My Broken Angel

Chapter 2 - I Lie

Normal POV:

Her boots whispered soft noises as she walked in the hallway. One Direction will be there in half an hour; the opening act is about to start with Ash and his duet partner, but she’s not here. She had called in sick, but the opening song is soon going to start and they have no one else. The concert was scheduled to start in about 5 minutes, but with the traffic, 1D would probably be a bit late. Well, isn’t this just the perfect opportunity for Dev? He’ll catch Tom’s attention if he happens to be here, and if he does, he won’t be stupid enough to make a move when everyone already knows who Dev is. That’s what she would do. Play hero and everyone else seem to be villains.

Hurrying, she began to run. This concert couldn’t be ruined. This was an operation she couldn’t afford to screw up. True, it was Fred’s idea at first, but after Dev’s outburst he had admitted it was a bad idea. He told and hinted to Dev not to do anything irrational. Considering she had also dragged Scott into this, she would be in big trouble if this failed. Scott and her had developed a plan just before entering the stadium. Corner Tom, and don’t let him escape. Knowing him, he won’t cause a scene. But then again, you never really know. That was a chance they were willing to risk.

What made it worse though, is there was a slight chance Dev might get hurt trying to corner Tom. So, this opening act would be perfect. Tom would probably not be expecting Dev here, so when she ends up being the opening act, he will be caught off guard, giving Scott a chance to attack. Dev just wanted to end Tom, but the fact that he was in a 1D concert had surprised Dev. She had gotten a hold the information of the operation Fred had thought of then thrown away after Dev’s outburst. That included the address of the concert, but it wasn’t stated it was a One Direction concert. Dev was sure Fred also had no idea. There had to be a reason Tom chose to come to this concert, and all Dev wanted to know was how Fred knew the address, and why Tom chose this concert. However, she had bigger things to worry about. Such as killing Tom. Without getting caught. That was probably inevitable though, considering whatever name she told the audience, her face would be spread around the magazines, and Fred would somehow find out. That was also a risk Dev was willing to take if it meant being able to kill Tom. If she were not successful, the mission would have the complete opposite effect.

Dev was also worried about one more thing. The crowd. She wasn’t nervous, but scared. When she first entered this ‘mafia-like’ world, she swore to herself to never hurt someone innocent, and never let someone innocent be hurt. All she could do was hope Tom didn’t know that so he wouldn’t use it against her.

The receiver beeped, signaling Scott was trying to reach her. She pressed the button on the Bluetooth, and heard his voice flow through her ears.

“Did you find the Ash guy yet?”

She was silent, so Scott continued, “I’m guessing no, then? Well, it is a pretty big stadium,”

“Well, where would you go if you’re supposed to be on stage in like 3 minutes and your partner isn’t going to arrive?” she asked.

“You mean where would I go to freak out about the situation?” he snarled back as she rolled her eyes.

Suddenly, they grew wide, “Backstage door. That’s where I’d go. I’d be there; hanging on to the last hope my partner hasn’t completely bailed on me and they’d decide they could still perform with a bit of a fever.”

Before Scott could reply however, she turned the Bluetooth off, turning around and running to the opposite side of the hallway where she would be able to reach the backstage door.

There Ash stood, running his fingers through his hair, but soon, a golden voice rang in his ears. He had never heard it before but he could already tell it had massive potential.

“Thank goodness I found you,” she panted.

No matter how beautiful the voice was though, Ash ignored her, having no idea what she was talking about.

“I’ll be it, I’ll be your partner. I’m not looking for fame or anything; I just want to save this concert. And you can’t deny my voice is pretty awesome. I’m all ready, so can we do this?”

This caught Ash’s attention. Partner, huh? This wasn’t usually acceptable, but you could just tell she was one of a kind – in a good way.

He sighed and pulled out his final song draft and music notes, giving it to her, having given up on his old partner.

“This might be a lot to take in so fast, but I have faith you can do it for some reason. I’ll be waiting near the stage entrance.” He patted her back, then stopped, turning around, looking her in the eye.

“By the way,” he asked, “What’s your name?”

They gazed into each others eyes and Dev almost smirked at the fact that she had been asked this so many times, and almost every time she had to lie, just like this time.

“Cecile,” she smiled, “Cecile De Leon”
