The Wall Flower
Chapter Nine
-Carolines POV:
After some time had passed in the library, I had convinced Harry that I was okay and he should go home, but agreed to let him walk me home. I wasn’t surprised that he had been calling and texting me nonstop ever since.
I had realized that I needed to clear my head and did what I always did, dance. I had been dancing ever since I was little because my mother always said it made girls poised, but I shook my head as my feet stumbled again and couldn’t help to think how disappointed my mother would be at my poor and sloppy routine. After the music ended, I went to get a drink and caught my reflection in a mirror on the way. My bun was now sloppy and my mother’s voice rang through my head, “Caroline, fix your hair right now. Once people see you with your stray hairs, they’ll begin to think you’re sloppy which you most certainly are not,” she had said.
I fixed my hair, making sure to slick back the fly away hairs and laughed at how pathetic I was being as a few tears slid down my face. Suck it up, Caroline. I thought. Don’t be a baby. I missed my mom more than anyone would ever know, and after everything that had happened, I needed her more than ever.
Just as I began to feel sorry for myself, I heard the gym doors open and whipped my head to see who opened them.
“Laden? What are you doing here?” I asked.
“Hey, Carly,” he said just as Harry walked in after him. “Is it alright if we come in here to practice? It’s raining outside. We’ll only take half the gym, I promise.” He begged.
“Fine.” I huff, remembering how mother had always told us to always be selfless, especially to our siblings.
After catching my breath and running through my routine in my head; I restart my music and do my dance again. This time messing up even more than before and outwardly groan as my legs fail and I collapse on the gym floor.
“Caroline, are you okay?” Laden comes running over with Harry closely behind.
“Yes I’m fine,” I say trying to stand, but wince falling back on the floor and grab my right ankle.
“Go get some ice,” Harry says to Laden who nods, and comes closer examining my ankle. “You might have broken it.” Harry said after some examining.
“What?” I ask in disbelief.
“I’m just kidding; you probably just bruised the bone.” Harry said laughing while throwing me a wink, “want to try standing again?” He asks offering me his hands.
I nod and accept his hands, successfully standing and with his help, walk over to find Laden.
The walk to find him took longer than necessary and was filled with laughter and jokes between me and Harry. Finally reaching the trainer’s room to see what was taking Laden so long, we see him talking to Tori Taulhuse, a lax girl in his class, and let him have his space.
“Soo, Carrie, yano, I was thinking about something..” Harry said after helping me sit on the bench.
“Hmm?” I hummed in response.
“It’s just, my audition is tomorrow and I would really like it if you could come with me? I mean, my family will be coming but you’re the one who chose the song and I just-“
“Harry,” I say cutting him off while laughing, “I’d love to.” I respond smiling.
