The Bad Boy Effect

Flowers

Niall's Point of View

I woke up and Ada was in my arms with her hand on my chest. Was that blood? I pick her hand up and her knuckles are swollen, bruised, and there's small a amount of blood. She either hit someone--Harry--or a wall, which wouldn't surprise me right now. I kissed her hand and reached for my phone. No missed calls and no texts. I then reached for Ada's, no missed calls and no texts. Finally Harry left her alone. I'm sure he's passed out or Liam killed him but still, he crossed the line whether he was drunk or not. I'm just glad I wasn't drunk. The good thing about not getting drunk the night before is that I can wake up at a decent time. Nine o'clock and it's time to get ready for work. I can't remember if Ada has work today so I gently rubbed her arm where I once left marks for too long.

"Hey princes," I whispered, "do you have work today." She nodded and scrunched up into a little ball. "What time?"

"One." I ran the back of my hand down her face,

"It's nine right now, do you need me to take you home?" She nodded again. Ada slowly sat up and stretched.

"I need to call Liam, I don't know If my mom's home." Ada called Liam and spoke with him for a few minutes as I put on some clothes. She was turned the other way so she couldn't see me. I listened to her morning voice, it's unsteady and a little raspy. I could listen to it all day. I pulled a hoodie over my head, not bothering to put a shirt on since I'd be coming right back home and she spoke, "Are you dressed?" I chuckled,

"Yeah, you can turn around." She did and stood up. I laid her clothes on the bed that Liam handed to me the night before.

Ada's Point of View

I threw my stuff on the ground and hopped in the shower. Someone knocked on the door, "Ada? Where were you last night baby?" My mom sounded concerned as she heard me sniffling. I didn't realize I was crying. I cleared my throat,

"Oh, I just got back from Elisha's house. We stayed up pretty late. Sorry I didn't call you." I really should've called her last night, there wouldn't be as many questions while I was eating lunch with her. I put on my makeup that covered my weary eyes. It hurt touching anything. I should've just smacked Harry, my hand was so swollen.

"What are ya making?" I put on my happy face again. I remember a few months ago when I didn't have to pretend.

"Some chili. Is that okay?"

"Mhmm, that sounds delicious!" We sat down and Liam joined us. We made eye contact, knowing to keep our mouths shut from the night before. I hoped my mom hadn't gone in my room. She'd ask about the--

"So where are your bed sheets Ada?" Shit.

"I just had some bad dreams and I sweat through them Thursday night. Gross, I know." I laughed it off. "I have them in my closet right now, I'll wash them later."

"Are you sure you don't want me to wash them?"

"No!" I responded a little too quickly. I calmed down, "No, you've been working so much. Besides, I have to do some laundry today anyway."

"Okay." She smiled and continued eating. "What are you guys planning on doing tonight?"

"I think I'm just going to stay in and play some video games. I'm tired of seeing the guys." We all laughed.

"Yeah and I think Oakley might come over. We haven't hung out in a while and we have some homework."

"Finally going back to your geeky ways sis?"

"You're so funny Liam!" I threw my napkin at him.

"Mom! Are you going to let her do that?!" He threw his back at me and we laughed. It was just like old times.

I thanked my mom for lunch and walked to work. When I got there we had a new employee--Joe. He seemed nice and I had to train him all day. I was excited because training someone meant I couldn't think about anything except for making tea and cleaning tables.

"So this is the really hard part." I looked at Joe with serious eyes. He gulped and pushed his glasses up on his not so smooth face. I don't know why he's so nervous, it's probably his first job. "See this rag?"

"Yeah."

"And this bucket?"

"Yeah, yeah."

"Alright, what you have to do is dip the rag in the bucket, ring it out, and then run it across each table." I smiled at him but he was too nervous to understand I was joking around. "Joe, look at me." I smiled, I'm joking. All you have to do is wash the table. He had to be only a year or two younger than me. "Do you think you can do that?" He finally smiled,

"Yeah, I can do that." I handed him the rag,

"When you're finished just let me know and I'll teach you how to put books on a shelf!" I stretched my lips and took a deep breath like it was harder than washing tables. He got the joke this time and I walked back to the front with Amy.

"So is he coming along?"

"Yeah, he's just so nervous."

"It's because he's a ginger."

"A what?" She looked at me like I'm stupid as she put some whip cream on a cappuccino.

"A ginger, you know...someone with red hair." I mouthed 'wow' and turned away. She's ridiculous.

I looked at the clock on the wall since I forgot my watch, four o'clock. We were fairly busy today so the time was going fast. I didn't get off until seven but I didn't mind. Today I had a study date with Oakley. I had to give him all of the details from the night before. My face started burning as I thought about it. Thankfully, Joe saved me.

"I finished everything so far."

"Great! I said. "Well it's four and I don't want to keep you much longer while you're training so let me just show you the backroom and then you can leave."

I introduced him to the boxes of books and the extra mugs. I showed him where we made the cookies and where we threw out the leftovers from the end of the night. "Sometime's if you close the store, Roger will let you take some home." I moved my eyebrows up and down but for some reason he was nervous again. I sighed, "Look Joe, you don't have to be so nervous. It's actually a lot of fun working here. You'll make mistakes. Hell, I still make plenty!" I laughed and he tried to lighten up. "Go grab your stuff and we'll clock you out. I patted him on the back and he left.

"You think he'll be okay?" Amy said as she walked to the front after delivering some drinks.

"He's just nervous. I don't know why." She giggled. "What did you do Amy?"

"I just told him if he screws up he'll be fired."

"Seriously? We need more employees Amy!"

"But he's not that cute. Or old enough for that matter."

"Grow up Amy!" We continued working, not talking to each other unless we had too. At five Scooter walked in to take Amy's spot. "I wish you came in a little earlier." I rolled my eyes as Amy walked out the door. Scooter laughed,

"But she's hott." I pushed Scooter on the shoulder, forgetting that I injured it pretty bad.

"Ahhhh!" I shook my hand and Scooter chuckled,

"I know, I know. I basically have steel muscles." I let him have his glory; he didn't need to know about my incident. At seven I smiled and clocked out. I managed to get out without seeing any guy I didn't want to see. I suppose Harry's at work and the rest of them are probably doing something non-productive. I don't know how they have so much money to do things if they don't have jobs. I started walking home and stopped to take my sweater off, I wish the weather would decide what it wanted. Yesterday it was cold and now there was a nice breeze. When I got close I pulled out my key and there he was, sitting on my front porch still in his bakery uniform. He had my sheets in one hand and flowers in the other. I laughed to myself. Flowers?

Harry's Point of View

I sat on her front porch and waited. Her mom said she got off work at seven so I made sure to get here at 6:45. I held her sheets in my hands and a bouquet of her favorite flowers sitting next to me. She couldn't hate me forever. I couldn't help but think about this summer and what I should've done.

*flashback*

"Let's play chicken!" Sarah screamed, drunk like usual. I continued to sit on the edge of the pool with a beer in my hand. I wasn't too drunk so I could probably play but I don't want to take the chance to get Sarah or Maggie as my partner. "Come on guys! Ada, you have to play!" My eyes lit up; maybe I will play.

"No, I don't want to play." She sat on Oakley's lap as he sipped on a beer. I hated that they spent so much time together. I wish I could ask her out on a date but everyone would make fun of me for taking out a freshman. Plus, I'm not about relationships. It's a hit it and quit it kinda thing. Liam wouldn't allow me to do that. Though if I did get the chance with her, I'd probably try to keep her. Oakley picked her up,

"Go Ada! You're playing!" She whispered something to him and then he whispered back.

"Fine!" Ada took her big shirt off and I stared. Wow, that sparkly bikini looked good on her. I looked away quickly; I couldn't let her see me. She got in the water with Maggie and Sarah. Maggie got on Louis, Sarah got on Liam, and Ada got on Zayn. "I'm going to win, I'm the only sober one here." I laughed, she was, Ada's such a good girl. Another reason I couldn't have her. They began playing and I stared at her, watching her smile and laugh and having fun. I felt someone sit by me.

"You can't have her Harry." I looked at Oakley.

"What?"

"Ada's off limits. For one, she's a freshman and you don't 'do' freshman" He put the 'do' in quotes with his fingers, "and she isn't a play toy."

"I wasn't thinking anything Oakley." Lie. "And who cared if she's a freshman."

Oakley laughed louder than I wanted him to. Ada looked over to us and we locked eyes for a split second until she looked away. She felt nothing. I was just a friend, a drunk friend of Liam.

"Alright fine, who cares if she's a freshman but you're not right for her. You suck at school, considering you practically fail all of your classes and skip way too much and you're a tool. You know how everyone looks at you. If you really actually care, you need to pick yourself up."

*end flashback*

I remember not listening to his advice. When school started I found a freshman, proving to him that I could 'do' whoever I wanted until I saw Ada. She looked amazing and that's when I decided I wanted to change.

She finally began walking towards the house and I took a deep breath. I'd apologize, we'd hug and everything would be okay. Obviously she wouldn't take me back but maybe we could be friends.

"Hey Ada." I made sure she saw my dimples. She looked at me, took her sheets and walked passed me. "Wait, I got you these." She didn't turn around.

"No thanks. I don't take flowers from assholes." The door unlocked and she walked in. I heard her put the deadbolt on and then she walked up the stairs.
