his back, giving him a big hug.
"Okay okay, get off of me." Easton laughed. "If Casper or Lou try to get you ready just follow through with the clothes, pack a little bad with your swimsuit and say you want to drive with me. I'll deal with the rest."
I nodded and parted my own direction, boys underground, girls above. My plan for the day was mainly just to hang low, stay in my room and study for other classes. If I distanced myself from everyone else could make up a good lie or excuse not to go so Easton and I wouldn't have to sneak out.
My whole plan was working out just great until dinner time came. Each girl came down dressed in full hair and makeup, nearly ready to go. Meanwhile I was in a black tank top and white jean shorts. Today was an exceptionally warm autumn day, in a week filled with cold and rainy days.
"Paris, please tell me you are not wearing that to the concert." Casper approached me and our table.
"Concert?" I munched on my bread and looked Casper up and down, not fully in concert make up and hair, but close.
"Didn't you hear? We are all going." Casper was getting a little irritated.
"No, i didn't hear about this, I have school and I live not he top floor, the word doesn't get around to me!" I exclaimed.
Out of the corner of my eye I could see Easton watching my acting skills. For the most part he looked pretty pleased with my show.
"Shit, let's go! If Harry sees that one of his girls is not ready, we are all fucked." Casper dragged me out, bread still in hand.
"Just find me something to wear, we can do makeup last. That way we can both eat a little." I suggested on our way up to Casper's room.
"Fine, but Harry is going to burst when you ride with him." Casper was rubbing her eyes.
"Wait, what if I ride with Easton? He's been giving me a ride to school, so what if I ride with him and make someone else ride with Harry? I can finish up my make up in his car, he won't care, and Harry never knows. " God, I am too good at this acting thing.
"That's perfect! Damn you're smart! Now let's get you ready, we are leaving in an hour." Casper yanked me into her room. "We aren't the same size, but I'll pack up your makeup while you eat." I shrugged, that's fine by me. "Okay, here you go, and I sent a little picture tutorial to your phone. Now let's go to the store room, I'll get Lou to meet us down there."
By the time we made it down and Lou was with us, we had only twenty minutes before everyone had to be pulling out of our street and towards the concert. "Okay, Paris, you go and try these on while I finish up Casper's make up, once you have one on come and model it off for us."
Each outfit that was given to me consisted of leather pants and some revealing top. But finally I found an outfit that would be easy to change out of and not revealing. I had a black leather, peplum tank and black and white striped pants. Edgy right? Pared with it was a set of uncomfortable looking staph heels and a clutch. Defiantly not anything I like.
"You look incredible Paris, like a real rocker." Casper rocked back and forth.
"Don't you ever say that again." Lou gave Casper the most disappointed and annoyed look ever.
"Whatever, we need to go." Casper strut passed Lou, clearly hey we're not the best of friends.
I shrugged and walked out with Lou. But as soon as we reached the main level, it was time for our little plan to work. Lou and Casper were suppose to get in a little fight, distracting Harry and making the announcement that I switched cars and was riding with Easton.
So with my bag of makeup and swimming suit in a little backpack, I literally ran past Harry to Easton's car. He had purposely parked at the end of the line so we could brake away easily without anybody noticing. I knew Harry was upset when I ran past his car, after all, that meant he was driving alone.
"Ready to go?" Easton teased as I literally threw myself inside his car.
"Oh yeah." I lit up.
"We better change before we get in or they will surly kick us out." Easton examined our risky outfits.
"Me first, you drive. And you even think of peaking." I changed from my Casper approved concert outfit into my swimsuit and more casual clothes.
Nothing is better than changing from leather to a comfortable pair of jean shorts and loose cotton tee. Seriously, any girl would know.
"We should be there in about five, be dressed when we arrive, we don't need to be kicked out before we even get it." Easton warned.
"I'm ready." I hopped over the seats and back into my spot.
"Good."
Fast Forward An Hour Later...
"You've got to be fucking kidding me." I stared up at the water slide above me.
"Nope, you're going on that or no ice cream." Easton stood firm on the ground.
After splashing around the lazy river and getting pushed all around in the wave pool, Easton and I were ready to go on the big water slides. We'd been on all the classic, tube and body slides you've seen at ever water park. But now, we were taking it up a notch. Truth or dare, water park edition. Which started off with me, going on the scariest water slide here. The Scorpion.
A thin, black glass tube, nearly going upside down, a steep drop and a side loop. They start off by weighing you to make sure you will make it around and not get stuck in the tightly enclosed slide. After locking the victim in, a countdown sounds, and all of a sudden, the floor drops, and you're racing at speeds around 30 Mph.
So yeah, you could say I was the least bit scared.
"I hate you." I scoffed and punched Easton in the shoulder before walking up the dreaded stairs. "I can't believe I'm doing this." I muttered to myself as I worked my way to the top of the tower.
"Yeah go Paris!" Easton cheered as he watched from a viewing deck.
I gave him a scowl and flipped him off. This is probably one of my stupidest ideas. And all for ice cream, is it even worth it? Of course it is! I told myself. I'm a girl who loves her food, ice cream is totally worth it.
Stepping off of the scale and onto the platform of the tube, the nerves were seriously getting to me. I'm claustrophobic, and being locked inside of this tube was not helping the butterflies in my stomach. And then the voice sounded.
3… 2… 1… Drop
I was not the only thing that dropped in that moment. I'm pretty sure my heart is lost somewhere in my stomach or even my butt. Who knows?
But in a matter of seconds the whole thing was done. That means only one thing… ice cream.
"Good job Paris!" Easton put his hands up for a high five.
"Nope, you can use those hands to give me money for that ice cream you owe me." I strut passed him towards the ice cream parlor.
"Here you go." Easton slapped down the money in my hands.
"Thought so." I smiled and ordered my ice cream.
"You really gonna eat that all?" Easton stared, wide eyed, at my large bowl of chocolate and raspberry sorbet, covered in whipped cream and sour worms.
"Hell yea, I earned this shit!" I skipped back to our chairs located near the exit.
"Damn, you're devouring that thing like it's your job." Easton watched me messily eat my ice cream.
"What's your point?" I raised an eyebrow.
"Nothing." He defended and put his hands up in surrender.
"That's what I thought." I finished my ice cream before throwing whipped cream at Easton.
"You know what, I'm going to eat this." Easton tried to intimidate me and mess with my lame attempt to upset him.
"Feel free, I spit on it." I shrugged and watched as Easton coughed it up. "That's what I thought." I mimicked his words and got up to throw away my cup and spoon. Just as I spun around to return back to my spot, I saw someone. "Oh shit." I murmured and hid behind a stack of tubes.
Any sane person would absolutely think I'm crazy. A girl hiding behind a stack of tubes, normal.
"Psh. Easton." I whispered from behind a plant after I made my way towards our stuff without being seen. His head turned and searched for me. "Easton, I'm in the bush, Harry is here. I need you to pack our stuff and hand me my bag."
Easton didn't need to be told twice, he instantly started packing our things and handed me my bag. "I'll meet you at the car." He whispered before casually making his way to the guys locker room.
Tip toeing into the girls room, I was finally safe. There is no way I could be found in here besides if Harry had brought a girl with him. So I took some time and washed myself. After ten minutes I got dried myself and started dressing in my shorts and t-shirt. Slipping on my lucky necklace, I dashed out of the front door as fast as I could incase of Harry turned around.
"God, what took you so long?" Easton put his car into drive.
"Only safe place." I shrugged and buckled up.
The ride back home was quiet besides the rap blaring through the speakers. You could say it was a calming ride, but you'd be wrong. And the car parked in front of our building sure added to the soothing mood we had going on.
"Where the fuck have you two been?" Harry stood, fists balled, teeth clenched, and anger boiling.
We are in deep shit.
