The Bad Boy Effect

You and Me

It was finally Thursday night, music night at Harper's Coffee. This was the first Thursday I had off in a while which meant I could order a cup of tea and enjoy the music with everyone else. I sat down with Maggie and Lisa while Oakley got us some drinks. Harry was performing tonight so I made sure to look my best. I always had a crush on Harry but I don't think he ever felt the same way. When he finally started liking me I was dating a guy named Caleb. He ended up being gay and most of my friends had a laugh with that one. Now I'm single and he has his eye on some freshman. Just my luck.

"Here you go ladies. A skinny latte for Maggie, a cappuccino for Lisa, and a honey hot tea for the lovely Ada."

"Thanks Oakley." The music began and we listened. Oakley and I got up a few times to dance. People stared but I wasn't sure if it was because we looked stupid or all the girls were wishing they got to dance with Oakley. Finally it was Harry's turn and he walked up the small stage with a guitar. I wasn't sure if he knew how to play guitar but hey, you learn something new everyday.

"Testing, testing 1, 2, 3." Everyone laughed as Harry joked with the mic. "Hi everybody, I'm Harry," this was his way of getting rid of his nerves. I don't know why he got nervous though, he was so good. "I have this guitar but I don't really know how to play it. I was hoping someone could help me out." He looked to the audience, quite seriously. Wait a minute! That was my guitar! My face was burning, did Liam give him my guitar? I searched for Liam and he smiled. That bastard. Harry scanned the audience, pretending he could barely see. Then he pointed to me, "Oh, you...Ada? Do you think you could help me?"

Everyone got quiet and I was officially bright red. I looked around, maybe there was another Ada.

"Ada?" He asked again.

"Go on!" Oakley pushed me lightly. "You're totally in love with him. Go make love...I mean music." I laughed as I stood up.

"Shut up Oakley." I walked to the front of the stage and took my guitar from his hand. "What are you doing?" I asked as my hands began to sweat. He ignored my question,

"Can you play You and Me by Lifehouse?" I smiled and nodded my head. Harry smiled and pulled a chair over for me to sit on. He doesn't like me, he likes a freshman. Calm down Ada. I looked up as the door opened. It was El and, and Niall. There is absolutely nothing to be nervous about Ada. Only your biggest crush in the world wants you to play guitar with him and the sexy, mysterious new boy just walked in.

"You okay?" I looked at Harry and smiled,

"Yeah. Whenever your ready." I looked into the audience and saw El wave to me. I then looked at Niall and he gave me a glare. It kinda scared me but I almost liked it. I shook everything off and looked at Harry to begin.

When the song was over Harry and I looked at each other with some sort of connection. I don't know what it was but I liked it. We walked towards our friends and it seemed our whole group was now present. El ran over and hugged me, "You were awesome!"

"Thanks! It was really Harry though. He has an amazing voice." I looked at him and his dimples grew. I loved his dimples.

"I wish I knew there was some sort of music festival! Niall is really good!" She turned to look at him and he just looked away. What was his deal? I ignored his attitude,

"It's every Thursday night you guys should come watch."

"That sounds like fun! Well anyway, I just wanted to come by and hand these out to everyone." El gave all my friends fliers to her worship group on Wednesday nights from seven to eight. I thought Oakley was going to have a cow when she gave one to him. I elbowed him in the gut, making sure he kept his mouth shut. Of course he went against my nudge and spoke as everyone dispersed,

"So El, what are you doing this weekend?" I rolled my eyes. "There's this party Friday night and I would love to have your company." She looked at him with the same smile she always had.

"Oh no thanks..."

"Oakley." I helped her out and chuckled,

"Oakley! I don't really go to parties. Well I'm going to get going Ada, see you guys at lunch!"

When she got walked out I busted out laughing. I patted Oakley on the back. "That was priceless my friend." He was speechless. That was the first time a girl had ever turned him down.

"I'm glad you think it's funny. You just wait, I'll get her." I giggled again and rolled my eyes.

"Okay, whatever you say big guy." All of our friends seemed to have left except for Harry and I was curious, why was he still here? "Oaks, Harry's still here." I whispered.

"I think he likes you."

"Not possible. He likes some freshman."

"Rumors. And why wouldn't he? Your gorgeous." I blushed sincerely this time. "If he asks you to go to the party with him are you going to go?"

"No way!" I responded quickly. I latched onto Oakley's arm, "You're the only man I'd ever consider!" We laughed, how did we have any friends?

Harry walked towards us and Oakley left before he could reach me. Oakley really wanted us to be a thing. I didn't know how I felt about this though. I mean, I always crushed on Harry, but now it was becoming real.

"Hey you were really great tonight. Thanks for helping me out."

"Well you didn't really give me an option." He ran his hand through his curly hair and looked at me with those emerald eyes. If eyes could kill I'd be dead.

"I guess not," he chuckled, "but I knew you wouldn't do it if I asked." That was true. I looked down. Was Harry Styles hitting on me? "Well I'm about to leave, do you need a ride?"

"No, that's okay." Why did I just turn him down? "I think I'm going to help Tom clean up a bit. It got rowdy when Kyle and Cindy got on stage." We both laughed and I was happy I had an actual excuse.

"Okay, well I'll see you at school and then the party?"

"Yeah, of course." Harry walked out and I hit my forehead. I just turned away Harry Styles. There were only a few guys that girls drooled over: Liam, Oakley, and Harry. Two of them were way off limits and Harry seemed interested in me. After Harry's car drove off into the night I walked outside and gasped.

"Oh, you scared me." I turned towards him and it was Niall. I thought he left earlier with El.

He laughed, "My bad." I couldn't tell how I felt about him. He was very mysterious and I rarely saw him in school. He was a senior so we didn't have any classes together but Liam was a senior and I saw him all the time. He kinda scared me. "So you play guitar." He said, rather than ask.

"Yup. Ever since I was little. Do you play?" I didn't want to be mean. He was Elisha's cousin and he really hadn't done anything to me--just a few glares.

"I know a few tunes."

"Where are you from?" I asked bluntly. "I mean, your accent is different." He looked at me, debating whether he wanted to answer me or not.

"Ireland."

"Did you just move here?"

"Why are you so nosy?" He wasn't very friendly. It was weird how he and El were related at all.

"I should really get going, it's late and we have school tomorrow." He stepped in front of me and I looked up at him. "Seriously, I need to go. My mom's going to be worried."

My phone began to ring, it was my mom. I held my phone up to his face, making sure he knew I wasn't lying. "See, I gotta go." I pushed passed him and ran home.
