Story of my Life

Chapter Four

(Harry's P.O.V)

As soon as I had started walking, I regretted not brining a hat or something to try and hide my identity. There were more people out now and the risk of being seen was high. Still, I wasn't about to go back inside and grab something; I was still ticked at Zayn, though I didn't know why.

I walked led at a quick pace, as if I was trying to put as much distance between me and the house as possible. It made me sick every time Louis got himself drunk. It made me angry and sick. Angry because he was a moron for doing this to himself and sick because I knew there was nothing I could do to stop him. We had tried to take away the beer once before, but, like Louis had so rudely pointed out, we were oblivious to the fact that he had hidden more somewhere in his room.

My my phone vibrated in my pocket, cutting abruptly into my thoughts. I ignored it, knowing it was one of the boys. I wanted nothing to do with any of them, not right now at least.

I was beginning to believe that the reason I was furious at Zayn was because he had been right. I was angry at him because he had told me what I didn't want to hear, the truth. I was so distant from the rest of them lately and Louis was obviously not in the mood to be social. Everybody had been taking El's death in a different way, but we were slowly splitting apart.

I wandered red aimlessly and rather miserably around for a few hours before my legs protested any further movement. I sunk into a bench that was sitting peacefully in a secluded park, thinking I could stay here for a while longer before Liam, Niall, and Zayn came looking for me.

I glanced around the park, enjoying the quiet. There was only one other person, a girl, standing beneath a tall cherry tree a couple yards away. She had long dark hair that fell down almost to her waist and she was appeared to be reading a book. It took me a moment before I realized that it was Megan.

She didn't seem to have noticed me yet, so I decided to surprise her. I slowly stood up from the bench and walked as quietly as possible towards the cherry tree. Just before I could slip behind the tree's thick trunk, she looked up.

"Ah, you caught me." I grinned, leaning against the tree beside her.

Megan an stared at me for a while, then growled, "Are you stalking me or something?"

I shrugged. "Nah. You just happened to be here when I arrived."

She didn't look very convinced, but said no more and just returned to her book.

"What are you reading?" I leaned over to try and see what she was looking intently at, but she shifted away.

"None of your business." She said simply.

I frowned, then reached out and snatched the book from her.

"Harry!" Megan cried, looking mortified. "Give it back to me!" She reached over to try and steal it back, but I held it out of her reach.

"Nope." Still keeping the book away from her, I turned it over to see the cover. I frowned when I realized that there was nothing on the front of the book. "What...?"

In my distraction, Megan managed to snatch the book back and hugged it to her chest. "It's my journal." She snarled.

I blinked at at her, surprised. "Oh?"

"I like to read the old entries." She said, glaring at me. "That's why I didn't want you to take it."

I grinned. "Anything about me in there?"

Megan wrinkled her nose. "No. I just met you."

I shrugged my shoulders, still smiling; I found her amusing.

There was silence between us for a while, during which she cautiously reopened the journal and started reading. I glanced at the yellowed page out of the corner of my eye. Her hand writing was neat, small, but neat. I spotted a couple if names but they didn't mean much to me.

Megan shut the book, suddenly, making me look away quickly. "Stop trying to read it. You won't find anything good anyway." She said, tucking her journal under her arm and walking away.

"Wait!" I chased after her, bushing my shoulder against hers as I came up beside her. She flinched

"What do you want?" She growled, sounding annoyed.

I blinked. "Nothing." I didn't think I needed a reason to want to talk to someone. Honestly, it was surprising since more conversations with girls these days involved screaming.

Megan huffed. "Then why are you still here?!"

"Do I need a reason to want to talk? I don't get to have many normal conversations, you know." I said simply, looking at her.

She he was quiet for a while before rolling her eyes. "I suppose not."

Satisfied with myself, I stopped talking and walked quietly beside her, wondering where she was going. She didn't seem to mind me following her, just so long as I shut up.

"My friend is a really big fan of you guys." Megan said suddenly, making me jump.

"Oh? What's her name?"

"Jenna. I've never been much of a fan, but she's a little obsessive. Her favorite is Louis."

I tensed slightly when she mentioned Louis. "Really? He's not that popular, actually. Most people either like me or Niall best." I tipped my head slightly to one side. "Who would you pick if you were a fan?"

She looked slightly taken aback by this. "Um...maybe...Zayn?"

I chuckled. "Figures. You look like a Zayn kind of girl."

Megan said nothing else, just walked. The only sound was the sound of our feet on the pavement. She stopped abruptly bwrote we reached the city again.

"Bye." She said simply, turning her back to me.

"Wait." I held out my arm to stop her and grinned. "How about my number?"
