The Wall Flower

Chapter Eight

Harry’s POV:

After I brought Jules home, my mom and Robin had left for diner with some friends, and Gemma had texted me saying she was going out with friends and that supper was in the oven. While I waited for it to finish cooking, I decided to call Carrie.

“Hello?” She said after hearing a door close muffling the voices around here, I figured she was busy.

“hey, am I interrupting anything?” I respond, hoping she’d say no.

“Not really, my dad decided to invite a lot of his friends over as a celebration for placing top 5, It’s boring anyways.. what’s up?” She said, surprising me that she wanted to talk to me.

“Well, as a thank you for helping me with my song, I was wondering if you’d like to come out to dinner with me tomorrow?” That’s not what I was planning on asking, but I guess it worked.

“Umm, I have to work until 6, but you can pick me up, I guess..” she responded shyly.

“Great, thanks again for your help, but I suppose I should let you get back to your party..”

“yeah, no problem, bye, Harry.” She hung up.

Carrie’s POV:

After my shift in the library, I ran to the employee bathroom to get changed, I had no idea where Harry was taking me, but I figured there weren’t any nice restaurants in Holmes Chapel, I decided a floral summer dress would suffice. I ran out of the bathroom to run into someone behind the desk.

“Can’t you read? The sign says we’re closed.” I snap at him.

“Do you think I’d be in a library if I couldn’t read?” He responded shortly.

“What are you doing here? I have to go.” I sigh as he turns around.

“No you don’t. listen here, Bitch, you’re going to tell Harry you can’t make this little ‘date’ of yours or whatever you want to call it, and you will never ever talk to him again, understand?” I don’t respond. “Thought so, if you’re really as smart as people say you are, you’d listen to me, wouldn’t want anything bad to happen.” And with that, William pours a red liquid drink down the front of my dress, looking satisfied, and leaves with a sharp cackle filling the empty room.

After William left, I sobbed for what seemed like hours until I heard the front door open, trying to stifle my cries I still let out staggered, uneven breaths and felt someone crouch down next to me.

Hiding my puffy face, my mother’s words ran through my head.
“Crying is for closed doors only. That way you don’t seem to be weak.” I turn away hiding my face from him, not wanting to be even more embarrassed of the given situation.

“Don’t shut me out like this, Caroline.” He says softly, after I don’t respond for a while he continues. “I’m really trying to make things up to you, can’t you at least give me a chance.” By now I had stopped crying, and even though I was certain my face was puffy and my make-up was a mess, I faced him ready to end it all for once.

“No.” I finally respond and his face shows a sign of hurt, but quickly replaces it with anger.

“And why is that.” He says through gritted teeth.

“Because I was being stupid, and childish, and hoping for a fairy tale when there wasn’t one there.” I offer,

“And what is that supposed to mean,” He says standing up.

“It means you should go, and never talk to me again,” I tell him blinking ferociously to hide the tears. Not now, I tell myself. Later.

“You don’t mean that, so tell me what you actually want to say, not what someone’s telling you to say. I saw William on his way home, I know he’s the one who ruined you dress, not me. I don’t hang out with them anymore so why are you pushing me away?” He says before sighing and crouching down in front of me and lifting up my chin so I’m forced to look at his beautiful green orbs.

“I’m scared.” Is all I can muster enough courage to say and hide my face in my knees before my body starts shaking vigorously from the cries leaving my body.

He places a delicate kiss on my head saying, “me too.” So quietly, I don’t think I was supposed to hear it.
