The Bad Boy Effect

Sunday

Harry's Point of View

I woke up to my head pounding. Why was I on the floor? I looked up on my bed and Ada was fast asleep. What the hell was she doing here? I guess nothing happened considering I'm on the floor, sore as can be. I looked at my clock, eight o'clock. Thank God I don't have work today. I got up and pulled the covers up on Ada. She looked so good laying there in her boxer shorts. I wish I had just asked her out the year before when she was a freshman. I had to be a moron and pretend I didn't like her though, "you can't date a freshman" my friends would say. I brushed my teeth and hopped in the shower. The water felt good running down my back. I got flashes from the night before,

"Get off of me!" It was Ada screaming. Who was she screaming at? I turned the corner so I could see a little better. "Niall." That son of a bitch.

I snapped out of it. No way, I'm imagining things now. I went downstairs and made some coffee. Ada was still asleep and I couldn't wake her. She was so beautiful laying there. I sat on the couch and opened up my history book. I decided this year I'd actually try. Everyone always saw me as that bad guy and I didn't want to be him anymore. My main reason for the change was Ada. I don't know why but she just made me so happy. Hanging out with our group this summer made my feelings grow stronger for her.

I heard a door open and then footsteps. I knew she was about to apologize over and over again. That's the kind of person she was. Why couldn't I see that before? I looked at her and she rubbed her eyes as she sat next to me.

"Hi," I said with a smile.

"Hey, I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to barge in here last night." I loved her morning voice. Her hair was perfect and I could tell she washed her face. She may have even been wearing some makeup.

"Don't apologize. I don't really even remember what happened." We laughed. I saw a glimpse of her arm, "Are you okay Ada? What happened to you?" She quickly grabbed her arms and tried to come up with something. Maybe Niall did hurt her last night.

"Oh yeah, I'm fine. Honestly, I don't know where I got these." She giggled. It was so fake.

"What happened last night Ada? I don't know what happened but I do remember you and Niall fighting." I know it isn't my place to ask all of these questions but her arms were bruised. I could see hand marks.

"Really Harry, I'm fine." She poked her arm, "See, doesn't even hurt." We were sitting close enough so I grabbed her arm lightly. She flinched and I saw a tear in her eye. It hurt.

"You aren't fine who did this?"

"I'm going to go now. I'll see you on Monday."

"Wait Ada!" She walked out of the door and I knew this conversation was over for good.

Ada's Point of View

I ran out the door and sat on the stairs calling Oakley. It was only eleven but I really hoped he was up.

"Hello?" He had just woken up.

"Hey, I know this is a lot to ask but can you please come pick me up from Harry's house?"

"What are you doing there?"

"Just please. I really need--"

"I'll take you home." Harry walked out with his keys. He looked exhausted. I looked at him, hoping he wouldn't bring up what happened last night. No one was supposed to see that.

"I got a ride Oakley, never mind." I hung up the phone and we walked to his car. I didn't notice last night but his car smelled really good. It was like a mixture of vanilla and honey. The music was on a pop station playing Call Me Maybe and we sat in silence. When I got out I thanked him and walked inside. When I got up to my room I looked out my window and saw Harry still sitting in his car, rubbing his eyes. I don't think he was crying, he just seemed so tired. He finally pulled away and I took a shower. Today would be a lazy day.

As I sat strumming my guitar I thought about Niall. Why did he want me to say those things? Why did he hold me so tightly? Was he trying to scare me or did he like me? It was the weirdest thing because I swear he looked at me in desperation rather than anger. It was like he needed me to say...to say....well yeah, say that word. I was a sophomore in high school and I couldn't bring myself to say it.

"Hey sis, how'd you sleep?"

"Ehh okay I guess." I looked at my arms, I forgot I had thrown a sweatshirt on. Liam sat on my bed.

"Did you stay at Sarah's? Someone said you went home." I shushed him.

"No, I stayed at Harry's."

"What? Why did you stay there? Please tell me he didn't do anything." I giggled,

No, he was really drunk so I drove him home and just put him to sleep. I didn't have a ride back so I just slept on the couch." I never lied--especially to Liam.

"Well good. So are you going to church with the new girl tomorrow?"

"El? Yeah, she's going to pick me up if you want to come."

"I don't think so. I have lots of homework." He chuckled and got up.

"Sure you do."

"Zayn and Louis are coming over a little later. If you want to invite some people over that'll be cool. We're going to have a bonfire out back. Make sure they know no alcohol though. Mom will be here and she doesn't want it here." I smiled.

"Okay, thanks." He walked out and I continued on my guitar. Still thinking about Niall and why I was so attracted to him.

The bonfire was fun and I was happy it didn't rain. Sometime the weather really bothered me here. It was always so gloomy. We rarely ever got to wear shorts and tank tops so when we did we made sure we looked good. I woke up a little later than normal considering the past two nights were crazy. I got ready and I heard a few car beeps.

"Bye Mom! I'm going to church with El!"

"Okay, we'll miss you at our church!" She was a little upset I wasn't going with them, but I think she understood.

I got to the old rust, red car and saw someone in the passenger seat. Niall. I didn't know if I was blushing or turning red from the pain he caused me Saturday. He was looking down at his phone so we didn't make eye contact.

"Hey El," I said as cheerfully as I could, "thanks for picking me up!"

"Oh, no problem! I'm so excited. And Niall is coming! I was so surprised. He normally never come with me! It's actually really good though because I will be in the back with the younger kids so you won't have to sit by yourself."

I choked on my spit. "Oh yeah, that's nice." When we arrived I tried multiple times to take off my seat belt but I was so shaky I didn't know if I could do it. When I finally got it off my door opened. I looked up,

"Thanks" I said quietly. He smiled for the first time.

"Course." We walked in as El kept talking and talking. She was a really great person and I was excited to have a friend like her.

"Okay well I'm going this way and Niall can show you how to get into the main entrance! I'll meet you guys out here afterwards."

We walked in silently and I held my hands so he wouldn't try anything. He grabbed onto my arm gently where he hurt me the day before. I flinched,

"Let's sit over here." He smiled. He was seeing how bad I was hurt.

"Why are you here?" I asked hoping no one could here us.

"I figured you'd be here."

"Why do you care if I'm here? Why can't you just leave me alone. And why did you do that to me last night." I looked at him with tears in my eyes.

"He didn't look at me." I'm tired of good girls. I'm tired of people pretending to be someone they're not."

"What are you talking about? I am good. I'm a good person and you're trying to make me someone I'm not."

"You didn't have to say those things last night."

I whispered sternly, "If I didn't you would have broken my arms!" He looked at me and pushed my hair out of my face.

"I know, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to squeeze so hard. How are your arms?" Are you kidding me. Now he was trying to be mister nice guy?

"Do you really want me to show you how they are right now?" I began to take my black cardigan off. He stopped me.

"See? I like it when you have an attitude. It's sexy." I turned forward and blushed. El's dad, the pastor, began to say a prayer. God knows I needed that. My thoughts were somewhere they shouldn't be.
