The Wall Flower
Chapter Eleven
----Harry’s POV:
I don’t think I’ve ever seen this many people, correction. I haven’t ever seen this many people, let alone sang in front of them. I shake. I visibly shake, and my dad places a strong hand on my shoulder. I know it’s too late to back out now and gain my composure. I can hear Carrie’s laugh at my sister and that’s enough to get me through. If Caroline can believe in me, than I know I have to believe in myself.
My name is called, and I don’t feel scared anymore. I hear everybody wish me luck and walk out on stage.
“Tell me about yourself.” Simon says showing no sign of emotion. I look at Carrie, she’s smiling. I turn back to him and remember her smiling face before answering him.
-----Carrie’s POV:
Harry is confident as always, as the words flow effortlessly off his tongue while answering Simon’s question; almost as if it was rehearsed. That’s one of Harry’s many qualities he possesses. He can talk to people like he’s known them for ages, laugh, joke around, and make them smile without even thinking about it.
As Harry sings the first note, I know every ounce of doubt I had was for no reason and let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding. I squeeze Gemma’s hand and we squeal like little school girls. That was by far Harry’s best performance, but I still feel nervous while waiting for the judges to talk.
I swear, I saw Simon smile, but when he looks at Harry, I’m not so sure I did. Him and Louis exchange a look.
“I’m so glad you gave us a chance to listen to you sing acapella. You have real talent and I think we could have a spot for a young man like you.” The female judge, who’s name I forgot, says.
“yeah,” Starts Louis, “It was a good performance, but I’m not sure it’s quite what we’re looking for.” He finishes, just as the crowd starts to boo. I look at Harry and see him laughing, but he keeps his mouth shut and for that, I’m thankful.
“I could not disagree more.” Simon says smiling again. Welcome to the X-Factor.
We all jump up and down, and welcome Harry as he comes off stage. I let his family hug him first, but don’t hesitate to go to his open arms right after Gemma releases him.
“I’m proud of ya’ kid.” I say with a smile and ruffle his hair.
////
I wait in my usual spot by Harry’s side as he, Niall, Zayn, Liam, and Louis wait to perform. The boys have made it to the final three, and currently wait backstage until they’re called to perform. I think of everything that’s happened since Harry’s audition. The most memorable time was boot camp, when Harry was cut as a solo artist, but formed a band with the 4 boys standing with him now. Together, they’ve made it to Simon’s house in Barbados, sang with Robbie Williams, and gained thousands of fans. If I’m being completely honest with myself, it really did bother me how much female attention Harry was getting. And it bothered me anymore how much he enjoyed it. Me and Harry weren’t dating, but over the past few months we’ve gotten really close, and I couldn’t stop the feeling that I was starting to develop for the curly haired boy whose best friends would bully me every day. Since the high school days, to say Harry has come a long ways would be an understatement. He no longer talks to Gina or Will or even Jules for that matter. He’s also gotten a job and has finally accepted that he isn’t a worthless coward who had to bully people to make friends. It scared me how much I trusted him, because I knew what he was capable of. I knew he had a short temper and was impatient in most situations, but it’s all worth it when you know how thoughtful and sweet he is.
I watch his chocolate mop of curly hair bounce as he walks on to stage, and his green eyes pierce mine through the monitor backstage. This week, the boys wouldn’t tell me what song they were singing and only gave me the hint that Harry had chosen the song. The crowd roars as they all make it on stage, but quiets down once the music starts. I gasp and clamp my hand over my mouth as Liam begins to sing.
*****FLASHBACK*****
Harry laughs at me as I hit repeat for the millionth time. No matter how many times I heard this song, I could never get enough of it.
“I think that’s enough” Harry says grabbing my ipod but still laughs making his dimples prominent.
“Nooo!” I beg, but laugh myself and push him off my bed after getting my ipod.
*****END OF FLASHABACK*****
That was 6th grade. Harry remembers my favorite song from six years ago and was willing to sing it for me on live television.
Liam’s solo ends and Harry sings the chorus, that I still have memorized from the summer and I listen intently.
“If I lay here, if I just lay here,
Would you lie with me and just forget the world.”
