Chapter 9

As the warm morning light streamed through the sheer hotel curtains, I felt I was truly happy. Liam Payne, my boyfriend, was next to me, still asleep and breathing softly.

Then my heart sank. To any other girl, having two guys from One Direction is a dream come true, but for me it was a problem. I didn’t want to hurt anyone or start a fight.

After my confrontation with Harry last night, I was left feeling anxious and frantically wondering what to do.

It was silent inside the penthouse – everybody was probably still asleep.

I heard the sound of light footsteps on the wooden floor. “Hey Haylee, are you awake?” someone whispered from behind me. I rolled over and saw Niall standing awkwardly in the doorway, his face lighting up when he saw me. A little confused, I sat up and asked “Niall, what do you want?”

“Well at the moment you are the only girl here… and I’m hungry… so could you please make me breakfast? Maybe bacon and eggs? Please?”

“Of course, Niall” I giggled.

I dragged myself out of bed and followed Niall into the kitchen where he sat down on the sofa and started watching a game of soccer on the TV.

Liam was still asleep, but Louis sure wasn’t – I heard him before I saw him. He was complaining loudly about how clean and perfect hotel rooms usually are. “I mean, I just don’t understand why they do origami with the toilet paper!” he finished saying. “Oh hi, Haylee” he said when he saw me. “So you did stay the night. Did you and Liam... get up to much?” he said with a deliberate meaning. Niall turned his head around and gave me a cheeky smirk, then turned back to the TV. “No, not really”, I lied.

“Yum that smells delicious” said a familiar but daunting voice. Harry stepped into the kitchen and gave me a wink when nobody was looking.

“Niall made me make it” I said and couldn’t help but smile. “Hey, do you guys have a show tonight?” I asked the three of them.

“Nah, we have one more tomorrow night, then we leave for Sydney on Tuesday,” Zayn answered, still wearing his clothes from yesterday, as he joined the boys watching TV.

“So what are you going to do today then?” I continued. “Probably just hang out here – there are too many fans and cameras outside to do anything” Harry replied smugly.

“Damn” I muttered under my breath. I wanted to take Liam out to my favourite area in Adelaide – just me and him alone.

I slid the bacon out of the frypan onto a plate and started to crack some eggs. “Hello, beautiful”, Liam said with his hot breath on my neck, sending shivers down my spine. He stood behind me and put his arms around my waist. “I like mine sunny side up” he whispered into my ear and proceeded to kiss me on the cheek. “Liam, these are for Niall!” I pulled myself out of his grip and turned to face the boys. “Guys – I am not making food for you! I’m not a chef,” I yelled jokingly.

“Actually, babe, you are” Liam chuckled. Damn, he was right – well, only a little; I worked at a café down the road from my house and my job was to make food and coffee for people.

“Shit!” I yelled; I had just remembered I was supposed to be working. “I have to go to work!” I blurted out. After my strange night, I had only just started to come back down to earth. Louis and Zayn turned their heads and started to burst out with laughter. “What about my food?” Niall asked seriously.

“Ok, babe, I’ll get a car ready and take you home to get changed, then drop you off” Liam said calmly.

“Thank you so much,” I said with relief. I gave him a quick kiss and ran into his bedroom to get my phone and shoes, as he went to talk to someone.

On the way out of the room, I was interrupted by Harry, standing in front of me with his hands on either side of the doorframe.

“What?” I asked impatiently.

“So I can see you haven’t changed your mind yet” he stated darkly.
“No, I told you; I really like him and he is my boyfriend” I replied, emphasising the last word.
“So you don’t like me?” he said with his husky voice.

I started to push past him to dodge the question, when all of a sudden he placed his hands on my face and touched his lips to mine.
